  1. No CR but the Sunday afternoon news cycle is a good time trump to announce crypto friendly picks for treasury/sec/cftc.
  2. Biden needs to start issuing popular (relatively) policies via executive order. Even act on them before a federal judge stops them. Want to write off student debt? Mail out the checks. Don’t announce the exec order until after the checks start getting cashed and media starts hearing about them. See if Trump has the balls to attempt to roll back the amounts or charge them via taxes. perhaps wait until the last federal judges are confirmed.
  3. Fuck him. Little girls were being molested in front of him and he allowed it because he thought it was acceptable recovery practices. Perhaps he didn’t know the doctor got off doing it but that’s a flimsy excuse.
  4. RFK Jf. is the type of rebel who only desires to be brought into the inner circle. He will now do anything trump wants.
  5. Trump will hurt America and Americans but the one ray of hope that I have is that we’re seeing more examples of Trump being able the adequately get things done. He was pathetic at doing the easiest things as president the first time. Now as president-elect, everyone is simultaneously laughing at his picks while being horrified with the thought of them in power. Perhaps the one worst rep or senator (now or recent) that Trump could have chosen instead of Gaetz was George santos. No one in Congress likes Gaetz and now they’re all tasked with keeping gaetz’s secrets and confirming his appointment. Kevin McCarthy will use any last power he has to ensure that ethics report is made public.
  6. I'm sure Johnson is going to say that it's an incomplete report, or that Gaetz didn't have a chance to appeal the findings, etc. etc. The fix was always in. They will find a judge to agree, and the Ethics Committee has no standing to "complete" their report. What's the saying that when the facts are not on your side, argue the law. I bet we never see the report. At best the witnesses could publicly state their side but do you really want to go against Trump and the potential AG?
  7. Wasn't there a constant problem for Trump's chiefs of staff where they constantly had to attempt to keep people away from Trump as he would consistently listen to the last voice he heard? and since people know this, they would look for ways around the chief of staff.
  8. Rewatching season 1. Hopefully finish by the end of the weekend. Glad I'm working through these episodes because I had forgotten some story lines.
  9. he resigned from this congress. But he won his race for the next congress. Besides DeSantis can appoint whomever he wants, and if Trump tells DeSantis to appoint Gaetz back to his seats, DeSantis will. The resignation was about preventing the planned release of the ethics report today. EDIT: His Wednesday resignation stopped the Ethic Committee on voting on the release today of the report to the public. The House is making noise that now Gaetz is no longer a member, they may have a duty to destroy their findings on Gaetz and definitely not give it to the Senate or the public.
  10. For the max 401k crowd (traditional or roth) check to see if your employer allows for after tax contributions. I'm in year 6 of my employment and just learned that I can contribute an additional 10K as after tax dollars to my traditional 401k and then have it automatically converted to my roth 401k account. It's a way of pushing up to $10K extra into my roth via payroll deductions. Backdoor roth IRA contributions are tricky for me tax wise because I have traditional IRA balances. I believe this works around that issue or at least I haven't discovered it yet. as always don't take tax advice from someone named after a movie tough guy.
  11. Trump putting wild picks into the AG and HHS is a misdirection as they drastically change other agencies. What's more fun to discuss on MSNBC? New vaccine rules or gutting 1000s of jobs in unknown departments? And high probability that Gaetz remains in the House. Trump probably has to throw one to the Senate to let them reject. It removes scrutiny on other nominees. Gaetz would agree to being cannon fodder to get a Trump pardon or two.
  12. He better be careful of getting his wish given his proclivity in breaking certain laws and potentially even more if he has more power.
  13. from his lips to God's ears. But I hope he doesn't wait for that amount before starting to sell.
  14. I won’t duplicate my post from the Gaetz thread but I’m convinced he is never going to make it to the senate confirmation and that has always been the plan.
  15. I feel like the fix is in with this entire nomination perhaps even to a point that Trump doesn't plan on Gaetz being AG. Timeframe: The ethics investigation was set to be released tomorrow, the 15th Gaetz is named as the AG nominee AND he resigned from Congress on the 13th By resigning, the ethics probe is no longer needed and may be locked away The Senate committee have said they want to see ethics report (Theory) Gaetz withdraws his AG nomination and DeSantis reappoints Gaetz back to his House seat (Theory) Once reinstated, it's possible that the ethics probe findings are moot since it occurred during his previous tenure not current (Shakiest part of my theory) This could all be Trump helping Gaetz to avoid the ethics probe findings from being made public. My guess is that if the House Ethics committee announces they are releasing the findings, Gaetz will take them to court to prevent it. Any holes in this theory?
  16. I've been thinking about it but I wouldn't want to subscribe to a service. I would want it recording to a local memory card that only retains X hours of video and continuously overwrites. I think some devices record 24/7 so at least you might get some footage if someone messes with your car. so perhaps it is worth pushing the video to the internet in case of car theft.
  17. As a cautious bitcoin evangelist, I think stories from @CHIEF are still potentially possible if someone gets into bitcoin today. Forgetting the per-bitcoin price, his friend basically turned $30K into $700K. Is there still room for a >20x return if someone got into bitcoin today? While it seem crazy to think that bitcoin could ever approach a $2m/bitcoin price, someone would have had previously said the same of $90K. I've seen estimates of the global gold market at $19T whereas bitcoin is at $1.75T today. I think there's a strong argument that bitcoin could catch if not surpass gold. That simple math takes btc to $1m each. Now if sovereign funds (middle east, norway, perhaps the US or EU) would get into the mix, no one has any idea what that would do it. Or bitcoin could be worth a few pennies next year. who knows. But if you invested $30K today, your max loss is 30K with an arguable potential gain of >10x.
  18. Yes. Dems should quickly state how each candidate is inadequate for the task, if not openly harmful and then add documentation for the rest. Call out Gaetz for his involvement of sex with underage girls and that Gabbard has a too-close relationship with foreign adversaries. Then document the hell out of everything in the senate filings for future historians. Does that change anything today? No but the Dems can't stop the process and attempts will waste political capital. Democrats used to be able to hold senate seats in GOP leaning, if not fully red, states but that has/is quickly ending. It makes the senate tough for them because of all of the small red states. Its why barely losing 2 seats in PA and OH 2 weeks ago so painful for them. They have to find a way to win. They also need to allow, if not force, senators like Ossoff or Warnock do more to appeal to their moderate bases. the good news is that they should be able to do so given the Dem's lack of power.
  19. For those who don't know the first bitcoin real world purchase was 2 pizzas for 10,000 bitcoin in 2010. I hope the guy at least got 2 large supreme pizzas for what is now $910 million. (At the time, at best the 10K bitcoins were worth $20 so it wasn't an absurd cost.) but seriously it can be painful to pay via bitcoin because frankly the system is not designed to go fast. You would never buy a coffee with bitcoin with its basic tech. Now if you transfer something like ETH or USDC via the polygon network, the funds are moved before you can even refresh the page or app. I hope the guy somewhat realized that he was incurring an ~$700K capital gain and thought through the tax implications. But I love stories like this.
  20. Thune has already implied that he wants confirmation hearings as long as the Democrats don't obstruct the process. Obstruct is the eye of the beholder. Is asking questions of the nominee obstructing? Obviously you can eventually obstruct just for the sake of delaying which honesty Dems shouldn't do. Americans voted for a MAGA President and Senate, so they get the right to confirm his picks if that is their desire. In the past, some nominees had to eventually withdrawal at the insistence of the WH who were tired of some confirmation hearing. Remember when Zoe Baird had the unforgivable sin of not paying taxes for her nanny or housekeeper. I forget which. But I don't think Trump will ask a nominee to withdrawal under almost any circumstance.
  21. As far as 2026, don’t sleep on special elections for anyone promoted to trumps cabinet and I assume Vance’s seat. Trump will tell those governors who to name as the senator for ‘25-‘26, and he is awful at choosing candidates. One rumor has Trump wanting Vivek as Ohio senator replacing Vance. Vivek would be a possible pickup for Dems next election.
  22. No idea. One of the positives about crypto spending is that both parties are private.
  23. you mean the guy who's failing pharamaceutical firm is waiting on FDA approval on drugs that have proven time and time again to fail? No, he shouldn't have any say in weeding out inefficiencies in govt. He has zero experience in that.
  24. never too late to join in.* not financial advice.
  25. I will bet anyone here that he will start having DOGE surveys on X: "Who thinks we should cut _____ dept and their 100 employees?"
