  1. Is it just me or are there too many businesses that now include clauses with contracted stakeholders forbidding public complaints?
  2. Had an invasive weed in the middle of some st. augustine. Roundup killed the grass + weeds. Weeds sprouted back up but the grass didn't.
  3. When you get a 1,500% discount, do you get paid for your prescriptions?
  4. RFK Jr. looks to be targeting everything that he said he wouldn’t during his confirmations. Crazy that lying means absolutely nothing in DC. then again Trump was not going to follow Project 2025 and that is the exact playbook
  5. Experts only talk about the potential of the 51% attack (see above) or if quantum computing breaks the cryptography. Of course if that happens then most passwords, across all systems, will also be hackable. Just as there is research for quantum computing, this is other research to prevent this from happening. Most likely both by groups that share info and this will not be a problem. Crypto users are susceptible to being personally hacked, giving up their passcodes, or just losing their passwords and recovery codes. The average person could not be trusted to self-custody their codes, and as the saying goes half of the people are dumber than the average person. And if you add AI to the mix, hackers don't need to worry about hacking the blockchain, they can target the weakest link: people.
  6. Keep drinking that Tang. today I learned that NASA claims that Tang or orange drink is still used on the space station.
  7. Yep. The younger baby boomer and older genx still recall the reverence given the space program as we were young kids. While I was alive for all but the first moonwalk, sadly I have zero recollection of seeing any moon landings live. My parents have said I did see them. I do recall the joint Apollo-Soyuz mission. in hindsight we should, have placed a base on the moon to encourage a constant crew. I think now of the ISS, I believe it’s survived because of the sunk cost of the original investments. No president wanted to be the one who saw it completed just to bring it down.
  8. My current vehicle carried a $700 payment over 4 years and that felt outrageous. Couldn’t imagine a 4 figure payment, most likely for 72 or 84 months.
  9. The news about Lovell made me look up which of the moon walkers are still alive. I know Lovell wasn’t one of them. Only 4 of the 12 are still with us. the youngest being 89. Aldrin, Scott, Duke and Schmitt. It would have been cool to meet one of them.
  10. Maybe there are similar videos of Dems taking credit for local benefits they voted against but I only see this with republicans. I understand they all vote against these large bills on a party line. There are 100s if not 1000s of line items many of which 100% of people agree with, but taking credit for it demonstrates their dishonesty. And then refusing to explain that and immediately calling the reporter a leftist for asking questions about their voting history.
  11. I’ve asked his text messages to stop 4 times now, and I still receive them. I’m a Democrat but I’m looking forward to voting against him just for this.
  12. When someone says there's nothing to do in Houston, I'm always curious what they want. I roll my eyes if their complaint has something to do with unchangeable factors (heat, world class beach, lake, or mountains/snow.) One complaint that I have is most likely in other cities as well: secondary market pricing for concerts. Bigger names should book multiple nights when they're playing a <20K arena in a metro of 7m. I understand not booking NRG for multiple nights but Toyota or other arenas are different. I don't mind spending more than face but damn $300 per ticket for events especially if it appeals to the 40+ crowd. Not that I spend that much time outside in the summer, but I don't experience any mosquito issues in central Houston. Or maybe I just grew up on the Texas coast where the county pumped deadly insecticides all summer to make it bearable outside. Perhaps I measure today vs that.
  13. Trump has the taste of Richie Rich. Remember that this is how he decorated his NYC home, even down to having a odd murals on the ceiling. Look at all of this gold that demonstrates how successful I am.
  14. Just my 2 cents but that is a poor employer behavior in treating their employees that way. Do you work for a smaller company perhaps with a single owner? my opinion is that an employer, who does something like this, gets even worse performance out of their folks.
  15. Canada tariffs will go up to 500% if they allow Texas Dems.
  16. Appears that the federal govt has interns from 4chan in charge of their social media channels. Personally I would be embarrassed if my employer's posts had this vibe. Then again maybe that part of the goal, to embarrass professionals in govt to get them to quit. It's only a matter of time before one of them drop the n-word in a post. It will be described a regrettable error but zero apologies will be given.
  17. Comparing downtown Austin and downtown Houston for social activities would be like if I compared professional sports in Austin and Houston. No one is claiming that downtown Houston is better and that has never been a goal. Not to mention that this is Texas and Houston. Private businesses have the right to pretty much do what they want without interference.
  18. This guy has one personal scandal after another. Even if one or two is exaggerated, you don't have this much chaos without some fundamental issues. He's thought to be lying about ownership of companies that sell to the US govt, along domestic assaults and now this revenge porn story. Besides can you trust a guy who looks to put so much gel in his beard that he looks like a 1970s GI Joe action figure. EDIT: Without searching, I bet he's a guy who regularly uses the phrases alpha and beta male, has membership at a UFC gym, and most likely only dates women under 21. However he will be clear with you that she's at least 18 and legal.
  19. I don't disagree that the Houston suburbs are not Houston. Nothing angers me more when I see a social media post about a great new Houston restaurant when I google it, it's in Richmond or Cypress. WTF. However I would take central Houston over Austin any day and most likely over SA as well. I don't know Dallas well so I won't just slam Dallas due to the Houston-Dallas rivalry.
  20. Could you imagine the uproar if Biden had found a method to raise taxes on Americans and then bragged about the amounts online? I'm unsure if Trump has ever acknowledged that Americans pay the tariff and not foreign countries. And why would the country pay the tariff and not the exporting company?? I do know that Bessent has reluctantly agreed in interviews that Americans do pay the tariff but then he pivots the conversation.
  21. Not sure the average Houston person cares about making Midtown better. There was a ton of money (public and private) poured into it, and it can't seem to stand on its own. The 3rd ward has always had problems with poverty and homelessness.
  22. Hardly anyone in Houston cares about downtown or improving it. It's not a top goal to make it a local destination. However showing a picture from the 70s or zoomed in current parking spots is disingenuous. Not to mention that I'm not sure what is wrong about having ample parking for 3 professional sports/concert venues and theaters and performing arts. I like being able to park within a few blocks of the ballpark and zoom out of there quickly when it's over. Downtown Houston has even hosted Indy series races. Most of the other Texas cities has to farm out pro sports/concerts to the suburbs or exurbs because they can't make it work remotely close to downtown. As for homeless, yea its a problem here like anywhere. I'm unsure there is a solution when the feds, state and local officials can't agree on a consensus path. And they're effectively being kicked out of downtown so the neighboring areas are feeling the impact.
  23. FWIW, I’ve worn down most of molars and my dentist advises me to be as conservative as possible with crowns. As in only get one when I absolutely need it. I guess it’s possible to wait so long that they can’t put a crown on it but it would seem like that could be identified well in advance. his reasoning about being conservative was that a crown will wear down a natural tooth on the other jaw. Maybe that’s an argument to get them all replaced but I would be cautious. I don’t know about overbilling commercial insurance but it’s not hard to find stories of dentists committing fraud against Medicaid especially in poor communities. Poor parents are less likely to question the dentist or complain to Medicaid. I recall stories where dentists extract all of the baby teeth of a child or crown all of them. And end up settling govt fraud cases down the road.
  24. Many companies will true up the match for employees at the end of the year for those who maxed out early. Once again its always good to read the documents if not reach out to the plan administrator at your company. You miss out on some growth opportunity with the match being delayed but at least you receive it. Bonuses have never counted as much of my overall comp but I’ve never run across my smallish bonuses being hit with a retirement % withdrawal. I could see that being different for those more dependent on bonuses.
  25. So RFK Jr. is basically doing everything that he told the public and senators that he wouldn’t do. In any other administration we would be looking at impeaching the President over this.
