  1. Im single so mine is different. And I was quick on my $333 quote, it’s actually double that since I forgot the quoted amount is per paycheck. Its the employees+family portion only.
  2. Insurance is $1.5k per month in premiums? I just checked any my employer has it at $333 with a $500 annual deductible.
  3. I’m in this camp. $8K/yr for someone to stay alive is acceptable to me. People are dropping more than that to drive new pickup trucks. Why are we pissed when life saving care costs that much but we’re cool about “regular” vehicles quickly being north of $70K? Funny how you never see someone complaining about their high car payment that they just signed up for 84 months.
  4. For a male, binge episode is 5 standard drinks or more. If you're drinking this much, the average doesn't matter because it's harmful drinking. If it's 4 or less per day, you can average that out over week. If you're at or under 14 and you have no binges, this is considered moderate drinking. 14 drinks a week all the way to 1 drink a month is moderate drinking for men (7 for the ladies). The CDC may say that 14 drinks per week is moderate, and therefore not harmful, but that definition is also there to support the alcohol industry. I grew up thinking it was normal for parents to have several drinks every night but later learned it’s uncommon. With 14 drinks someone is in the top 20% of drinkers not at the middle as implied by the word moderate. and no judgement I was a previously heavy drinker on weekends.
  5. One word of warning for anyone who changes jobs frequently. The switch might be needed or worthwhile but you frequently lose out on any retirement matching because you’re not fully vested yet. It needs to be considered with the overall decision.
  6. That's how it is for me. 3 drinks, especially later in the night, and I barely sleep. Maybe I'm technically asleep for a few hours but I feel like it was close to zero hours and I'm functionally at half speed the next day. And in terms of the original post about drinks and health (cancer), I'm fairly certain that poor sleep is bad for your health. For those that can handle more drinks, no judgement. I used to be able to but not anymore.
  7. My drinking level is so low these days and hangovers are so bad, I couldn't imagine the hangover with 10 drinks. Much less if I followed that up with a day of 10 more. A friend of a friend was mentioning how he normally went through a case of beer per night. That can't be good for you.
  8. not sure if serious. You're stuck on dividing your total weekend drinks by 7?
  9. 2014 analysis of drinking. Crazy how much the highest 20% of people make up of the total drinking. You have to assume that the health problems are mainly with them.
  10. Im not saying that the filing of a lawsuit indicates how it will end, but at least one lawsuit has been filed against PayPal for this.
  11. You might want to check to see if any of your banks can display your credit score whenever you log onto your web portal. I see that via Chase. Regardless it’s good to check the full reports once per year. IMO.
  12. Different people read a situation differently. Failing to cooperate with the authorities is not a sign of guilt. As others have posted here, Richard Jewel is the perfect example why your interactions with law enforcement need to involve a lawyer.
  13. I can see that a mosque advises their members to have legal representation when talking to the FBI. I would do the same. The FBI would not be interviewing you to find out what you knew about the terrorists, they would be interviewing you to see if you’re also a terrorist. This is the sole purpose of an investigation into someone who is already dead.
  14. Is this video some type of resume or dating profile? My bet is that this guy was unsuccessful in life which led him to be self radicalized.
  15. Say that @immamac had an affiliate link here for NordVPN and he would receive a decent referral bonus for anyone who clicked a link to NordVPN and purchased a subscription. Then as the customer is finalizing their purchase, the Honey extension flips the referral affiliate code to themselves. Honey and perhaps NordVPN conspired to limit @immamac’s revenue when he linked customers to NordVPN site. He operated in good faith in fulfilling his side of the transaction and perhaps lost out in a $25 commission. Multiply this scenario with thousands of referring websites and millions of affiliate link purchases. I’m not a lawyer but I would think there are some very smart lawyers who would see a liability in the billions for PayPal. PayPal’s stock price and reputation would suffer from some suits against them.
  16. Update my will max out retirement contributions including an after-tax additional option Add more to my “emergency” expense account. In retirement I want to be aggressive with my stock portfolio so I need a multi year cash position for down years. put 5k away for my next vehicle down payment Diligent about excess funds going into my brokerage account.
  17. This was my house’s tv schedule for Sunday night in the late 70s. 6:00 PM: 60 Minutes 7:00 PM: All in the Family/Archie Bunker's Place 7:30 PM: One Day at a Time 8:00 PM: Alice 8:30 PM: The Jeffersons 9:00 PM: Trapper John, M.D Given this was 45-50 years ago, I can’t imagine many main actors are still with us. Flo, Gregory Harrison, rob reiner and Sally Struthers must the older casts that haven’t made these threads. And many of the then <21 cast. Tommy from Alice being an exception. And I’m only counting cast that were there for the majority of the early seasons. Not the ones who pop in for seasons 9-10.
  18. I wouldn’t but I bet 25% of America would in a heartbeat.
  19. Impossible to find Americans that will take those jobs?
  20. MAGA will realize that bringing in very different groups will often lead to fights. I’m unsure if the white, 40k/yr, blue collar worker is going to have much sympathy for an unemployed, white software engineer who is used to $200k and working from home. people are quick to point to others as being lazy but won’t puts themselves in that category.
  21. So delicious watching MAGA meltdown over the Elon H1B debate. You can tell that so many are conflicted in arguing that we need to allow companies to pay foreign workers less at the expense of Americans. It goes against their core beliefs and their heads are spinning. its a great topic to bring up with maga acquaintances.
  22. It would be interesting policy to require employers to pay for 40 hours of week regardless of what the worker actually works. Obviously the outcome would be the employee working the 40 since you’re already paying them for 40. And if you the employer only needs someone for 10 hours, then just pay another worker overtime. it could end up leaving some people with no work so that impact would need to be addressed.
  23. Gen X here who has seen a wide range of industries and employers throughout my career. I definitely have had bosses who demand too much and some who demand very little of their team. There is more attention to life balance today than in the 90s but I don't see a lowering of intelligence. I also find very dedicated employees in their 20s today. Sure a 20-something is never dedicated to a employer for life but they know that occurs in the opposite direction as well.
  24. Dems should be fighting for only 1 minimum wage change in any state or federal: tying the current minimum to the same cost of living adjustment as social security benefits. And I don't mean a separate law but change the social security law. Of course we need to wait until the GOP is out of power for this. Yes it is too late and low BUT it would have huge impacts when the GOP refuses to raise it for decade+. This also wouldn't prevent periodic additional adjustments.
