  1. PhD from a diploma mill? Bet she requires colleagues to refer to her as Doctor. For all of his judgements against him, I was thinking that he would be destitute but does anyone know if he can protect any retirement assets from the legal judgements?
  2. More common in newer neighborhoods after they cut down every tree during development. I believe it’s effectively impossible to bury the lines in existing neighborhoods.
  3. Hurricane 6:30pm just flew thru Houston. News reporting that 80-100 mph winds. I believe it with the trees down around me.
  4. Giuliani seems to be at the point that he’s not worried about civil suits because he can’t pay them back in 10 lifetimes. And for any criminal case, he might just be looking to delay delay delay. And then eventually claim health problems that keep him from helping in his defense, inability to be on court, etc.
  5. Sorry to hear Yotta is having problems. Thought it was a cool idea but removed my money a year ago. To me they appeared to underperform HYSAs and I would only check the app/balance once or twice per month. The game aspect started to bore me, so I left to pursue higher yields elsewhere.
  6. We like to think that shady dealings and unethical behavior is in Congress. Nah. The worst of the worst are with politicians who only need a few hundred or a few thousand to win their seat. I can’t imagine that any govt level breaks more rules and laws than school boards. They often have the least amount of media coverage as well to keep them somewhat honest.
  7. I’m sure Paxton will be helpful in assisting the media in obtaining those records. I can’t see a valid reason that any Texas school tax funds are flowing to an out of state school/headquarters. stories like this will be child’s play if Abbott has his way with vouchers. Millions if not billions will flow into private investors. Our kids will graduate high school thinking the earth is 4,000 years old, and Jesus grew up with a pet dinosaur.
  8. The hits keep coming. Cy-Fair, Texas' 3rd largest school district just banned teachers from teaching that vaccines have saved lives from smallpox, polio and COVID. Climate change is forbidden to be spoken. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/columnists/tomlinson/article/school-board-christian-nationalist-purge-19450783.php How I think of myself in Texas.
  9. Miles came out defending his old charter school system. He says that the Texas schools only transferred funds to pay for the corporate services, and that the HQ was in Colorado. Everything according to him is legal. It wouldn't surprise me if the laws are grey when it comes to charter school (mis)management. It's very possible that they are allowed to transfer reasonable funds to an out of state corporate office and that our representatives purposefully let reasonable be undefined. Weirdly Miles is standing on fact that he hadn't worked for the charter school as an exec/employee in over a year. Of course he's been a consultant with them since he's had the HISD top job.
  10. You need to be exceptional at several skills to make the NBA at 6'1". I'm unsure that Bronny is exceptional at anything. I will give him credit that a 40 inch vertical leap is in the upper level of most NBA players but he was average at best at the speed drills. Short, slow SG who can jump out of the gym but may just be an average shooter. That's the definition of the guy who is does well at the local gym. Still I guess that he will be drafted because the team drafting him is basically drafting LeBron for a year or two. Or worst case, you draft Bronny and then immediately trade him for a player greater than the draft spot.
  11. some links are worth double posts. That was one of them.
  12. Imagine standing up at a graduation, for a school with 52% female students, and telling the women graduates congrats on their academic successes but it's time for you to support your husband by being a housewife. Congrats on spending >$100K for a wasted education. but then again, I only heard applause in the video I watched.
  13. @HenryJames great link from the Texas Tribune. I encourage others to read it if only to reinforce what you already know about the far right extremists. People threatening school board members with weapons in public meetings? These people just don't want books taken out of the library, they want a Christian dictatorship. Related article, also from the Tribune. The same reformed school board member claims how the west Texas billionaires are funding candidates, like her former self, to further the voucher debate. https://www.texastribune.org/2024/05/15/texas-tim-dunn-wilks-brothers-vouchers-courtney-gore/ Which makes sense. Their rhetoric and extremist school board members erode faith in public schools on both sides of the aisle. And they can't have one of their candidates say the emperor has no clothes.
  14. The first wave of passionate revolutionists are often tossed aside by the second wave. I recall in my Russian history class at UT how the Soviet purges often jailed/killed the original Bolsheviks because they finally had their eyes opened to the truth of their leaders as frauds. Not that I will care but time will prove how even MTG will get thrown to the wolves by her current supporters.
  15. From some critiques I watched, Bronny had a subpar day in the combine in the scrimmages. Lebron can get trainers to help Bronny succeed with jumping and shooting drills but his game is still not ready for heavy college minutes.
  16. Sounds like the Humble school board was hoping that she would get the other job and resign. When that didn’t happen today they had to act. But she still works there, and I bet she gets paid even more when they eventually fire her or convince her to accept a settlement. People don’t leave a 300k salary without a fight.
  17. I imagine that all of republicans in attendance are being ordered there by Trump. My bet is that it's a hung jury. There has to be one Trumpist on the jury that will refuse to budge regardless of the facts presented to them. I hope that I'm wrong.
  18. take credit for any "win" but losses are at the local or federal level. And when locals try to take control, he passes law taking the power out of their hands.
  19. A problem with organizing the Houston/Harris vote is that there is no organization. While I'm sure that Harris and even Texas have a Democrat party, I don't know if either does anything other than small grass root efforts. They don't appear to have a budget or spokespeople to lead an drive. Beto is still the main Democrat voice in Texas especially because he can still get booked on national news/talk shows. Hidalgo probably has the pull to get some attention but she hasn't pursued that option. I'm unsure that widespread public speaking is her strength.
  20. interesting analysis that shows how the suburbs of the big counties are experiencing the growth this decade. Lot of dark green in the counties surrounding the large population counties. https://kinder.rice.edu/urbanedge/harris-county-grows-suburbs-see-big-change
  21. Harris County is not like Travis or Dallas counties in being a strong Democrat base. Harris county is also heavy with suburban voters who are very GOP. We're not going north of 60% in favor of the democrat candidate.
  22. no one is saying that he would be drafted on his own merits. He also wouldn't have been at USC if his last name wasn't James. Not to mention that LeBron can get Bronny the coaching and training to prepare him for the combine. Like with all sports, athletes now hyper-prepare for the combine just to put up incredible numbers. It's not a stretch to think that LeBron as the all-time best, or at least in the discussion, can get his son into the NBA. The guy at the end of the bench doesn't contribute much during games so why not give that spot to Bronny. Bronny is going to face criticism from the away fans at every stop but I bet that LeBron is pushing him because LeBron is ready to call it quits but wants at least 1 season with his son.
  23. Bronny is performing well at the NBA Combine. He might just find himself being drafted because someone has to be drafted this year. And while better college players might go undrafted, why take a college player who had 18 Ppg when Bronny gives you press and the potential to get LeBron. and does it change the Lakers win total if they keep the current 12th man or draft Bronny? (to be clear, Bronny does not deserve to be drafted based on his history but who said the NBA was a meritocracy?)
  24. Texas tax dollars are funding charter schools in Colorado? It never occurred to me that these charter schools are part of companies that go across borders and it’s only an accounting function to move money around. it should be a criminal act of their leaders to steal tax dollars in that manner.
  25. I keep reading stories, no links, about Houston area school districts having to cut staff because of budget constraints. But we were told that the new property tax laws weren't going to impact the education of our children. That lie didn't last 1 year. It's almost like it was the goal of one party to decimate public education so that the masses would turn towards private education which has the ability to indoctrinate kids regarding religion and their stance on cultural issues. but that couldn't be the truth, right?
