  1. english. If you switch over to the NEW side, they'll inspect your stuff. Stay on the old, you are good.
  2. Pat's is good. For some reason it usually gets skipped in our dining out. And parking there this time of year can suck big time - the lot is fairly small and they have a few street permits you can borrow, but if those are all gone and it's full. SOL. The view at Gristmill is nice, the food I sometimes take issue with and we have had some legendary f'ups with service there in the past that have tainted our view.
  3. Man, I must be a wizard or something. Of course, what the workers have been told is that they are doing a great job and the new owners aren't going to change anything except invest money to make it better. But I'm pretty sure they will bring in some of their own people to evaluate things.
  4. You can pack in. Local places to eat: We are at Los Gallos for tacos a couple of times, at least, a week. You'll see a couple of big ol blond hair boys probably working the register and drive through. They are the owners. Tell them Sam says hi. You will want to order only 1 taco unless you are a giant. Their tortillas are unbelievably big. We've been there before when a touron orders 3 tacos for himself, we snicker, the food comes, and their table goes "holey shit" because 3 tacos there will feed an army. I have a group of auslanders that get together for a stammtisch breakfast at Krause's every couple of weeks. Their breakfast prices are quite reasonable - my usual go to has been the breakfast sandwich on a house bun with bacon and egg over medium. But lately I've started getting the 1 egg omelet (it has at least 2 or 3) with cheddar and house fries or hashbrowns. Lunch and dinner are also good and they have music about 4 times a week. I will forewarn you that the service sometimes sucks and the kitchen can be slow AF. I know this going in, I have multiple waitresses who know our order and I don't seem to have near the problems others do but I do hear a lot of complaints about them. Skip The Gristmill and eat at their sister joint Mozie's across the street. Great burgers. Pro tip: If going to listen to someone in Gruene Hall, order ahead some garlic fries at Mozie's, pick them up and carry them into the hall. Other good places to eat are Freiheit (the burgers), McAdoo's (seafood - fondue rocks), Clear Springs (fried catfish and what not, suprisingly the burgers kick ass). Burgers at Lone Star Float House are good and the view doesn't suck. Same thing with the Float In. Another good breakfast spot is Granny D's up by Canyon Lake. And across the street from Granny D's is Mrs. Bush's Pies. Mrs. Bush may be a little bit on the peculiar side but her pies are legit. Maybe grab some breakfast at Texas' oldest bakery, Naeglin's. </New_Braunfels_Biggest_Supporter> If you have any other local questions, fire away. Oh, and if you are staying in the old side... you do know that you can bring alcohol into the park. Just pour it into Yeti cups etc and noones the wiser. Now if you switch over to the old side, they'll inspect your stuff. But since your room is inside the gates of the old side, there is no inspection.
  5. Wanna place bets they also get that in the future in prison?
  6. That looks like a hell of a sandwhich. It also looks somewhat inedible as a sandwhich, I just see shit falling apart all over the place on me.
  7. Four former La Vernia High School students previously charged with sexual assault in connection with an athletics hazing scandal exposed in 2017 have now been indicted on new charges more than two years later. You sick little monkey.
  8. That's right, now I remember where I had heard of this place before. What is in the water in Waco that causes these compounds to go all wacky.
  9. We visited my wife's sister one time up in podunk Texas and had to go to church with them at the sbc. Only time I can remember that I've ever been in a service at an sbc. Preacher got up and started praying, and praying, thank you lord jesus, on and on, praying praying. He said thank you lord jesus for about the 100th time and my good methodist son yells out "Still?". SBC will starve you to.
  10. So yeah. My second cousin texted me today and I called her back. She found one of mom's phone numbers and finally got through. She caught up with her, it's been a few years since they have talked, and then moved onto mentioning that she had done Ancestry blah blah and then mentioned she had found a second cousin named me. And mom got really quiet and then just said no. Apparently my half brother's wife had in fact read my facebook message and talked to her and she told her it must be a scam. So for now, mom doesn't want any contact and has asked that I not contact her family (I mean technically, my family too, but whatever. I can discuss that with a shrink later). I told the second cousin, who has been amazing in all this, that I'll respect her wishes and to let mom know that if she ever wants my contact information, that she has it and can give it to her. Sometimes pandora's box wins. Sometimes you win. This time the box won. At least I know a LOT more about that side than I did before. And, the bright side, my second cousin is back in touch with mom. So that's something good to come out of it.
  11. Here's the link where you can rent at the compound in NB. There are a virtual shit ton of houses on that property, along with a virtual fuck ton of trash. You can google cloud lane new braunfels and see some of what was there, then they added in all the shit from the old NBGS office on 35 @ 337 and really junked up the place.
  12. Schlitterbahn New Braunfels to be sold as part of $261 million agreement And another article mentioned that Cedar Fair can buy the now shuttered Kansas park for $6 million. I've read that Schlitterbahn has a $190 million mortgage on Kansas and NB/Galveston are the collateral. Somehow I don't see the Henry's walking away with $261 clear and free. The Henrys will still own South Padre and rebrand it. As I understand it, that was always Jeff's baby and I think he's been living there and not the compound outside of NB lately.
  13. This. Charles will be king someday, just won't be for long. Of course, there is something in the blood of that family that makes them seem to live forever. Blasted Elizabeth I lived till 101. Elizabeth II still kicking pretty strongly at 93. Her 3rd cousin/husband 98.
  14. "A body was found Wednesday morning in Lake Pflugerville, near to where a kayaker was washed away during a severe thunderstorm on Sunday," Yep. That's what my highly scientific study of previous drownings said, right where she sunk.
  15. I don't know that there is as much demand for former monarch residences as there is for one's still in use by an existant monarch. And I like having the queen. Them being there, or not, doesn't change my life one bit. But it is a tie back to the good ol days. And she makes a fine Head of State.
  16. I don't know how it works in big storms but every time we lose one on the Guadalupe or Canyon Lake, they always seem to be right where they went under. Its amazing, the Guadalupe can be flowing 350cfs, but the body is usually right there. On top.. things float for miles. Sink immediately and they don't move. Course, there may be a problem with drunk drowning on the Guadalupe if I've figures this out.
  17. So far, no response. I've msged all the people I can find and included a fairly detailed story. I'm letting my second cousin work her angles for a bit - I mean, they know she is related to them so maybe they'll respond to her. Always fun to just pop up with "Hi, you probably don't know I exist, but I'm related to you. Suprise!" Eventually one of them will come around. I know my half brother's wife saw my first msg to her, according to FB msger. Eventually I'll start dialing some of the numbers I believe belong to my mother/step father/half brother. But that's going to be after a long wait.
  18. There's thousands of DNA threads on here but I'll update this one since I've posted on it before. I had a 2nd cousin reply to me on Ancestry, she was VERY open with information. Her family is the one my bio mom stayed with when she was pregnant. This lady knew the church and preacher my adopted parents were friends with.. gave me the name and everything so she is 100% spot on. Based on data from her, I think found a findagrave page with my grandmother's info on it and it had her entire family tree including my mother, her brothers, their families and my half brother. From that, I've now found on facebook and contacted an aunt, cousins and half brother and we are waiting on them to process and reply. And since my second cousin lost contact with them, I can also put her in touch with them and she can vouch for me (although DNA is 100% vouch so I need some of them to do it). Can o worms, baby. Can o worms. And I'm sure the story with my mom is just going to be all roses and nothing tragic at all like my father - yeah right.
  19. My pictures in this thread can back up how many times I've been there and I've never known them to sell out. We got the bbq pork belly last time, fantastic. And I'm a big fan of their hatch mac and cheese. Michael and Asenette are really good people.
  20. No slight, but why would he need to clear something with you that people have been doing at home on their own for years?
  21. The Texas certainly smells better than the Lexington. That fuel oil smell from the Lexington is unforgettable.
