  1. I recall that around 2000 many GenX sports fan used Jim Rome terms and sayings. Dome, fish wrap, moellered, crack wagon, grill, jack, etc. Those ultimately ended when the next group up wanted to be unique.
  2. Recently went with a covid vaccine for the first time in over 2 years. Hearing about too many people getting covid and that this was the worst infection they’ve had.
  3. Right. my favorite is when the woman is yelling that they're hurting her as she violently twists her body back and forth. I doubt the cops go out of their way to hurt an older woman and the cuffs may be relatively loose if you let them do their job.
  4. years ago worked with this very conservative/libertarian type. He complained to no end about the inspection and smog check being unconstitutional. Of course, his pos car spewed smoke and I guessed he added a pint of oil per week. One day he shared a story that he spent a Saturday afternoon finding a state inspection station that didn't really check his car. I always wanted to add that he was the reason that we had these inspections not the rest of us but my goal was to avoid any unnecessary conversations with the guy.
  5. Story emphasizing your point and what a POS Ryan Walter is. Oklahoma legislature authorizes funds for the OK Education Dept to buy albuterol inhalers for every school. $250K. Only one company has the ability to fulfill the order and train teachers. Walters has been dragging his feet on the purchase. He has a history of not distributing the funds for the legislature purpose. But he somehow found millions to buy Bibles. The source of that money has been a mystery https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/politics/government/2024/10/03/chuck-hall-ryan-walters-oklahoma-asthma-inhaler-funding/75498239007/
  6. from social media videos that I've seen, there are too many white women, especially older, who seem to believe that it's acceptable to struggle against being arrested. When a cop starts to put on the handcuffs, the handcuffs are going on with or without a struggle. There are plenty of other arrestees who would have accidentally fallen down a stairway in the aftermath of this arrest.
  7. Bidenomics looks to be working well. 16.6m jobs created under his watch, whereas Trump had a -2.9m. Note: Trump had 3 more months at this point.
  8. This is America so it kinda goes without saying. Sad.
  9. I for one can’t wait to see how much further Kyle falls. I don’t want to personally see it but I mean see it on this thread. signing autograph and posing for pics at a slip knot cover band festival seems low. Is that low?
  10. Polls show Tester behind when polls at roughly the same time in 2018 had him up by a few points. Tester ultimately won a close election. my bet is that most Montanans see/hear Tester and pretty much agree with him. But there’s the (D) after his name, so no.
  11. ‘88 grad here with the same experience and probably same textbook. We spent more time on the teapot dome scandal than anything after 1945. If the same logic applied today students probably get up to Watergate. You probably need to be 25+ years behind so that some parents don’t have strong aversion to the history being taught.
  12. Facts are not welcome with Trump World
  13. There was probably sketchy things during JFKs victory but there is zero consensus that the ‘60 election was stolen from Nixon. There are allegations of more votes than voters in Texas counties but those same counties had the same number of voters in ‘56 and ‘64. Or they point to stories of Chicago corpses voting for jfk but jfk won by 2 states. Illinois by itself didn’t matter.
  14. I believe the amount is prorated at the same percentage that you were covered for the HDHP for that year.
  15. You’re right in that the Texas GOP could probably shift a few degrees to the left and they could corner 60% of the vote. The far far right ain’t going to vote for anyone else. Instead of a smart political shift they will try to take the vote away from large counties. if they also fear that the governor or lt governor could be a Democrat, look for them to curb the powers of those offices. If Abbott thought a Dem would beat him, he would sign a law on the way out making the role ceremonial and add a term limit of 1.
  16. I’m sure some other inmates will put up her with her craziness because she’s 70. But you know there will be at least one inmate that will hear Peters talk for a few minutes and then beat the shit out of her. Peters doesnt seem like the type to keep to herself.
  17. In football with an injury, fake or legitimate, can create a 10 second run off the clock depending on when it occurs. This stunt err health scare should add more time.
  18. And for anyone wondering, this was a state prosecution so with an unfortunate Trump administration, she doesn't get out of prison. I can't say whether 9 years is appropriate for all of her crimes but it never helps a case when you are adamant that your actions are not against the law. I assume her only option are appeals. Maybe she can find a friendly appeal courts who will lower her prison stay. EDIT: If you skim or read through her wikipedia page, this woman has continually violated court orders, committed new crimes and lied to the police & judge over the last two years. With some of Mike Lindell's money, she gone through different attorneys and even appealed up to the SCOTUS. She attempted the Trump playbook with delays but it finally caught up with her.
  19. I believe that Kinzinger now lives in Houston. Unsure if it’s related to his wife (is she from here?), new job or if he sees a future in Texas politics.
  20. Chronicle article (free link) about the changing demographics of Texas voters. The focus is on the increasing population along I-35 and Harris county in contrast of the relative lack of growth elsewhere. i haven’t seen an election analyst flat out say that it’s 50-50 for statewide elections yet but the combination of Cruz and Trump this year creates a perfect storm of blue hatred. I’m convinced that if the Beto-Cruz race had been in 2020 instead of 2018, Beto would have won. In 2018 Cruz had Abbott running for governor but not Trump which helped Cruz. Looking forward to seeing the early vote totals by county and state total in a couple of weeks. Hope I’m wrong but I don’t see how Allred retains the Beto vote and finds the 215k votes that Beto lost by.
  21. Offer Collins secretary of whatever to move to the exec dept.
  22. We have many years of Texas high school students who were only taught to pass the TAKS and then STAARS tests. They don’t know anything about Carter. The answer to any question about the Carter administration is Iran Hostage crisis but I doubt Carter warrants more than a couple of paragraphs in a history textbook. Overall Carter is a relatively minor presidency surrounded by more memorable people and events. He had JFK, LBJ, Vietnam and Nixon before him and Reagan and the Cold War ending afterwards. Yes, I ignored Ford. General history will pretty much ignore Carter too. a deeper dive into history would be kinder to Carter especially in an ideal of selfless post presidencies.
  23. When you mean to set the bomb timer for 80 seconds and instead set it for 80 years.
  24. Some Texas Democrats need to be given a strong reason to vote. And it's not really that big of a deal to vote. Yes, you need an ID which honesty most people should have anyway. Then you need to find an hour during early voting.
  25. Pathetic that Cruz can only run on stopping "boys in girl sports."
