  1. Is he a member? Also does he like playing golf with strangers from the internet?
  2. St Claire country club? That’s a great course. Somewhere in the 3-6 range of the best courses in Pittsburgh. Oakmont is obviously head and shoulders above everyone else. Fox Chapel is 2nd, designed by Seth Reynor, a lot of classic CB Macdonald template holes. Hosts women’s and senior events, doesn’t really have the length for the modern men’s pro game. The next tier has St Claire, Longue Vue, Pittsburgh Field club, probably a few others could claim to be in that tier.
  3. My space and wallet are telling me to get an 8” bench top helical cutter. But I’m just trying to envision how much I’ll hate trying to deal with the short bed, short fence, and how accurate I can get it to be. My brain and my heart are telling me that the setup I have right now is working well enough that I should just wait until I can justify getting the 8” floor model.
  4. I absolutely do not have the floor space, but I’m weighing the quality of life improvement of being able to quickly run a board across a jointer and have a flat face instead of having to take the time to shim and hot glue a board to a long piece of melamine and then feed that through the planer to get a flat face vs making my shop even tighter than it already is. It would probably end up going between my bench/asssembly table/outfeed table and the wall. I’d end up putting retractable casters on the table so that I could pull it out to get to the jointer. Fuck I need a bigger space.
  5. Question for the woodworkers that have a jointer: Do you have a 6” or 8” jointer, and if you have a 6 do you often find yourself wishing you had those extra 2 inches? I’m trying to decide if I’d constantly be wishing I would have spent the extra $1k to go with 8” instead of 6”.
  6. About 15-20 mins north of downtown. Between mccandless and Glenshaw if you’re familiar with the area. A bit south of wildwood country club if we’re keeping it golf related. You spend time in Pittsburgh?
  7. Chipping & pitching is my #2 priority heading into this season. I’m losing far fewer shots chipping and pitching than I am with my irons. I’m standing in the fairway or on a par 3 tee box and every possible miss is in play, fat, thin, shank, pull hook, big slice. I would rather have 230 to the pin hitting 3w off the deck than I would a 9i from 140. Playing out 10 shots from each spot, my scoring average is going to be lower from 230 than 140. But also, I “get” chipping and pitching. I understand it and I like working on it. The biggest problem I have with chipping is not having a bump and run. I struggle with long chips, especially up hill, a lot more than I do with having to hoist it high and get it to stop. often times, just off the green with a long uphill chip I end up leaving it way short because the height and upslope killed it or, having to carry it the whole way there, I go way long. So I need to get a low runner into my game this year. Just a matter of practicing it to get the feel for the distance.
  8. This is the year I finally break 80. I had a few rounds in the low 80s last year and felt like I was close, had to take a few weeks off and then didn’t get close the rest of the season. The main stat I need to work on, unsurprisingly, is GIR. And in my case that comes down approach accuracy. By far the weakest part of my game.
  9. I’ll be living vicariously through yinz guys in this thread for a while.
  10. Speaking of hand planes, here is a before and after of a Stanley no 3 hand plane I restored about a year ago. I bought it and a few others at a farm auction for $5 each. As best I can date it, it appears to be a type 11, which would put its manufacture date between 1910-1918. It takes a hell of a lot of elbow grease along with some rust remover and sandpaper to get it cleaned up and functioning properly. But once it’s sharp and set up, even at over 100 years old it works far better than any entry level plane made in the last 50 years, and not all that far off from the Lie-Nielsen version that costs 60x what I paid for this one. Plus mine is so old that it has Brazilian rosewood handles.
  11. Refs just making absolutely sure they get Allen v Mahomes next week on these last couple drives. He absolutely baited them into the penalty with that slide. Totally need to make him pay for using his legs.
  12. That’s so hard for a defender. He’s gashed you for a td, just ran for a few, and now he dives as soon as he crosses the LOS. Really hard to pull up in that situation.
  13. Steelers got the ball first.
  14. Getting the stop on the last possession, losing the fumble, and then the quick touchdown might have ended any little hope that the Steelers had of pulling this one off.
  15. I’ve seen a lot more complete catches than that be called incomplete, but I have no fucking clue what way they’ll rule on a catch anymore.
  16. Oh fuck off Jim. I’m sure god determined that your cheating ass deserved this.
  17. I can’t get over how shitty michigans helmet stickers look. They used to look just pretty bad, but the different stickers looks like someone that just coats their car in random bumper stickers.
  18. I was joking. There was almost no chance, even after that start, that UM didn’t need at least 30 points to win this. Calling a pass on 4th and 2 was UM outsmarting themselves after 5 straight runs trying to get cute instead of calling what was working. JJ doesn’t have it if this gets into a shoot out in the 2nd half.
  19. God it would be so great if UM could blow this after that 1st Q. Harbaugh jumps to the NFL and UM hires the next Brady Hoke.
  20. Fucking trash paper tiger big ten defenses. PAC schools gonna wreck shop in the big ten.
  21. I still hope they get to come out beating their chests in the second half, but the idea that the pac schools were head and shoulders above the big ten was laughable.
  22. Where’s all the asshats that said the big ten was trash, UM’s defense was a sham propped up by outdated big ten offenses, and the PAC schools are going to dominate the conference?

    NFL- Week 18

Steelers playoff scenarios: Steelers win and a Colts-Texans tie Steelers win and Buffalo loss Steelers win and a Jaguars loss/tie Steelers tie and Colts and Texans do not tie and Jaguars lose (Even with a Steelers loss) Colts and Texans do not tie, Jaguars lose and Broncos win
  24. PGA tour is done how? The LIV event in bedminster, the last event that I could find ratings for, averaged 187,000 viewers for the final round on the CW. A WNBA game on ION network that weekend averaged 271,000. The final round of the St Jude tour that weekend averaged 3.2 million. The product is shit, and almost no one watches. The PGA tour isn’t dead, at all. All that happened is the PIF created LIV as a tool to buy a share of the PGA tour. Its cost them roughly 1.2 billion in “signing bonuses” and 400 million/year in prize money. Buying Rahm seems like a move to put pressure on the merger.
  25. After the night he just had, yep.
