  1. There are some ponds behind central market that are a kid friendly fishing spot. I usually take my kids to either Bull Creek or McKinney Falls.
  2. Maybe God was just using the royal we. You know, the editorial.
  3. I finally figured it out. Place I was thinking of was called Gene's. Total dive but had great fried chicken. I think it was in the building that is now Hillside Pharmacy.
  4. I was actually going to nominate Miley's "We Can't Stop" for this thread . . . but after watching some of these videos, I think she just does not belong in the thread. Definitely nuts though. And I find her friendship/collaboration with Wayne Coyne odd (see https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/jan/12/flaming-lips-wayne-coyne-on-miley-cyrus-acid-asap-rocky). That guy somehow went from being one of the coolest guys in music circa 2001 to a sad, weird creepster. His shtick is not aging well.
  5. Nubian Queen Lola's. Also, there used to be a good fried chicken place on the East side that I would frequent circa 2007-08. I think it was called Ben's, but I cant find any record of it on the interwebs. Just noticed that Bullfight closed. I recall that a few people on here held it in very high regard.
  6. You also have to buy him a birthday cake so his feelings don't get hurt
  7. I didn't know Nic's serves breakfast. Bet it is super legit.
  8. This is true. Pandora actually hires human music experts to listen to songs and map out song characteristics. Spotify (and almost everyone else) uses a machine listening technology (called EchoNest) to build playlists. I think the Pandora approach does a better job at predicting user tastes . . . but the draw back is the smaller playlists you mentioned. The machine listening approach allows for an exponentially larger catalog of songs when building playlists. Both services have on-demand features that should have nearly identical catalogs. Apple music is good too. YouTube is supposed to be revamping their services this year, and it should be better than Google's prior offerings.
  9. I think he just wants to live in the same city as his kids. I read an interview earlier this year where he indicated he would be happy to play for either Madrid team.
  10. No. The point of the Mayer example is that "talent" or technical skill playing an instrument (or singing) does not necessarily make you a talented overall musician. What matters is your ability to make music that is worth listening to. I don't discount that Stills is a talented guitarist or that Crosby has a great voice . . . they just are not the equal of Neil when it comes to an all around ability to make great music.
  11. Songwriting and the ability to convey emotion in your music count for a lot. The "sheer physicality of being a musician" is wasted if you can't convert that into compelling music. Consider John Mayer's talent on a guitar . . . its immense, but I have no interest in any of his shitty music. Neil's singing and guitar playing are raw and rich with emotion. Its why he made at least 4 or 5 solo records that are considered classics and guys like Nash and Crosby did not.
  12. What? I get that not everyone likes Neil's voice. But he was so much more talented than anyone else in that band that it is not even funny. Its not a coincidence that he was on by far their best record.
  13. Aerosmith. Just sounds like a horrible Led Zeppelin impression to me. Fleetwood Mac.
  14. Tier 1: Pearl Jam, Wilco, Nirvana Tier 2: Pumpkins, RATM, Weezer (on strength of first 2 albums) If we want to include individuals, then I would throw Jeff Buckley and Ryan Adams into the discussion as well. I don't even particularly like Nirvana, but their place and importance in rock history cannot be denied.
  15. My primary rooting interest is to see Russia fail to make it out of their rigged group. After that, pulling for Iceland. And I will probably pick another team to root for that has a legit shot but is not necessarily a favorite (so probably Belgium).
  16. I think there was a short-lived sushi place there between Dickie's and Bonhomie . . . not sure about that though.
  17. I liked Bonhomie. It was a good french option if we didn't feel like going all the way to Justine's. I had a feeling it would fail when it opened though. That is a terrible location and previous tenants failed. Same with all of the restaurants in Lamar Union. Having no parking in an area with little foot traffic seems like a problem.
  18. You cannot go wrong with any of the following: Justine's, Launderette, Musashino, Chicon, Uchiko, or Barley Swine. OP, I would say Dai Due is a cool restaurant, but may not be ideal for dates. The food is good (especially if you like wild game), but the tables are sometimes placed really close together. I have the same issue with Lenoir (which has outstanding food).
  19. I like tri-tip and think Santa Maria style grills are cool. I guess you could debate whether that qualifies as bbq, but I like it better than the pig bbq served in the south/east.
  20. I will preface this by saying I have no idea what I am talking about and have not had kids go through this yet . . . but I plan to encourage my boys to play multiple different sports. I don't want my kids wrapping their identify up in a single sport or putting too much pressure on themselves to be really good at a single sport. I also think that playing multiple sports can help build overall athleticism. I know James Washington played every sport available in high school and credits his football ability to that. http://newsok.com/article/5459585
  21. ^^ We may have a winner. Lubbock on Everything is hard to top. First two Guy Clark records are insanely good. Anything Willie put out in the first half of the 70s should be on the list as well. Flatlanders' "More a Legend Than A Band" should be mandatory listening as well.
  22. The work is already free to use/copy/distribute, but not to alter or incorporate into a larger work (i.e., making a derivative work). Sounds like they now want to make a derivative work using something you did. As a first step, you may want to ask them what they plan to do with the cartoons. Whether you own the copyrights depends on the specifics of the agreement you did with them ten years ago. But the fact they are contacting you now for permission suggests they probably think you own the rights.
  23. At least 4, apparently. Of course, if you really want to be in the target demographic, you also have to check some other boxes (thinks guns are "a great investment", watches MMA, susceptible to slippery slope arguments and various other logical fallacies, owns a truck worth almost as much as their home, etc.)
  24. I bet that fajita beef tasted like liquid smoke.
  25. I believe that the moon does not exist. I believe that vampires are the world's greatest golfers but their curse is they never get a chance to prove it. I believe that there are 31 letters in the white alphabet.
