  1. I wouldn’t be surprised if we find out that Clarence Thomas’ wife was a recipient of Russian money.
  2. All of the named pay-for-videos are also on the Turning Point USA frequent speaker lists: Pool, Rubin, Chen, Johnson, etc. Hard to believe that others with Turning Point are involved at some level. Would Charlie Kirk turn down money?
  3. What's Sack handle now? Zero chance that he has stayed away since he stopped posted under that name.
  4. I have one friend who can't not complain about gas prices if you spend more than 1 hour with him. He also works from home, and probably fills up his truck once per month. He also earns big dollars from a software company that sells to O&G majors. He has disagreed that any higher energy prices have put a $1 in his pocket. Come on man.
  5. yeah, calling MN or CO a battle ground state would be the same if Dems called Iowa or Missouri battleground states. Maybe they used to be, and it's not a 100% impossibility but it would take extraordinary circumstances for any of these states to flip.
  6. Trump is promising gas below $2/gallon. Might have to go ask the O&G thread how they feel about that outcome. But seriously this is just Trump running for 5th grade class president by promising no homework. I fully expect that before Election Day he will promise to eliminate all income tax on day 1.
  7. Great question. I struggle with how much I will need. Honesty I don't see how I will spend less in retirement except that I might "spend" less in investing activities. I work off an assumption that I will need my current take-home minus what I normally shove into my brokerage account, which isn't a consistent number. Health insurance costs will be higher in retirement. I may even initially need 10-15% more than my current take home because I no longer have a 40 hour job. I assume my fun spending will decrease over the decades. Have you calculated what you need or want to spend?
  8. I hadn’t heard this story where Clayborn was knocked down with one punch by a NFL reporter, Will McDonough, in the Patriots’ lockerroom. I’m going to guess that he took some grief from his teammates and opposing teams. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTFJLeJAM/
  9. In trumps defense, he has had people that have paid to be his advisor but the two may have never met.
  10. Totally shocked over here that so many right influencers were taking money from Russia to be pro Russian. I’m sure that they will all feign ignorance and that it’s only a coincidence that their views were pro Russian while accepting all of that money.
  11. Yeah, I wouldn’t go too overboard with more than 6-9 months of expenses saved, based on your age. With you and your wife working, I would assume a low risk of both of you losing your jobs. Perhaps if you want to pay cash for your next car, you can save the excess cash for that. Otherwise start pushing funds into a post tax brokerage account. I have 20 years on you and I wish I had regularly contributed in this manner. And while it’s not a huge $ difference you might want to look at moving some/all of the HYSA funds into a 9-12 month CD to get ~5%. HYSA rates are quietly dropping. You might earn a couple hundred over that time for no risk.
  12. I can’t recall the exact details but I saw a short form documentary about these underemployed men in WV. When asked if they were open to school or healthcare jobs, their answer was hell no. Maybe the filmmaker edited the video to support his narrative but it was believable. whats completely backwards is how so many of these voters now support the billionaire class and many are anti-union at the macro level. Perhaps they hope some crumbs will fall to them.
  13. Some men, old or young, are susceptible to believing the loudest, most confidence voice in the room. If you tell them that football team X will win by 21 tonight, or that Biden is working to give your job to a illegal alien, they are prone to accept that as truth. And act on it. Many men also work in male dominated fields. At the end of daily safety meeting, why wouldn't you believe your boss who says that the Dems will destroy your industry. And he heard it from his boss the day before. I imagine these are daily talks in the O&G fields. Those with critical thinking skills may recognize that the facts don't match the rhetoric but also why wouldn't you vote for Trump and his drill, baby, drill mantra.
  14. Great point. If you are contributing to your 401k in your last year of work, it's not just about the limited growth of those contributions in those last few months. It's easy for anyone to focus on the balance as of that last day of work. Unless of course someone is flipping their entire retirement into an annuity which I've never seen recommended. That last year could 10x by the time you spend it.
  15. The DOJ needs to offer up some level of immunity or decreased sentencing guidelines for those willing to turn themselves in. Of course that also requires them to come clean with any information they have about others being there as well. I don't want to see these traitors get off scot free but instead offer them an incentive to save some effort. I don't expect 1000s or even 100s to surrender but I bet that some surrender who would have never been caught otherwise.
  16. I'm not following. Say someone has $1m (or 2 or 3) in a 401k or IRA. They withdraw 3% per year and increase it roughly by inflation rates each subsequent years. In a down year, you're saying that someone should borrow from their whole life plan (is that permanent?) to replenish the account balance? I thought the point of the low withdrawal rate (3-4%) was to handle the downturns without long term problems except in very unlucky situations of multi-year downturns especially in the beginning years. Or are you saying that someone with the whole life backup, could bump up to >5% withdrawal? When I see the high premiums for whole life, it doesn't make sense to me. AFLAC is showing a rough estimate of $450/month for a 30 year old to get $500K in coverage. Put the $450 into the market and you would have over ~$1M at 65. Instead you have a whole life policy only worth $500K.
  17. @AnTiM And who sent you an email regarding the charge? The company charging you or Discover? And what departments did you speak with? The only charge that confuses me every year is the one from Surly. At certain points the charge had a name that wasn't Surly and I would immediately flag it as an unauthorized charge.
  18. The GOP loves themselves former Navy SEALs. By just seeing that Sheehy is ~40 and looks to be in decent shape, I knew that he was selected as a candidate because he was a former Navy SEAL. A quick google validated that though. They look to create the image and then find the guy, who fits that image, to get the spot. 2024's Brady Bunch Johnny Bravo .
  19. You know it's a slow news day when news sites have an article for the death of a relatively unknown actor. You will see a headline link for "Happy Days actor passes away" or something like that. Then they mention that the actor was in 1 episode. The editor got you to click which was the point.
  20. The whole life sales team always say there scenarios where whole life is the best but I've never seen them produce a listing. Presumably if they list those scenarios, then it can be refuted or pointed out that most customers don't fit those scenarios.
  21. Trump only sees the down ballot candidates as a money maker for him. If they want his endorsement, they need to give him money. Usually by renting out a Trump facility. Pay extra and get a tweet. Pay even more and you get a photo opportunity. There will be zero money in the other direction.
  22. That actually makes sense especially if Cornyn is considering retirement. I imagine that she's nowhere as toxic in Texas as she is in AZ. Hasn't Cornyn previously announced that he's seeking to replace McConnell as GOP leader in January? That doesn't sound like a guy looking to retire.
  23. y'all talking about defined benefit or contribution?
  24. Not that I would be surprised but is this a Trump account?
  25. Any honest, historical review of Christianity will identify plenty of Christians and their organizations who do not follow the New Testament and Christ. They use the Bible to justify mistreatment of others to their own benefit but cover themselves with righteousness. obviously they are people who truly follow the teachings of Christ as well.
