  1. I can’t recall the exact details but I saw a short form documentary about these underemployed men in WV. When asked if they were open to school or healthcare jobs, their answer was hell no. Maybe the filmmaker edited the video to support his narrative but it was believable. whats completely backwards is how so many of these voters now support the billionaire class and many are anti-union at the macro level. Perhaps they hope some crumbs will fall to them.
  2. Some men, old or young, are susceptible to believing the loudest, most confidence voice in the room. If you tell them that football team X will win by 21 tonight, or that Biden is working to give your job to a illegal alien, they are prone to accept that as truth. And act on it. Many men also work in male dominated fields. At the end of daily safety meeting, why wouldn't you believe your boss who says that the Dems will destroy your industry. And he heard it from his boss the day before. I imagine these are daily talks in the O&G fields. Those with critical thinking skills may recognize that the facts don't match the rhetoric but also why wouldn't you vote for Trump and his drill, baby, drill mantra.
  3. Great point. If you are contributing to your 401k in your last year of work, it's not just about the limited growth of those contributions in those last few months. It's easy for anyone to focus on the balance as of that last day of work. Unless of course someone is flipping their entire retirement into an annuity which I've never seen recommended. That last year could 10x by the time you spend it.
  4. The DOJ needs to offer up some level of immunity or decreased sentencing guidelines for those willing to turn themselves in. Of course that also requires them to come clean with any information they have about others being there as well. I don't want to see these traitors get off scot free but instead offer them an incentive to save some effort. I don't expect 1000s or even 100s to surrender but I bet that some surrender who would have never been caught otherwise.
  5. I'm not following. Say someone has $1m (or 2 or 3) in a 401k or IRA. They withdraw 3% per year and increase it roughly by inflation rates each subsequent years. In a down year, you're saying that someone should borrow from their whole life plan (is that permanent?) to replenish the account balance? I thought the point of the low withdrawal rate (3-4%) was to handle the downturns without long term problems except in very unlucky situations of multi-year downturns especially in the beginning years. Or are you saying that someone with the whole life backup, could bump up to >5% withdrawal? When I see the high premiums for whole life, it doesn't make sense to me. AFLAC is showing a rough estimate of $450/month for a 30 year old to get $500K in coverage. Put the $450 into the market and you would have over ~$1M at 65. Instead you have a whole life policy only worth $500K.
  6. @AnTiM And who sent you an email regarding the charge? The company charging you or Discover? And what departments did you speak with? The only charge that confuses me every year is the one from Surly. At certain points the charge had a name that wasn't Surly and I would immediately flag it as an unauthorized charge.
  7. The GOP loves themselves former Navy SEALs. By just seeing that Sheehy is ~40 and looks to be in decent shape, I knew that he was selected as a candidate because he was a former Navy SEAL. A quick google validated that though. They look to create the image and then find the guy, who fits that image, to get the spot. 2024's Brady Bunch Johnny Bravo .
  8. You know it's a slow news day when news sites have an article for the death of a relatively unknown actor. You will see a headline link for "Happy Days actor passes away" or something like that. Then they mention that the actor was in 1 episode. The editor got you to click which was the point.
  9. The whole life sales team always say there scenarios where whole life is the best but I've never seen them produce a listing. Presumably if they list those scenarios, then it can be refuted or pointed out that most customers don't fit those scenarios.
  10. Trump only sees the down ballot candidates as a money maker for him. If they want his endorsement, they need to give him money. Usually by renting out a Trump facility. Pay extra and get a tweet. Pay even more and you get a photo opportunity. There will be zero money in the other direction.
  11. That actually makes sense especially if Cornyn is considering retirement. I imagine that she's nowhere as toxic in Texas as she is in AZ. Hasn't Cornyn previously announced that he's seeking to replace McConnell as GOP leader in January? That doesn't sound like a guy looking to retire.
  12. Not that I would be surprised but is this a Trump account?
  13. Any honest, historical review of Christianity will identify plenty of Christians and their organizations who do not follow the New Testament and Christ. They use the Bible to justify mistreatment of others to their own benefit but cover themselves with righteousness. obviously they are people who truly follow the teachings of Christ as well.
  14. Doesn’t make a lot of sense that an AZ senate candidate, who is losing in the polls, is attending a football game in college station that doesn’t involve her state in any form. I also believe that both Arizona and Arizona St. had home games at the same time as the Aggie game. Extremely unserious candidacy other than fundraising for herself. i bet if someone dug a little into her campaign, there must be donation funds being funneled to her personal account in the form of consultancy or services. I believe her husband works for her campaign.
  15. Isn’t it most likely that if you go the Medicaid pay route, you’re most likely sharing a room with another Medicaid recipient? I would also question if a dual pay facility (Medicaid and private/insurance) really offers the exact same care for both. While the care level may be the same on paper but the facility definitely has an incentive to keep the private payment residents happier. The Medicaid resident is going to receive acceptable or adequate care. if a family is out of money, I’m not suggesting that everyone gets a second or third job to pay for mom’s private room but I do question placing inheritance above her care.
  16. Good on BIL to move onto the last stage of grief: acceptance. you’ll have to report back his attitude when Connor hangs 350 yds on McNeese next.
  17. The team nullifies any advantage by loud fans. As much as A&M says otherwise a loud fanbase cannot will their team to win against decent opponents. You still need coaching and players.
  18. How pathetic that Cruz addresses the curse by stating the times that he has seen Texas teams win.
  19. Agree that T'Kor has something going on with her unique accent but whatever. As for Tucker screwing up his AI power this week, it was the perfect opportunity to create a mix of outing real and made up alliances. You would have thought that the producers would have fed him ideas unless he rejected them.
  20. The whole tax on unrealized capital gains is a complete red herring. Even the Dems sweep in November, it's extremely doubtful this would be a priority. Will they raise tax or close some loopholes for the wealthy? That's a possibility. But create a process to track and tax unrealized capital gains? 0.001% chance.
  21. to be clear, no is saying that everyone at a Southern school walks in or out a stepford wife racist. We're talking about averages. and of course, that average person does not see themselves in that light.
  22. I agree this is an important question but just because EV are a relatively recent addition to grid usage it doesn't mean they have any less right to electricity. If Texas residents want to use power for EVs, it's ERCOT's (and presumably PUC and the Texas govt.) to expand the grid to meet that demand. Whether power is being pumped into homes, industry or EVs, ERCOT is supposed to plan for that increase.
  23. This week, I went with Sling Orange with the sports package. Looks to be the best (cheapest) option to get college football that I care about. Yes the overall package deal can be better with YTTV but that trap is easy to fall into. Their monetization teams always know to put the next tier just $10 more for 50 more channels. with sling orange+ I will get SEC and mainstream games minus the B10 network. And while no CR, I like the addition of CNN going into the election. Gotta love John king and his magic map board. edit: month 1 was $31 for orange+ and $51 for additional months.
  24. lol. I could easily see the rest of the country paying for a wall around Texas. Doors optional.
