  1. I'm pretty sure those view corridors have been largely ignored for a couple of decades.
  2. UNT is outstanding, especially for jazz. Brutally competitive school. "Whiplash" was bullshit, but the competition to get into the top band(s) (especially the One O'Clock band) is nuts. World class players.
  3. I wasn't speaking to a kid who wants to major in music and become a band director. That's a completely different thing.
  4. I also did that dad volunteer thing one year, and was put on field as one of the people who push those props around during the show. I will admit, I got a little nostalgic that first show. It had been a minute since I'd actually been on field.
  5. Well, he was crowing about the recruiting rankings a week or so ago, but those rankings have now flipped because of our last 3 commitments. I was sure Graham would provide an update. I sure hope he's doing OK.
  6. Sigh. I was 100% sure you'd miss the point, and you did.
  7. I was pulled into an unpaid "volunteer" teaching position for Mac Band in 2019 since I had two kids enrolled (percussion + trumpet) and I had DCI experience. I had forgotten how much I hated those early morning HS band rehearsals.
  8. Before you go nonlinear on us, yes, Trump won the vote (theoretically). That said, his "support" is not growing. Now, I am aware that he's going to try (and likely succeed) in suspending the next election. But he has really shitty approval ratings.
  9. No updates on how A&M is lapping Texas on the recruiting trail? That's weird.
  10. Whoa. Try the decaf. I was agreeing with you.
  11. No argument there, and if a kid grew up wanting to play The Eyes then obviously the USC band (or whatever) is going to be a poor substitute.
  12. I think that's a reasonable take when it comes to in-state connections. I also see a shit-ton of people talking about getting the hell out of Texas, so I'm not sure if UT band has that much leverage at that point. My point, to reiterate, as a high level HS marching band and high level DCI nerd -- strongly consider whether it defines your college choice.
  13. Regarding the band influence: there is no college marching band that's anywhere near the top of the "marching arts". It doesn't matter if your kid is at UT, tOSU, UDub, Colorado, whatever. (A&M is a weird anomoly and worse.) I'm not saying don't do band, but I would strongly suggest you try to disabuse your kid of the idea that the particular school matters. You get to play your instrument, learn some drill, meet a bunch of other mostly nerds, and have a great time. That's cool. There really isn't any source of pride other than self-inflated when it comes to the different schools.
  14. That's not a bad point, but I would say that fans expected an NC run, and if we fell short (as we did) the narrative would have been "why the hell did Sark go with the kid"?
  15. I've never seen a legendary coach get as prickly as Saban in the game where Colt got hurt. He absolutely knew his team was about to get throttled and he could not handle it. I haven't seen Sark do that, and certainly not in the first half. Saban shit himself and got bailed out by his left end. History changed at that moment.
  16. Now name a coach who doesn't have in game idiosyncracies.
  17. I don't give a flying fuck about what Nick Saban would do. He's a pansy in game when things go south. Sark isn't. Every coach has their strengths and weaknesses. "Loyalty" isn't necessarily a weakness, it helps build trust. You people should know better, but apparently I'm overestimating you. It's a giant amalgamation of personalities, tendencies, strategies, tactics, finance, charisma, you name it, but you diptshits zero in on one thing that you don't even know is true and decide "well, that fucked us". Grow up.
  18. You do understand there is some upside to that characteristic, right?
  19. CLOWN! Drink! Ana is killing my liver.
  20. Well, the death toll hasn't been reported as having gone up. I'm going to assume those "missing" are alive.
  21. Finally, some good news. Kerr County has revised the number missing from over 160 down to 3. It's not entirely clear by the reporting how many of those no longer missing are actually alive, but they haven't revised the death toll upward, so I assume most of them were simply not in the area when the floods hit. We'll see.
  22. I don't think Liberty DeVitto has much to bitch about regarding getting fired. He played on every album and original tour to my knowledge. There was a songwriting dispute. Oh, and his daughter is a mildly well known actress:
