  1. Ha. The number of people where prayer has helped on an exam is zero. You're better off re-reading one more paragraph before the teacher hands out the test.
  2. When Trump has his "press conferences" he needs to be hammered with the names of people that he claims not to know but are in charge of this. In fact, play to Trump's ego. Tell him that Vought is claiming that Vought will dictate Trump's policies. That will set Trump off, and potentially move away from their horrible platform. On the off chance that Trump wins. There is no doubt that people are putting together many exec orders ready for Trump to sign. Most likely without Trump having a clue what is involved and definitely not knowing the impact.
  3. Would love to see the Texas Tribune ask every state senator, rep and major officeholders for the number of times and guests they've brought to Centerpoint's getaway compound. While it doesn't mean there is corruption, let's be clear on our politicians who appear tough on Centerpoint while simultaneously use them for vacations. And better yet, ask the same officeholders to commit to not using Centerpoint's compound until certain improvements are made.
  4. This has always been my view on those who fight to pray in the classroom. No one is stopping you from praying at home, on the ride to work, or even during your lunch break. Why do you need a minute at the beginning of home room? However this battle was lost long ago as I assume Texas students are praying in the classroom every day instead of learning.
  5. Was there a resisting arrest and battery charge since she attempted to get out of the cuffs and kick the officers?
  6. Just as the rise of Reagan saw many Democrats (esp Southern) quickly flip over to being Republicans, Trump could end up creating the opposite effect in pushing some back to the Dems. Take someone like Duncan. If he sees GA start to go blue, he or some other GOPer will see an opportunity to run as a moderate or conservative Dem. You take 80% of the Dem vote, many independents and 10% of the GOP vote, and you’re the next GA governor.
  7. There is a very low chance that these schools will teach the Bible and not preach. Which is the guideline.
  8. You know there was at least one state rep in that room flabbergasted on the statement that teaching the Bible could be construed as indoctrination. But but how can it be indoctrination when it’s the Truth?
  9. Are you finding plans for 10 cents or cheaper?
  10. In unrelated news, Amy Klobuchar just re-upped her DC condo lease for 6 more years.
  11. I didn't get my degree in math, but not winning any age range doesn't bode well for Trump. At least for the national vote, which counts for squat.
  12. When in doubt, choose who is allowed to vote. They are louder and louder calls to only allow voting from some combination of the following: land owners, men, parents, and if your grandfather had the right to vote. I assume that being a Christian and White is also spoken but in slightly more hushed tones.
  13. don't be so greedy. 50/40/10 split. 50 for you 40 for the church 10 to the pastor's brother-in-law.
  14. Dumb Double Dippin’ Darryl Dupes Debacle (someone from Surly must write these headlines in Oregon) https://ktvz.com/cnn-regional/2024/08/13/dumb-double-dippin-darryl-dupes-debacle-how-a-harris-county-scammer-created-a-2022-election-disaster/ Just imagine. This guy is double dipping 2 jobs for >$300K. Perhaps he didn't have any additional responsibilities on Election Day but of all days he didn't take PTO from Hess, it was Election Day. Maybe tone down the greed as election work is heating up. Tell Hess that you need vacation that week.
  15. He most likely doesn't really care too much. It's just another example of Paxton using his office to continue to show how he's owning the libs.
  16. Arizona and Missouri recently announced that abortion/reproductive rights will be on the 2024 ballot. They join FL, NV, CO, MD, NY and SD. NE and MT are considering it, meaning the GOP is fighting to prevent it. Not good for Trump in some of these states. I've given up on FL to flip blue for a while, but Rick Scott is polling poorly for a GOP FL incumbent in a red state. +4 in the only recent polls of likely voters. When he first won in 2018, the polling was neck and neck with incumbent Bill Nelson. The polling proved to be accurate in that Rick only won by 10K votes out of 8m ballots cast. Rick Scott is the Ted Cruz of Florida. Hopefully with Trump and abortion on the ballot, FL will send Rick Scott packing.
  17. LTC insurance is very expensive and some of the payouts can be limited to only a handful of years now. Obviously you can always but great coverage for $$$$. Feels like the only decent plans are ones that are offered in a group setting. You might be able to get better premiums and benefits in a group plan than buying individual. Unfortunately I believe it's getting rarer to find an employer who offers it.
  18. Have mixed feelings about Turner. I agree with some of his stances in Houston especially how he fought the firefighters on compensation. The city overwhelming voted for fire dept pay increases but while simultaneously asking for property tax decreases. Mainly Turner kicked the can down the road on many of Houston's tough issues but so does every mayor in almost every city.
  19. Turner can easily justify continuing after one term. He will only need to claim that retiring was 100% his plan but that the good people of the district begged him to stay. And in that case he will sacrifice his retirement to serve them.
  20. https://kfor.com/news/local/u-s-news-osde-denied-access-to-data-skewing-oklahoma-school-rankings/
  21. It was basically 70-30. While he definitely favored Hillary, it’s not like 30% is a massive underdog.
  22. I don’t know about all of these rankings but US News uses students’ AP scores in grading a state’s and even individual school’s rankings. Not by student name of course. It’s a large part of the ranking by determining college readiness the Oklahoma state board of education told US News to f-off when US News asked twice for permission to have the scores sent to them. The ranking ultimately gave Oklahoma a 0 for 30% of the scoring. Oklahoma really showed them US News commies. normally states and school district like to do whatever is possible to pump up their rankings. OK took a unique approach.
  23. SIAP. Trump telling Elon that any striking worker should be fired. I would love to see the reaction of the blue collar, union voters in Ohio, who plan to vote for Trump.
