  1. That just sends everyone to the parking lot for 30 minutes. No bueno. Well, except for the beer.
  2. For those who don't know:
  3. We're talking engineering here. 5% error ain't nothing.
  4. Thanks for the tip, Ned Beatty.
  5. You can polish a turd, turn it into a small sculpture of a newt if you want to, but in the end it's still a turd.
  6. See, I'd call that "Company". <ducks>
  7. I'm hardly a politico or conlaw expert, but I would think a natural byproduct of "checks and balances" would be the occasional clash between branches.
  8. He didn't even make it into Blinn. EDIT: man, you gotta be fast around here
  9. Complete disregard for the rules is not excusable just because the rules were subsequently changed. Being a no-ethics shitbag at Baylor is just laughable (although ironically on brand).
  10. Hey, pendulum boy, it works pretty well up to about 30 deg.
  11. The stories behind that album are terrifying. Hundreds of bits of 2" tape stuck to the walls, waiting to be reassembled into a new arrangement/mix/etc. Oh hell no.
  12. I am completely comfortable with my personal court of opinion taking the many women at face value. I'm not a cop, I'm not a prosecutor. I believe he did it, and I don't have to ascribe to some high standard to hold that belief.
  13. I can know that it's OK to think a dude is a piece of shit if he rubs his boner on a legit masseuse and then jizzes everywhere. I don't care how well he sings or how much good he does for the community or how well he kicks a ball, it's the other stuff that makes him a piece of shit. This isn't a plus/minus net calculation.
  14. But he's a Wharton grad! Pennsylvanians love him!
  15. Color me shocked that a lady who lives 100 miles from Canada feels more aligned with their people than those Mexicans who are 1800 miles away.
  16. Fill me in . . . they have a Grupo guy who produced one record, right? Who else? EDIT: never mind, I'm being stupid. I read the bill wrong. I thought those listed with The Point were playing separate sets.
  17. Good Looks has been needing some good luck . . . good for them. My daughter was in the McCallum Fine Arts Academy with the two guys behind The Point. (She actually dated one of them.) They're pretty adventurous and talented musicians, I'll be interested to see if they keep growing from here.
  18. Don't do it.
  19. Probably not. Depends on who's performing, I guess. Is there a list out?
  20. Another issue with early digital was the sampling rate, which was initially set at 44.1 kHz. Nyquist theory demands that there be no signal content above half the sampling frequency, as otherwise spurious noise will alias back into the audible frequency range (20 Hz - 20 kHz). Thus, extreme filtering had to be performed to remove content at or above 22.05 kHz, BUT not below 20 kHz. There was just no room to work and those filters sounded like shit. Bumping that sampling rate to 48 kHz helped a bit, and 96 kHz alleviated the problem. CDs are still printed at a 44.1 Hz sampling rate, but oversampling and other tricks resulted in near elimination of those harsh EQ filters. Still, they put "digital" in a bad light early on and led to all sorts of silly and incorrect explanations for bad sound (stairstepping, etc.).
