  1. I'll get hypothermia and freeze to death on my couch watching Netflix on my phone before I'll take any welfare electricity from some queer blue state.
  2. I spent years at a past job trying to sell South Texas Project some software while they strung me along and never bought, so this hits close to home.
  3. Is that stuff fully water repellent? Building a covered pergola as my next project. I want to weatherproof it with some sort of roof. Been looking both at metal and fabric options
  4. Hopefully the dude with the 4WD vehicle didn't wear her out
  5. This has definitely been a good opportunity to assess our emergency preparedness. Lessons learned. By next winter I'll definitely have all outdoor spigots wrapped in heat tape, and I'll make sure to keep at least a half cord of wood stacked up through the winter. Will probably figure out better solutions to keep the well pump and softener (garage) heated. My band aids are working this time but they're a little ghetto.
  6. Surely you've got some kind of device that will tell you when power is back on. Smart thermostat would do it.
  7. Do you have power? Once the sun came out and my house was able to get to a decent temperature, my issues (that were identical to yours) fixed themselves. Water flowing properly everywhere inside. I haven't checked the outdoor spigots, I'm in full blown Jesus take the wheel mode on those. As far as I can tell no exploded pipes. Guess I'm lucky to have PEX lines. Probably going to go through the same shit tonight though. I think I am going to run all of my faucets with a reasonable flow. Well water is cheap (cost of electricity to run the pump), and it will also keep water moving from underground through my whole system which is good.
  8. I've actually been turning my heat up a degree every time a new Surly member loses power on this thread. It's a nice balmy 94 in here.
  9. @phdhorn and @Eastwood's avatars confused the hell out of me. I thought the same person responded twice with all the quotes.
  10. Stupid question amnesty. We closed all of our blinds/drapes last night. With the sun out, should we open them up to pull some heat in, or is the air outside still so cold that it'll be counterproductive?
  11. Wonder how they choose who gets to be the icicle sacrifice. My neighborhood has two sides, one is more subdivisiony and one is more rural with big lots. Subdivision had power cut most of the night. My side has had power on the entire time. I'm hoping someone important in New Braunfels lives in one of those multi-million dollar houses on the Guadalupe on my side of the hood and is using some influence on the power company.
  12. My two year old kept yelling that he wanted to go out there. We made it long enough to take a pic and throw a couple snowballs before he was running back inside. Should have made him shovel some snow for an hour to build some character.
  13. No power loss out in NB, although areas of my neighborhood are saying they had some rolling outages overnight. Outdoor spigots are both frozen. Tried thawing them out but it's not going to happen. Everything inside is fine except one hot water supply line in a bathroom. We have PEX, so hopefully it holds. So far my well pump is working fine. Glad I got the space heater out in the well house, because I'm seeing some people start to report their well pumps or lines frozen up.
  14. Don't have that. I do have a weed burner.
  15. I actually wrapped this one with a pool noodle and foil and had a cooler over it with a light bulb. Still wasn't enough. Too late to drip it now. Anyone know if I open up my other outdoor faucets to drip, will that take pressure out of the system?
  16. That makes more sense. Thanks. The sheriff did say that sand trucks were "supposed to be coming" but that he was on hour 3 of being told that with no sand truck.
  17. I have a frozen outdoor spigot that runs underground from the house to a foot high spigot about 30 feet from the house. Is my house going to explode?
  18. Saw a couple on 46. Everything after that mess was well sanded and decent (but slow) driving. I'm not sure a sand truck would clear that hill. Which is the scary part in terms of people ending up stuck out there with nothing in sight and no solution. The sheriff was pretty shaken up. He was in the same boat as everyone else. Really nice guy. The best bad plan to be had if you ended up stuck there was a 3.2 mile walk to the Hampton Inn in Bulverde.
  19. Just drove home from San Antonio. Horrific three hour drive. 281 was a shit show. No salt or sand. There was one hill near Bulverde that a bunch of people got stuck on. You can see the vehicles that tried and failed. Sheriff said he was basically stuck there with no timeline on help, sand, etc. Nothing anywhere nearby. No way to turn around. Only 4WD trucks and one random lady in a Volkswagen got through it. You had to go up the median to the top. I really hope some help showed up. It was dangerous and cold out there and it's only going to get worse for them if people start running out of gas. I hugged my truck when I got home. Not literally, but it saved my ass from my own terrible decision making today. Good truck. It was getting worse with more and more cars by the time I got over the hill. Every car in this pic was stopped. This was before the trucks decided to try using the median to get up the hill and some of us managed to clear out.
  20. I'll take Splitter being underrated to the grave. I know his signature play was getting packed by LeBron, but we missed him when he left. I'm with you though, Poeltl is a hell of a player.
  21. Late to this party, just watching on DVR. Got damn. The deals we got turtle and DJ on are absolute home runs. Jakob is so much like Splitter it's uncanny. Kinda soft on offense but drastically underappreciated by most fans. DJ only has one tool left to find before he's a superstar, which is consistency. Everything else is there. He's so good. Trade LA or send him to the G league. Extend Demar. We're making the playoffs.
  22. Wondering the same. They don't have the same problems a lot of regular season posers (aka the Suns' entire existence) have in the past. They're not getting a lot of respect from Vegas, still +1400. Worse than actual regular season posers like Philly. Seems like a value bet to me. I think I just talked myself into throwing some money on them.
