  1. Have mixed feelings about Turner. I agree with some of his stances in Houston especially how he fought the firefighters on compensation. The city overwhelming voted for fire dept pay increases but while simultaneously asking for property tax decreases. Mainly Turner kicked the can down the road on many of Houston's tough issues but so does every mayor in almost every city.
  2. Turner can easily justify continuing after one term. He will only need to claim that retiring was 100% his plan but that the good people of the district begged him to stay. And in that case he will sacrifice his retirement to serve them.
  3. https://kfor.com/news/local/u-s-news-osde-denied-access-to-data-skewing-oklahoma-school-rankings/
  4. It was basically 70-30. While he definitely favored Hillary, it’s not like 30% is a massive underdog.
  5. I don’t know about all of these rankings but US News uses students’ AP scores in grading a state’s and even individual school’s rankings. Not by student name of course. It’s a large part of the ranking by determining college readiness the Oklahoma state board of education told US News to f-off when US News asked twice for permission to have the scores sent to them. The ranking ultimately gave Oklahoma a 0 for 30% of the scoring. Oklahoma really showed them US News commies. normally states and school district like to do whatever is possible to pump up their rankings. OK took a unique approach.
  6. SIAP. Trump telling Elon that any striking worker should be fired. I would love to see the reaction of the blue collar, union voters in Ohio, who plan to vote for Trump.
  7. note to self: if I'm going to double dip two jobs, make sure one of them isn't a job involving politics.
  8. CyFair ISD offering Bible electives starting next year: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/education/article/concerns-raised-busing-bible-focused-electives-19628825.php Can a Bible textbook be outdated in a year? I suppose it doesn't mention the glorious return of the Bible loving Donald Trump to lead us to salvation.
  9. FYI, trying to clear a blockage at the lowest point of a pipe can lead to a big mess. You may have a gallon of stagnant water and algae built up behind the blockage. Make sure you a bucket when the blockage clears. Nasty stuff.
  10. The story reads like the company leaders and investors were all finance people that wanted to play-act as CEO and the board. They had zero idea what they were doing outside of burning through investor funds. The bigger fools are the ones who gave them money. From what I can tell, JD Vance has the same playbook as a politician. No business being in his position but capitalizing on it. But damned if he hasn't put himself in a position to be President.
  11. So many people are going to prison for Trump and most likely he will never spend a minute in jail. I wonder how long it takes the average MAGAt in prison to wake up to this reality how they were conned.
  12. Starbucks fired their 1-year tenure CEO this morning. Replaced him with the Chipotle CEO. SBUX up 23% I've actually rediscovered Starbucks as an ok coffee shop again over the past 6 months. I can actually find a place to park and even sit if I want to for a few minutes. I had previously stopped going when it turned into a 15+ minute wait for my order. When driving to work, I can't have that long of a wait. While I like that as a customer, that must not be good for the bottom line.
  13. Elon gets Trump elected, Trump will buy millions of Teslas for the govt, and give NASA to Elon.
  14. Good luck. You will find that over time, it's natural for dementia patients to move into a smaller living space. Sadly their world gets smaller and smaller. Having her live in a place she likes is great, especially if she can make friends. You want her to have to desire to get up and move everyday.
  15. Spot on where the problem may lie for many. Another great option to clear the pipe is using a shop vac. Make a good seal with the shop vac to that pipe going up to the AC unit. Some nasty crap will get pulled into the shop vac. shop vacs run $75-100 at Home Depot. Good to have a shop vac on hand with water problems. Before reconnecting, see if water is correctly flowing down from the open pipe, near the drip pan. I think it’s good for the average homeowner to go through this issue once so they’re aware of the low maintenance to prevent it.
  16. CNN exposé on Vance’s less-than-stellar investing company. Good fit with Trump on business failures. https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/13/politics/kentucky-startup-appharvest-jd-vance/index.html main part of the story of a Kentucky ag company that Vance’s investment company partially owned and Vance was on the board. The company sounds to be a large greenhouse operation. They failed after new investment money dried up. they eventually had to turn to Central American contract workers. I read this as undocumented workers that the company could claim ignorance of their immigration status. One anecdote has Sen. McConnell touring the facility AFTER they sent the Hispanic workers early for the day.
  17. That’s infuriating when a local news goes full partisan like this. if they want to devote the time to talk about the accusations, like AI pics, of one side towards the other, that’s an acceptable story. However you have to work towards the story ending on the truth. Word must be coming down from senior Fox (murdochs) that Trump is in trouble. At least that part is good that they believe it.
  18. To be fair, those weeds look really tall.
  19. But he looks to be working towards going after hospitals who treat illegal immigrants. It's only a matter of time.
  20. Yep. It's GOP 25-13 in Congress for Texas, counting SJL's seat as Democrat. In 2022, the GOP received 58% of the congress votes in Texas but own 65% of the seats themselves. If completely fair, the breakdown of seats should be 22-16 for the GOP. And if really fair, I would expect higher Dem voting to be closer to create a GOP 20-18.
  21. Good catch. Hunt in the 14th. NW Houston. There are a surprising number of Houston area Republicans in Congress. They do a great job of cracking a blue county even though some of the seats I mentioned are in other counties as well.
  22. Aren't there just a few seats in the general Houston area winnable by a republican? 2nd (NE Houston) - Crenshaw 8th (North of Houston) - Morgan Luttrell (I had no idea Marcus Luttrell's brother is in Congress. Replaced the retiring Brady.) 10th (West of Houston) - McCaul 14th (Freeport-Galveston-Port Arthur) - Weber 22nd (Rosenberg) - Nehls I'm unsure where Ogg could think she could fit into any of these districts. Either the GOPer ain't going anywhere or the district wouldn't like Ogg.
  23. In the spirit of generosity, Truth Social earns $4m in revenue per year. A few google searches tell me that a high traffic convenience store earns between $2 and $5m in revenue per year. As a reminder, Truth Social has a market cap of $5B. Then again, the Silicon Valley tv show on HBO taught us that you want to be pre-revenue. Trump screwed up by building a site that earns revenue.
  24. He's scared if he's willing to dump his exclusivity with Trump Social or whatever it's called. Let's see if he trip back to Twitter is short lived just due to his talk with Elon today.
