  1. Guarantee those guys are told to not make promises that they can’t personally deliver. and as much pressure as the citizens and politicians are putting on centerpoint, I guarantee they’re getting more pressure from the power generation companies and electricity providers. Having Houston down is economically killing all of them. That is why politicians are now getting involved.
  2. Ha. That’s what I have today along with several other extension cords snaking throughout my house. since it’s becoming a multi process per year, I need to find a better method. Or just get the whole house generator since it’s now a Houston necessity.
  3. As a misdirect, Abbott is calling for an investigation into the power outage. anything to not put themselves in the direction of criticism of failing to act as state leaders.
  4. They’re backdating a document as we speak. Chronicle pointed out that with many (all?) Texas hurricanes both Abbott and Perry declared an emergency and requested federal assistance BEFORE the hurricane hit. Lt Dan waited until the day after (Tuesday) because he claimed that he needed to personally survey the disaster. Wtf.
  5. I would guess that CP doesn't know where all of the breaks are. I assume that once a line goes out, it's not easy to understand that it's 1, 2 or 10 breaks with that line.
  6. Centerpoint sucks but I will give the city credit with some of their flood prevention work over the last 6-7 years. I haven't heard of too many flooded areas like we've seen with other storms. Granted this wasn't as bad as Allison or Harvey. Unfortunately there is very little that can be done with the flood prone areas that are closer to the discharge areas near galveston bay or ship channel. Take buffalo and white oak bayous need downtown. They will just flood especially given geography and bay levels. And if anything, the flood prevention projects are pushing water faster to the bayous from the streets.
  7. One thing I need to investigate is finding ethanol free gas in central Houston. I prefer using it on small engines like generators and should be using it with my lawnmower. However I only know that the Buc'ees in Katy and Waller have it. Too far to drive unless I'm already out that way for another reason.
  8. I realize that GOP politicians have to suck up to Trump to receive any power, but how pathetic is it that our "leaders" can only look to one person to do something. A congressman should feel they can improve the lives of their constituents and all Americans regardless of who is in the WH.
  9. My list easier method/device to switch my fridge to generator power. Right now my fridge has been pulled out to the center of the kitchen. portable cooling tower for my living room. I have a window unit for my bedroom but the living room doesn't have a convenient window. Perhaps a second generator. I question having my current one run practically 24/7. That can't be good for it. look into having the starlink internet equipment without a subscription with the ability to quickly subscribe. or just a one-way ticket out of Texas.
  10. Some of the most recent red issues have been very anti-rural living. Take school vouchers. That will destroy small town education unless your family only wants a religious education. And forget it if you or your family actually works for the ISD. Bitcoin mining equipment produces 2 physical things with the high use of electricity: noise and heat. A single bitcoin device sounds like a vacuum cleaner, and the granbury site referenced in the Time article has 30K of them. That place must make a racket up close, and even a dull hum nearby.
  11. I assume the Amex is your name. Hence why the store credit card is now in your name. For the first time in years, I bought something at Best Buy this weekend. When completing the transaction on the pad, it asked me if I wanted a best buy card. I hit no, but I assume it would have been an relatively easy process and a couple of clicks to get one. Most likely my BoA card, that I was using, would have been all that I needed and BoA probably would receive a kickback award from BB.
  12. Lt. Dan saying that he's not hard to find if Biden needs to talk to him. MFer, it's not the President's job to track you down when your state is the one that needs assistance. You reach out to the President for help not the other way.
  13. I don’t see Abbott caring that much if Houston is suffering. And he will sacrifice the red counties to the S and N of Houston.
  14. employees in some jobs are effectively told to show every day, or not show up ever again. Bosses like that are also probably not the best at communicating in emergencies.
  15. when mother nature turns your driveway into the entrance to the Bat Cave.
  16. All with Lake Livingston’s dam not doing so well. https://www.click2houston.com/video/news/local/2024/07/03/new-details-on-lake-livingston-dam-damage/
  17. In central Houston, the wind has now shifted from the west. Should be in the final heavy gusts phase as the eye moves past us to the north.
  18. https://www.harriscountyfws.org/ Showing 6-9 inches in Houston over the last 6 hours. The detail view of individual bayou stations have flooding likely in a few downstream spots and upstream stations are getting close to flood stage.
  19. Compared to Ike, I find this a worse experience. Ike hit Houston at night and I slept through most of it. This morning I feel each wind gust as branches/limbs are hitting the roof.
  20. Rain is almost blowing horizontal due west so maybe you might see some misting.
  21. NSIAP. Report from washpo regarding the day of the debate. If true, this pisses me off how little Biden is aware of his condition. Link. On the second quote, I don’t believe anything out of the Trump camp but I could see this being somewhat accurate.
  22. When you see youngish white guys fighting each other, it can be tough to understand which side is which.
  23. Guessing a line from Sugar Land to The Woodlands is going to get beat up the most with the winds/rain. This storm direction is about as worse case possible for Houston but thankfully it’s a cat 1 storm. Cat 4 on this path would have been devastating.
  24. I was being vague about the location. I’m in the GOOF area but the Kroger gas at 43rd/Ella had power. For anyone that wants to watch a storm chaser drive around the eye, he’s live streaming. Believe he said he uses starlink for internet.
  25. Complete dumbass here. Fired up the generator here in the heights. Dawned on me that I had enough gas for 5-6 hours. luckily the closest gas station had power and plenty of gas. Yes I’m a moron but now I have enough gas for 2+ days.
