I would have thought there would be some kind of permit required? It basically turned into punk rock Pecan Street Festival. Oh, I did get to see the most pretentious insufferable band I've ever heard an hour or so earlier: "fantasy of a broken heart" out of (you guessed it) Brooklyn. Spoilered for sanity:
  2. Fun fact: 15 years ago today Texas was tabbed an 8 seed in the NCAA tournament. Earlier that year we were ranked #1 at 17-0, but finished the rest of the season 7-9. Oh yeah, we lost in the 1st round to 9 seed Wake Forest.

13th Floor. Every band but the headliner (ahem) played inside. DS played on the sidewalk, and approximately one billion people swarmed Red River, forcing the cops to shut it down for a couple of blocks. I was stage left, so it didn't affect me, but I imagine other clubs etc. were pissed. Photo shot by a friend doesn't really capture the mess, but it's all I have:
  4. 64.7 to 57.9 in a month sounds bad. Is that bad?
  5. I'm a decent driver, but those shoulder-less construction zones terrify me. I seem to get caught next to a semi going 70 mph a little too often. I'd get squashed like a bug if they swerved.
  6. Four kids in a van, starting out at 1 AM some 100 miles north of NYC, straight shot to Austin will take some years off your life. I just use "FindMy" on the iPhone.

That outdoor "stage" created a giant clusterfuck. Red River was shut down, and I don't think that was part of the plan.
  8. Yeah, and he had Alberts shoved on him, several years after taking the job.
  9. Austin sports radio guys were saying this morning that Buzz hates Trev Alberts, as did Schloss. Further flavor: I didn't realize A&M couldn't land Skip Johnson to replace Schloss because of that very reason, too. Alberts may turn out to be the most disastrous hire in A&M history, and that INCLUDES Jimbo.
  10. I'm surprised he didn't say it anyway. I've seen MAGAts blame Obama for being asleep at the switch on 9/11. 2001. Obama. This country is fucked.
  11. My stepdaughter and her 10 YO son were less than 5 minutes ahead of that mess, coming home from Round Rock. I went to bed before they got home, and when I saw the push on my phone in the middle of the night my heart sank. I ran outside to confirm her car was in the driveway, and it was.
  12. Nah, this is (or was) a Springfield 11.

These guys were GREAT at 13th Floor. Some of the other bands, not so much. Snotty garage rock, tight as hell, somewhere between Oasis and The Stooges.
  14. Is there a key somewhere that differentiates between an "ember zone" and a "proximity zone"?
  15. Now this is a thinking man.
  16. Surely DOGE will get to the bottom of the spurious flights to Cuba and put a halt to them post haste.
  17. Well, I laughed. Huge props to whoever came up with that name.
  18. As I alluded, he's now 51:
  19. I found Looch's bio, which is incredibly cringe-worthy, not to mention devoid of prescience. Spoilered for length.
  20. If I'm cooking them, I'll sometimes use the frozen diced onions or frozen "fajita vegetables" (onions + red/green peppers) from HEB. I can't tell the difference in a sauce. They cost a bit more than fresh, but no prep. I don't know why they don't have a frozen mire poix (onions, carrots, celery). Seems obvious.
  21. Not too late, but she should probably pick a sport or two and play select. Find a coach who has placed kids in college and listen to what that coach has to say. I saw too many "seventeen D1 head coaches will be at this soccer tournament" that had zero actual reach to believe many club coaches know what they're doing. And, go to camps at schools she's interested in by end of soph or early junior year. This stuff moves fast. I know the trepidation -- club sports cost money. It doesn't always have to be horrible, but we paid ~ $400 for gear and something like ~ $300 monthly, and that was cheap, especially for the quality of club.
  22. Yeah, the talking point I hear from the rank and file is "somebody has to protect our girls". Nothing about trans boys. And, as others have said, it's a tiny fraction of athletes. I'm pretty sure there could be a reasonable science-based standard that would level the playing field, but that's not the agenda.
  23. So nobody is pushing Acie Law? BLASPHEMY.
