Since this is becoming a catch-all "is my itinerary crazy" thread, I'll add my own question. We are going to Europe for 7-8 days in August. Wife and I both travelled a good bit when younger, but this will be the first time in Europe in 15+ yrs. Our primary destination is Paris. We have both been several times, so plan to only spend half the trip there. Goal for Paris is relaxing walks around the city and good food w/ the Orsay and Notre Dame being the only must do things. The big question is what to do with the remaining 3-4 days.
I am currently considering either Amsterdam (largely due to Eurostar from Paris and then direct flight back to Austin) or destinations in northern France (maybe Reims, Lille or both). But are there hidden jewels I am not thinking about? Is something in southern France too far afield for such a short trip? FWIW, wife is not really a history buff, so I am guessing something like Bordeaux/Arcachon is more attractive than say Normandy.
