  1. Surprisingly Trump did actually mention OBL and predicted a future terrorist attack in that 2000 book. In separate chapters. Pre 9/11, most Americans couldn’t have named OBL but his name and terrorist background was known to people who cared to know and not a secret. as for Trump mentioning Hegseth in this speech segment, he must have tripped over his words or memory combining his old book with talking to Hegseth in the last few days. When my dad went thru dementia he often exhibited similar confusion. also important to remember that Trump never wrote his own books. It’s probably a 99.999% chance that the ghost author inserted that info and Trump never even read it.
  2. I can get behind an idea related to refunds for freshmen dropouts. They shouldn’t get credits and a refund but if UT didn’t convince them it was worth to return, why not offer a one time satisfaction guarantee.
  3. Probably not too expensive for road construction companies to buy influence via donations to a mayoral campaign. And metro hasn’t had good ideas or the ability to sell them in a while. They can’t get much support from commuters/drivers because it’s rarely better to take metrorail over driving. Perhaps it’s cheaper to take the rail but only if your time isn’t of value to you or money is a concern.
  4. Glad that they’re actually making a sequel as opposed to unoriginal or lazy idea to go with a remake. It will be interesting to see how they make it work especially given that Star Wars isn’t as much in the fore front as it was even in ‘87. IMO or at least from my perspective at the time. They can’t really spend much time making fun of Star Wars elements today. I’m sure they can go with a baby yoda/mandalorian reference or joke but a joke with the original, prequel or even sequel would be dated. (Yes, I know the last sequel was only released 6 years ago. I looked it up. does anyone really care about the sequels?)
  5. Caught a social media video of a city council member or a candidate took to the streets to show that walking was faster than the Red Line MetroRail while in the downtown district. Metro ended up being faster but not by much. The light rail system disappointed me that it's at street level for 99% of its layout so it's too slow. Every time I've researched using light rail for my commute, it would add up to an hour for my daily commute. (30 minutes in each way.)
  6. I hope for her sake that is photoshopped or AI generated.
  7. I assume that we’re not far from the Right’s 17th boycott of the NFL in the last 10 years. The Right only believes in zero games. Talk about helping out a non-white person, then you’re taking something away from the Right.
  8. You have to guess that 2026 will bring on a few crypto options for a limited number of 401k employer programs.
  9. I didn't know much of Kendrick Lamar until the halftime show and enjoyed it. The guarantee of having a negative experience is going in with a negative attitude. I assume that the anti Bad Bunny bias will get louder and louder. I have to assume Trump will butt into it soon when he needs a distraction. Hispanic events make too many MAGA think of illegal Mexicans, Spanish being spoken and the eventual move to white, non-Hispanics losing their majority status.
  10. The Flag Code is open to interpretation. I don't see how the American Legion has a say in it. And on that note, it's also odd when veterans or their organizations somehow decided that they're the keeper of patriotism and flag rules.
  11. A few shrubs at ground level is not hindering Centerpoint. They wind the power lines around trees, literally bending the lines to go around tree trunks, on my property so a couple of shrubs is nothing. If they need to tear out a shrub, who cares. If they need to come around every 15 years to perform work, then I would replant every 15 years.
  12. fair point and I wasn't even considered athletic dept mistakes.
  13. It would be interesting to see what would occur if/when Trump is leaving office and how he would effectively transition the business power he currently wields. With no doubt, he will have already lined his own pockets but would he hand over his veto authority of these companies to another GOP or a Dem president? My guess is that he would spend his final days unwinding all of these deals to return control (financial and golden share) to the companies most likely in exchange for something for himself and the Trump org.
  14. Can you post a pic of the setup that you're describing? (I realize you run a chance of doxxing yourself if as nearby neighbor is on surly.) Another option for you is to hide the utility pole setup by building a fence around it, or planting shrubs. You run a risk of Centerpoint tearing it up one day but it doesn't have to be the best and most expensive fence in the world. I have a neighbor who has a utility pole in the corner of their backyard, so they built a fence that effectively removed a few square feet of their backyard. They obviously see the utility pole above their fence.
  15. When reading the story, I immediately wondered what the mom looked like, and this would seem to be someone in Sid's wheelhouse.
  16. Hegseth is an odd combination of a manufactured politician plus someone who keeps screwing up. From a shallow perspective, he's an educated, military guy with extensive media background. That's custom built for a top leadership position. And getting to SecDef is pretty damn high up in terms of an appointment. Maybe SecState is the only higher appointed position. But he also ranks fairly high in the character flaws that he can't seem to control. Most likely stemming from his alcohol problem. What's scary is that he could very well succeed in getting elected from a populist party like MAGA.
  17. Imagine that you're the GOP treasury secretary and a conservative CNBC anchor tells you to your face that you made up that story.
  18. It's also interesting to me that the official flag code of the US states that you should never wear the flag as apparel. to me that doesn't just mean wrapping an actual flag around you but putting the flag on your clothes in any design such as this. Now I know people may not like that, especially those where 100% of their tshirts have a flag on it, but if you're ignoring one part of the flag code, then aren't all of the flags rules discounted as well? I understand that the flag code is more of about guidelines and recommendations, and there is no enforcement or penalties for violating it.
  19. UT has been making bad decisions for decades now so why won't they continue the trend by acquiescing here.
  20. Trump doesn't have the courage to send our troops into any environment where they could face losses. Instead he will only send them into US cities.
  21. What a child. Look at me, shoving my unconstitutional plans in your face.
  22. I feel like some (most? all?) of the ultra high yield funds are an attempt to catch a falling knife. I know that some here or on Reddit go crazy about the YieldMax funds like UTLY because there's a 80% yield but the fund is also down 47% over the last 12 months. Maybe that is still an overall positive but whats the risk that the fund won't drop another 50% tomorrow.
  23. It would be satisfying if the generals/admirals would have all walked out on Trump but that feeling would be fleeting. Trump would fire them all and appoint personal loyalists in their position, which would take us closer to ending democracy. There's no doubt in my mind that some of them will be fired after yesterday anyway. You have to guess that both Loomer and Hegseth are running their own research into each military leader to find any possible connection to disloyal comments. This would especially be true if any of them rolled their eyes or displayed other disrespectful looks. Trump cares more about personal loyalty than the defense of the US since he feels that personal loyalty to him IS the defense of the US.
  24. Trump announces that the US is guaranteeing Qatar security: I'm sure this has nothing to do with the 747 that Qatar donated to Trump. Even if an foreign relation exec order is fully legitimate and in the best interest of the US, this is why we have those pesky rules of not allowing President to personally accept material gifts, like an expensive watch or a $400m plane. You can't decouple the legitimacy from the illegitimacy.
  25. Sick of the politicians or home remodelers spamming you via text messages, the new iOS 26 feature can hide all of those messages. How to Enable "Screen Unknown Senders" Open the Messages app on your iPhone. Tap the Filters button (it looks like three lines with circles) at the top-right of the conversation list. Tap Manage Filtering. Scroll to the "Unknown Senders" section and tap to turn Screen Unknown Senders on. this places all unknown numbers into another section of Messages. You must add a number to contact or mark it as known to show in the main messages section. This also kills the notifications. You also may need to check the unknown from time to time in case something is there that you want.
