  1. One of Milchicks roles as asst mgr was to take them into the break room. Which was a good name since it was about breaking them down after they misbehaved. Will that be Ms Huang’s job now, or is the new Lumon not into that behavior now? on the question on how would Helena be taught everyone and everything, the place was crawling with cameras and microphones. In the cartoon, we saw how lumon had recorded basically everything they said or did. As for her being able to perform the macro data refinement, who knows since we don’t understand it. This is a show that is unlikely to answer every mystery.
  2. I feel like Sonos is missing out on the old crowd by selling them on the idea that their sound bars can create clearer vocals for TV shows. Many buy a nice TV then cheap out on a sound bar that is just loud. And while some complain that Sonos doesn’t provide enough HDMI connectors on some of their devices, it makes them less complicated.
  3. For at least the US, college educated women are becoming a larger percentage of high earners so they don’t need to marry to have a great life, financially speaking. Many do want a spouse/children but there is a problem with that due to a combination of their unrealistic expectations of men and many men failing to meet lower, reasonable expectations. Add other elements like becoming used to staying home with COVID and declining alcohol rates, and I bet a fair number of younger people don’t even go out at night much to meet others. At least in comparison to what us old folks did in the 80s-00s. as for declining rates in the rest of the world, no idea.
  4. Forecasts looks to have shifted the colder temps a little sooner in Houston and bumped the low temps up a few degrees. I have a healthy fear of frozen water pipes. What are the downsides of just turning off the water to my house, at the meter, for 36-48 hours during the extreme lows? I can have water stored for drinking, washing and the toilet. I assume some remaining water in the pipes could still freeze but could that still burst the pipe? and in some unexpected case of absolutely needing a hot shower, I could turn the water back on. I live alone so there wouldn’t be anyone in my ear complaining about the lack of running water.
  5. Uecker gone, and Vitale and Corso not doing well. Unique job that often keeps them on their jobs, to some extent, until the very end.
  6. I was a fan of Biden’s but the last year or two of his presidency was not good. And that debate sealed the opinion of every voter. It would have been better if he had immediately thrown up on the podium and they postponed it. His handlers should have realized over a year ago that he was not up for a campaign. and while I don’t blame him for pardoning Hunter, he never should have promised that he wouldn’t pardon him. I don’t care if trump lies more before 8am every day, we don’t lie like that. The Hunter pardon doesn’t impact the US but it impacts my opinion of Biden. i voted for Biden and then Harris but im glad that we’re on the last day of Biden. edit: it would even have been more acceptable if Hunter had been sentenced and Biden commuted the sentence after the no-pardon promise. At least it would give Biden supporters more cover. Instead Biden told his supporters to f-off.
  7. I do my best to give as few tax dollars to Texas as possible. I actually believe I spend less in state sales tax in 2024 than I did in 2000. I’m too much of a miser/investor now. Unfortunately my property tax has skyrocketed over that time but at least most of that stays in Harris county.
  8. What’s also confusing, in an entertaining way, is that we only saw the inside-Lumen view in this episode. milchick, aka milkshake, provided some info but it’s all suspect. We don’t know it’s 5 months later, or that the 4 became the face of the anti-severed movement. The fact that they’re back in Lumen tells me that everything milchick said was a lie.
  9. Biden sucked at communication most likely because his staff knew he couldn’t handle it. I’ve learned in the business world that it doesn’t matter how great of a job you do if you can’t communicate how good of a job you’re doing. on top of that, Biden waited too late to address inflation and I guess his argument was that he was saving us from a pandemic. But then again he refused to talk.
  10. Perhaps the deal is that the US Attorney will be out of a job on Monday and he wanted to wrap up some cases.
  11. Didn't the 27th amendment take 200+ years to be ratified by the states. This is the congress compensation amendment. The first state ratified it in 1789 and the 38th state in 1992. It's recognized as an official amendment from the US govt. For those who do not know, a 1982 UT student restarted the process to get this amendment passed in the last few remaining states. Nice bit of trivia there.
  12. The latest starship explosion shows why you can’t give Elon control of the govt. he’s perfectly ok blowing shit up if he learns from it. “maybe that latest economic decision blew up the retail industry but we’ll do better with the next decisions about oil and gas because we’re better informed now”
  13. Correct me if I’m wrong but Mark and Irv never told anyone that they were their innie version, correct?
  14. Yes, CEOs always tell the truth about how layoffs will be run.
  15. I think it’s more that crypto decided to get behind Trump and tell him that he’s the best. In turn, he will help them out.
  16. The propaganda from unknown sources apparently worked.
  17. I foresee that when walking through a crowded airport, or wherever, smart glasses can alert you to your college buddy sitting in the bar that you just passed. Or remind you that you might want to eat in the airport before getting on the plane. Then Meta or Google receives a commission from the restaurant. Think the Minority Report world minus the pre-crime aspect.
  18. Gotta love when one of your stocks unexpectedly drops a 5.7% extra dividend payment in your account.
  19. Sounds like we’re using similar strategies. I hate tobacco with a passion but happy to own their dividend stocks. I grew up watching my parents smoke constantly, and that was what I smelled like. I figure the universe owes me those dividends today guilt-free. find me a solid, consistent revenue stock that pays out a 4-5% yield, and I will accept that boring money all day.
  20. I don’t see how AI won’t be anything but huge for Meta. Obviously it’s a gigantic capital cost upfront but it will pay off. Start getting users conditioned to typing/talking with AI and Meta will began to learn even more about them and their current state of mind. Then you can pinpoint more relevant ads to them with a higher sales conversion. That will be valuable. Turns into a money printing flywheel. im in healthcare and advertising in Meta is considered fairly weak. It can help with awareness but we and Meta really have limited ability to know when the user needs healthcare today to throw advertising at them. I could see AI helping to recognize what’s going on in that household. $-maker.
  21. From the comments looks like it’s about 20:1 ratio of disapproval with Bill McCartney. I had a boss who went to one of the Promise Keepers stadium events and had one of their books on his desk. This was maybe ‘98. Nice guy. I hope he’s moved on from them.
  22. Would love to see the DOJ sue Abbott for not following federal law regarding flag etiquette. And take the case the trumpiest federal judge in Texas who will tell Abbott to follow federal law.
  23. Golf is a sport?
  24. I've heard some bad reviews that they're jumping around too much with the characters like with Game of Thrones, except they're not Game of Thrones. I'm praising GoT while they still had source material not the ending.
  25. Zuckerberg is about to make billions more with Meta. Eliminate jobs via killing moderation and moving jobs to lower costs states. And he's going to put more and more AI on their apps. Their income will go up whiles costs go down. Wall St. will reward that with a doubling of the stock price. I own tobacco stocks but I refuse to own Facebook, not counting their inclusion in index funds that I can't stop.
