  1. Damn Robert's voice sounds fantastic. I wonder how many of those guys still think "holy shit I'm in a band with Robert Plant!". EDIT: see, for instance, the smile on the bass player's face at 1:40.
  2. I'm a mechanical engineer but I don't do HVAC. It seems to me this is the right angle of pursuit. Vents are incorporated for a variety of reasons, but energy efficiency (keeping the attic cool, etc.) are a big part of that. Personally, I feel like my not-quite-as-cool attic is a better choice than attic-on-fire.
  3. Which 5 are they likely to beat us in?
  4. We've been slammed by 0.14" since 11 PM. The drought is over!
  5. @TwiceHorn obviously knows the details, but I do believe there is some requirement to defend one's IP. I recall a college/HS kerfluffle where the college ended up licensing their mark for $1/year or some such. I guess that legally dotted the i's and crossed the t's.
  6. Regardless of the "words first" nature of trademark protection. those logos don't look all that similar to me. One's a beaver, one's a dog. If the logo is secondary to the language, and there is no associated language, this just feels like corporate bullying.
  7. I'm well aware. I'm just citing the rule of thumb proposed by the National Fire Academy. Take it up with them.
  8. I looked into the amount of water required to put out a house fire. It turns out the National Fire Academy has developed a simple rule of thumb: gallons = square footage divided by 3. So, a typical 1800 sf house would require 600 gallons to extinguish a fire. Obviously, there is a lot of variability there. Stick a 1K gallon tank on everyone's lot, with a pump and some long hose runs. The government could potentially subsidize the cost for the homeowner, it would be akin to buying a backup generator to guard against long power outages (ahem). Let the homeowner or even firefighters deal with fighting fires, but at least there would be some infrastructure in place. Such a tank is ~ 5 ft dia and less than 7 feet tall. It's not exactly offensive looking, especially behind a fence.
  9. You know how there are periodic hurricane threats to parts of the Gulf Coast, and various local and state officials will say "we strongly encourage people in these towns to evacuate", and most do, and then the hurricane fizzles out or misses, but then one time it doesn't fizzle out or miss and most people survive but the dipshits who downplayed the threat and stayed ended up dead in the trees with 1,499 of their hurricane denying friends? Yeah.
  10. Man, they were hitting 3's even when we had a hand in their face. Give them credit. It wasn't all bad defense.
  11. No Kaluma didn't help.
  12. I missed the jump -- did we ever have a lead up until the final bucket? Nice job, regardless. Hey Rodney, put your tongue back in your mouth. Your're not MJ.
  13. Log cabins.
  14. That's great. How is the percussionist getting both kick and snare sounds?
  15. On glass? Acrylic?
  16. Yeah, this seems obvious. A single house, maybe an adjacent house or two, but at some point the water flow just isn't enough when an entire neighborhood is burning. People WANT that level of protection but they sure don't want to pay for it.
  17. If you're weirder than Grimes, then . . . damn. Parents of the Century.
  18. Actually CU is great for aerospace engineering. My cousin did his MS & PhD there and has crushed it at Lockheed-Martin. Senior Fellow & Chief Engineer, pretty much top of the tech track.
  19. My starter wife grew up in Cleveland. ~ 1996 we flew to Ohio and borrowed her parents K car for an extended vacation up through Buffalo, Niagra Falls, Boston, NYC and back to Ohio. "Holy shit" was a phrase coined to describe that car. It was simultaneously ugly, too heavy, underpowered and it handled like a wildebeast.
  20. Did anyone ever put out a decent UT-Omaha shirt?
  21. "and has shown zero contrition about making a gesture that looked exactly like a Nazi salute". NO. It WAS a Nazi salute. Gah, modern media is infuriating. Stop cutting these evil people slack.
  22. Once again, your bigotry is showing. Fuck off.
  23. My granddad made liver and onions every morning for breakfast. Man, I cannot stand liver.
  24. Go for the trifecta? I'll actually save it this time.
