  1. Agree on Rasika. It is awesome Indian food, as is Bombay Club. I like Tosca a lot, and it should work for a picky eater but is a bit more on the fancy side.
  2. When you land there will be three customs lines. One will be for middle easterners, and it will move fast. One will be for white guys and it will take an hour or two. And the third line will be for south Asians and it will look like they have been sitting there for days. I found the taxis to be fine. Though the first thing my taxi driver said to me upon leaving the airport was "if you want to have any fun, it will have to be in Bahrain . . . no fun allowed here" There is a popeyes in the airport.
  3. I actually witnessed an officer yell at a scooter rider last week for riding on the road. He told him to get on the sidewalk. Part of the problem seems to be that sidewalk riding is legal on some downtown streets and not on others. Its too confusing and you cannot expect out of town visitors to know which sidewalks are OK and which are not.
  4. I used to love Ben Kweller circa 2006. I caught his set at SXSW last year and it was not what I expected. His band was just him on guitar, a dude playing some sort of electric drum kit and a keys player that looked like a suburban soccer mom.
  5. Thai Kun is good (but casual). As noted above, Andiamo is close too. There is a Roaring Fork relatively close as well.
  6. I use flies with a lot of white in them -- usually just clouser minnows. I suspect a similar looking lure would work well.
  7. She is speaking at SXSW this year. Hopefully she will play a show somewhere while in town, but I have not seen anything announced.
  8. Anyone know what the white bass in Lake Austin and Town Lake do this time of year? Do they bunch up in the moving water near the dams or head up some of the feeder creeks (like Bull Creek)?
  9. Is there some inherent advantage to using the smaller briskets? Or is the size of the brisket a biproduct of trying to source cows that were not shot full of artificial growth hormones?
  10. Likelihood of winning the general election definitely matters. I am undecided as of now. I think Warren would probably be the best president, but I am not sure she is the best candidate. And even the worst in this field would be worlds better than another 4 years of Trump. So it matters. It matters big time. Party leadership (and even primary voters) definitely deserve some of the blame. If one of my favorite teams loses, then I am generally more pissed at the coach for having a shitty strategy than at the other team. And putting up a candidate that half of the country absolutely hates (even if their reasons are stupid or immoral) is a stupid strategy. BTW, I like Pete a lot too, but the jump from mayor to president is huge. We need a president that can undo as much trump damage as possible as quickly as possible, and experience in Washington matters for that sort of thing. Hopefully Pete can build a name for himself and then run for something more substantial.
  11. My favorite was Romney saying he has been a hunter his whole life . . . then walking it back by saying he mostly hunted rodents.
  12. As an aside to all of this. I just looked up Phoebe Bridgers because I was unfamiliar with her music. Upon first listen, I am digging the music she is making with Conor Oberst. Also, she named her first album "A Stranger in the Alps," which is a pretty perfect Lebowski reference!
  13. They were not bad offenses per se, but they were some of the least impressive of the Gundy era. Fedora left in 2007. Most of the great OSU offensive performances you are thinking of probably came after that.
  14. I think if you really like any band then the idea of a different singer is always problematic. And Fulbright’s singing style is very different (much bluesier). That said, every time I have seen Fulbright he has sprinkled in a wide variety of covers, and he always knocks it out of the park with other people’s material. His covers of Shotgun Wille, Tvz’s Catfish Song, and Let’s Go Get Stoned have all been particularly rad.
  15. He probably has not put out a truly great album in 14 years. But he was extremely prolific and put out a ton of great music from 2000-2005 (and some great stuff before that as part of Whiskytown). Infinitely better music than Ben Harper. Adams's early 2000s output is comparable to Gram Parsons or early Jackson Browne. Unfortunately, like Jackson Browne, the quality started to slide at some point.
  16. The backing band Fulbright has behind him is already pretty bad ass. His live shows are great. He just needs to put out some new music . . . most of the material he plays at his shows is from an album released in 2012.
  17. Sometimes its what you need. Don't focus on numbers, just get in a groove and its a fairly meditative experience.
  18. He definitely did not owe a full 10%. The caddie should have taken the $15k. Using the media to try to shame Kuch into giving more money is a BS move. Kuch should have thrown in more than an extra $1k from the get go, but the $50k the guy is asking for is excessive. IMO, Kuch's biggest mistake may be this quote: “For a guy who makes $200 a day, a $5,000 week is a really big week.” It implies he was right to pay him less because the guy is poor. Now, even if Kuch was in the right, he still looks like an asshole.
  19. The Senate just passed a real nice conservation bill (S. 47) that was the result of productive bipartisan negotiations. It does important things like fund the land and water conservation fund and block resource extraction efforts too close to national parks. It passed 92-8 with only a few real shitheads voting against it. Guess who was one of those shitheads? Zodiac was joined in his no vote by such quality individuals as Mike Lee, R. Paul and both Oklahoma senators.
  20. A Brit would go with black. An Italian would go brown. In America its divided and seems to depend on age. Since the people you are interviewing with are old . . . black is the safest choice. However, very dark brown or corodovan shoes rarely look out of place.
  21. Your geography skills could use some work. BART does not go to SV.
  22. I was scrolling through the comments thinking "its a shame these folks don't know about Gervinho" . . . and then BAM there he was. Clearly the hairline GOAT.
  23. I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but while browsing Redfin I came across this house: https://www.redfin.com/TX/Austin/1306-Elton-Ln-78703/home/31225939 Its as if someone invented a time machine and sent Mitch Cumstein's wife back in time to 1967 with some good drugs and an unlimited decorating budget. I dig it. Unfortunately, I am sure the new owners will have a very different vision for the house/lot.
  24. You don't go there for the brisket. They may have the best tacos in Austin.
