  1. I thought JV could have come back out for the 7th but with as good and deep as our bullpen is, I was ok with taking him out too.  Until he lost it for that stretch in the 5th, it was looking like he could have gone 8 or 9.  He was only at 33 pitches through 3 and 48 through 4.

The fad is to pull your starter after 3 or 4 innings (and for the media to kill managers who don't) but I think a huge key to our success the past 2 years is that our starters are going deeper than anyone's.  Last year part of that was by necessity as the bullpen guys faltered but there is a ton of benefit from the traditional model.  I think the combination of fatigue and overexposure killed the Dodgers pen last year and the same thing will happen to Milwaukee this year, likely this round but if not in the WS.

Reading this thread, one would think Sam in the offense is VY part 2, while ignoring Tulsa, K-state, Maryland.

Yeah, the offense yesterday wasn't appreciably worse than in those games.  Especially if you compare the 2nd halves only.

I think taking advantage of Mike Stoops's incompetence is influencing some people a little bit too much.

  3. Beuchele was sacked once today and it was no self sack it was a goddamn jail break.

He had one play were he stepped up in the pocket when pressured and converted a 3rd down on a completion to beck.

He looked rusty to me and definitely didn't play well overall.  There were a couple of throws that seemed to be in the area where the intended receiver never looked for the ball - not sure who was at fault.
