  1. Long form video interview of Platner for the Times. Mainly like what I hear from him. I’m not a big fan that he touches on being in a dark place within the last 5-8 years. After watching I can’t recall his exact timeline of how he dealt with anger and substance abuse in the 2010s to early 2020s. That wasn’t long ago. Still if I was a Maine voter, I would crawl through broken glass to vote for him over Collins.
  2. It would seem that the easiest place for the fence to be constructed is across the lajitas golf course. His golfers can cross through a border patrol check point and gate for the back nine. Just bring your passport for ID.
  3. While I'm not surprised by this much of an approval change, WTF. How in the world could people be so blinded just ~18 months ago. Or who knows. Then again if the election was run again tomorrow, they still might not vote for the woman candidate.
  4. From what I can tell, no one from the federal govt and especially our senators and DHS will publicly talk about the Big Bend wall. Any one in Texas, including Cruz and Cornyn, know that Texans would be against so for them its better to ignore it. Its difficult to protest something when no one will stand up to say that it's actually happening.
  5. Between Revenge of the Nerds, Bloodsport and 1st & Ten, Gibb was a HBO staple in the 80s. "Anytime, any place, anywhere. If you ever need me, I'll be there." I always wondered how "stars" like Gibb who have semi famous but limited roles could make a long term living. Now I know many of them travel the comic con or fan con circuit. Even famous and well paid actors do this now.
  6. Watch Brewster (Alpine, Marathon, Terlingua) and Jeff Davis (Fort Davis) counties still vote GOP this November. "I'm not happy but I can't go for the communist lib'rul candidate." They were ~15% in favor of Trump in 2024. Presidio county (Marfa) was blue in 2024 so I imagine they won't flip red. Note: Only Travis county went stronger with Kamala than Presidio.
  7. The next Dem president will need to start asset confiscation of the Trump family. And tell any judge or justice that regardless of their ruling, the US govt is NOT returning it. Basically hand the judge the Lebowski meme "well, you know like that's just your opinion man" in the pretrial paperwork. And some or all of these pardons should be viewed as void. Put the pardoned criminals back in prison until there is a future GOP president who agrees to let them out. For the pardons that were effectively financial penalties only, put the pardonee in prison until they agree to pay. And for foreign pardons, our special forces may need training in extracting persons of interest in foreign, friendly or otherwise, countries. Could there be longer term democratic or legal consequences? Sure, but Trump and his crime family can't get away with these crimes. Besides removal of the pardons will give incentives to some flipping on Trump. "I paid $25m for that pardon." I would even build out a RICO case that anyone who bribed the expanded Trump family is guilty of any crime of Trump, even if Trump himself is not guilty due to being President.
  8. Maybe everyone isn't as politically aware as you.
  9. I wasn't implying that he wants to run, or that he would. Bluffing is free.
  10. We need Obama to hint that if Trump mentions running again, he [Obama] will think of a third term as well.
  11. when I see videos of these soldiers running from a drone, I only imagine the PTSD that any survivors will suffer from. especially as drones become more and more common place in civilian life. It would be like being home from Vietnam and never knowing when a Viet Cong soldier walks around the corner. EDIT: And you don't even have to be a soldier to eventually be afraid of these things. the clock is ticking on when we see an assassination here in the US. Maybe not a president will protections they have, but only a select few people would have that.
  12. You know that when this was put up, the ad agency had already lined up social or traditional media to post about this "controversial" ad. No one would see this ad in person and call this company to hire them. but get a million people talking about it online, and their website will be searched.
  13. $600? With land, are we talking $3.5m to buy new/build?
  14. Yes, many lawyers would avoid a Trump appointment, but there's enough of them who will see it as a badge of honor. Maybe a future law firm will know to highlight their partner was a US attorney but conveniently avoid displaying the dates. but for the right clients, they will brag about his US Attorney status and ask him to share Trump stories.
  15. This level of pricing will revive the Midwest coffee growers. Duh.
  16. Powell and company performed a masterful job of maneuvering around an unprecedented global crisis, and the US performed better than any other top economy. Is it possible that Powell got lucky, maybe but so what.
  17. I imagine there is a long, long line of attorneys who will sell their soul to have US Attorney on their resume even if they can only keep the job so long without a confirmation.
  18. Dems need to find the freeways with the worst traffic between a city and suburbs, and drop this quote on a billboard. It won't turn MAGA liberal but it will create dissatisfied republican voters, even if only to keep them home on election day. If every car dealer and medical practice can afford billboards, why can't democrats.
  19. After reading stories like that, I'm perfectly content if the Dems started (continued?) spending money on bots that sow chaos in republican online circles. Have bots lie and argue with each other on these platforms. How can we create an army of Surly bots to spend all day on conservative websites? I'm willing to throw in some contributions for AI token usage. (just kidding. maybe)
  20. FDA leader resigned/fired today. One reason due to his reluctance in allowing flavored e-cigarettes. In unrelated news, tobacco stocks up big today. We're going down the same path as Trump 1 where more and more agencies are led by acting secretaries/administrators/whatever title, to avoid having to get senate confirmation. I believe we're already on our 3rd acting administrator of FEMA.
  21. Thanks. Also if someone wants to get into this hobby, what are some good entry level 4K players? To me, audio is more important and I don't mean in terms of cranking it up to shake the house.
  22. To me, here are the best choices for Texans for November. Talarico Cornyn ... Paxton Cornyn is a toad but there's at least some chance that he would oppose Trump from behind the scenes a bit since a 2026 win would give Cornyn cover for another 6 years. I don't think Cornyn is brave enough to oppose Trump directly or vote against Trump but Paxton will front run anything that Trump may want especially given that he probably wants a blanket pardon from Trump at some point. And for any Democrat or independent that thinks that Talarico is another Fetterman or Sinema, he very well may have a non-progressive stance or two but so what. Cornyn and Paxton are 100% in that camp.
  23. I have to believe that people get the most selfish as a group in their 50s. They have worked hard, or so they believe, and they're afraid of having anything taken from them given there is little time to earn it back. They also can get very offended if they assume others are getting something for free when they are not. Now there are some ultra selfish people older than 60, but they're just miserable. Many older folks realize to let some things go because it doesn't matter. They can't take it with them.
  24. Do newer "TV" shows exist on 4K media with high end audio options, like Dolby Atmos? I find that the best entertainment these days are serialized and not movies. I worry that the streaming services don't want to release high quality versions as gatekeeping the content since their original programming is their biggest asset.
  25. yeah. I've seen a few couples around 30, owning their first home they purchased for >$1m. Hats off to them for the ability to buy that high at that age. I have to guess that at least some of them would struggle to make that mortgage, texas property tax bill if their income had any gaps.
