  1. Biden has been a great President but a horrible candidate. And it's not like he was a good candidate in 2020. He just wasn't Trump.
  2. Trump won't debate anyone not named Biden. The GOP and Trump's opinion will be that any replacement is invalid. This would be their position that they would take the SCOTUS if they lost in Nov.
  3. A perfect political move would be for Biden to announce today that he's stepping down to pull attention away from Trump's speech tonight. But there may be honor among thieves to somewhat keep quiet during the other convention. And you don't want a big announcement tomorrow on a Friday. Instead I'm calling that he steps down from the race and potentially resigns on Sunday night. Harris needs to run from the Oval Office and not the VP office. Not to mention that she would get huge press by having the Senate confirm her VP, which would also be her VP candidate. That would be priceless free press.
  4. It might be minimal effort but there was partial 2022 Centerpoint updates in the Oak Forest neighborhood and north on Pinemont with extremely tall and tough electrical poles. https://www.theleadernews.com/community/centerpoint-updating-utility-poles-to-meet-energy-demand/article_02ca7d6c-d14d-11ec-b27a-9bc638c67c96.html This is on a residential street (Oak Forest Dr) of homes upwards of $1m in value, and many residents hated them based on the looks. Some of the streets near these poles were up running with power very quickly last week. I believe the power is delivered to each house with traditional poles and lines. This is the attitude when the city or Centerpoint want to improve. The woman quoted here would have fought against this change and prefer the traditional power delivery model. It's also very possible that this program didn't expand due to complaints to politicians. I imagine the pendulum will swing so that any tree within 10 feet of a line will be cut back, and homeowners will scream.
  5. When Biden is replaced, there will obviously be a name at the top but the Dems will basically throw a bullpen game. Anyone and everyone will be out hyping up a ______ victory. Biden is only a few days until bigger names, potentially even Obama, publicly calling for him to step down. Right now he has a chance to be praised for stewarding America through a difficult time.
  6. Just like the 99% of us who understand that it's good etiquette to wait your turn to exit the plane, there is a small minority that feel the opposite. They plan to rush forward as far as they can. They don't care what you think. For the most part airlines and airport enforce etiquette by their rules EXCEPT they don't care about how passengers leave the airplane. That's on society to enforce. I don't even recall airlines suggesting best behavior how to leave the plane.
  7. I wasn't blaming him but it's never right to touch a stranger to get their attention. I get that planes are noisy but I assume that he can raise his voice loud enough to be heard. And finally if the flight attendant is ignoring you for a cup of ice, it's not the end of the world. And once again, if his side of the story is accurate, he never should have been handcuffed. And honesty I don't understand why he was handcuffed anyway. Perhaps if you've been accused of assault, law enforcement is always going to cuff you.
  8. Terrell Davis enters the picture. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/terrell-davis-on-being-handcuffed-united-airlines-flight/ We only hear one side of the story but Davis shouldn't have touched the flight attendant. His story sounds harmless but it's pretty much better in today's world to not intentionally touch a stranger even just to get their attention. If he truly only tapped someone on the shoulder, to me that's bad manners not rising to the level of getting handcuffed by the law enforcement.
  9. Biden is going to be out, so it's time that his campaign accepts it. Outside of the named advisors to his campaign, I'm unsure that any Dem has endorsed that he remain. Pelosi keeps going on that she's waiting on Biden to make a decision. He's made a decision but it's obvious that she disagrees so she's going to keep asking for him to decide. When Trump gets his post convention bump, the Dems will panic and Biden will drop out.
  10. I care about the end results. 17 days vs 8. Was there significantly more damage with Ike? I have no idea as I didn't have power or TV for >half a month. If so say, I believe you.
  11. I'm tempted to get a portable NG generator to run certain parts of my house, including the refrigerator along with a method to connect it to the breaker box. With my gasoline generator I keep it far from my house because of the carbon monoxide danger. I understand that a malfunctioning NG generator could also produce CO, and in my experience NG generators are close to the house. Is that a realistic danger?
  12. I know that everyone is furious with Centerpoint but I was without power for 2.5 weeks with Ike and "only" 8 days with this Beryl. It's an improvement.
  13. Different areas have different results. It was the 40+ foot pines that took out roofs, cars ,power lines and blocked streets in my neighborhood. Oaks and other trees just created a mess with (smaller) limbs down. I'm not saying that zero oaks came down but rather they weren't the major factor.
  14. I've become resigned that Trump is going to win unless something major changes, including Biden standing down. Trump's campaign has been smart in building coalition(s) while Biden is fighting to show that he isn't senile while more and more Dems are calling for him to step down. Dems may need to quietly prioritize retaining the Senate and fighting to take over the House. Trump has the potential to screw it up but I'm thinking that he will do a better job of staying on message than he did in 2020. He should also get a post convention bump plus assassination attempt sympathy which will do nothing but put pressure on the Dems to change something.
  15. Team No Pine Trees. Mature pines produce some damage when they come down. Oak trees can as well, but oaks seem to drop their major limbs directly down whereas pines look like Paul Bunyan chopping them down and yelling Timber.
  16. He should resign immediately regardless of the political ramifications. This isn't like the mistake the Dems had with Al Franken and old misconduct. A federal conviction should push for anyone to resign. Edit: Remember that this was his second corruption trial. The first one ended in a hung jury in 2017. And I believe the charges for this latest trial all occurred AFTER the previous trial. Talk about not learning from your mistakes. We can only imagine how much money this guy has taken over the years.
  17. Haley must have a lobbying customer who wants something from the trump campaign. She hems and haws, the trump campaign gives her something and she makes money from the person sponsoring her.
  18. So what’s the strategy here? Work to get this case dismissed (current) or at least get the DOJ to prosecute it? That makes it easy for trumps AG to kill it. If it’s special counsel, the AG has to work to get rid of a special counselor/prosecutor.
  19. In a debate, Vance would say that he's completely in favor of a woman getting away from a violent husband. But you have to remember that those like Vance only believe this IF there can be a criminal conviction of the violent act(s). Without that, they believe the marriage should stay intact for the children.
  20. Given that it looks like Vance is the VP nominee, I don't see how this helps Trump in the election unless he feels that it's in the bag. I've always been confused about Vance's worldview given where he came from.
  21. Yes, I know of several people who seemed surprised about the need to maintain the generator during an extended power outage. It's not so simple as waiting for the annual maintenance schedule from the generator installer.
  22. I don't think anyone is saying that but that is somewhat the opinion of our leaders. I'm staying non-partisan here. Our leaders talk a big game during a crisis but history shows they won't do anything meaningful once the cameras move onto the next story.
