I haven’t actually watched Pitt a lot this year. How in the fuck has this team won 4 of their last 5?

The defense scored in 3 of those 4 and the other one was against Miami.

and that's an easy toss.  what are they bitching about?

It’s Cleveland, and they have a lead on the Steelers. Anyone in those stands would stab a person in the field to not blow this game.

Mason Rudolph sucks, and he has it all set up for him. Great oline, good rb, solid #1 wr. I guess you can’t completely write him off, but I thought he’d be better.

You have not watched the Steelers this season if you think they have a great oline. They have regressed to an unbelievable degree.

Heard on the ray-de-o this morning that in the Big 10/16, the away team selects the game time of the national tv game.  Gophers wanted to play it at night.  Franklin said no, 11:00 am please.  This could all be fake news for all I know, but it is what i heard.

My understanding is that once the b1g decided to have night games in November they set a rule that both teams had to agree to it.

That Penn State offense better wake up for the stretch run.  300 ypg isn't going to get it done.

To hang with osu, absolutely, but in general maybe not so much.

since we’re comparing psu to Clemson, Clemson is 6th in scoring offense at 44.2 ppg. Penn state is 12th at 38.5 ppg.

    Scoring defense of clemsons schedule:

    34, 63, 78, 80, 91, 96, 96, 125, fcs (avg 83)

    Psu:

    3, 12, 25, 33, 36, 73, 86, fcs (avg 38)

  6. clemson is on autopilot this season, sometimes asleep at the wheel. When they wake up and put the pedal down they are a playoff team. They almost wrecked the car in North Carolina.

penn state is breaking in a first year starting quarterback while trying to figure out who their running back is by constantly rotating 4 guys through the backfield. Right now the offense is a one man show with Hamler. The TE Friermuth is legit. They really need someone (or 2) to emerge as a big body on the outside to really open up the offense. If Justin Shorter can live up to his 5* billing he could fill that role. They need to figure out what they are doing with the run game. No one knows if Clifford can be an elite QB yet.

the potential is there for all of those things to fall into place. The elite defense has been good enough to allow them to keep winning while they figure the rest out. It won’t be enough to get them past OSU unless the offense rounds into form.

I think they are probably good enough to play with anyone in the country outside of osu. That feels like a game that osu runs away with in the second half. I think osu has plenty of answers for penn states defense. I don’t think psu’s offense is up to the task of keeping that game close.

James Franklin is a notoriously poor Xs and Os coach yet his teams almost always play better fundamental football than Herman’s teams. Go figure.

I disagree. He’s a terrible clock manager, but a prototypical ceo head coach. He lives and dies by his coordinators. His first year OC last season was clearly out of his depth and has not improved a ton. There’s very little imagination in the run game, to the point that they are struggling to run the ball against vastly inferior teams. Although tonight has looked better.

East coast bias. Ain’t nobody got time for those 10:30 pac 12 kickoffs.

Edit: except this week because UGA - domer gonna be over at halftime.

yeah i agree. Mason will probably be getting the blame when it's really Tomlin's and his complete shit show on defense. I like Connor but he seems to always be hurt. The Snell pick was a huge reach and he hasn't flashed at all. He's like the RB version of aggy great SlOneil in terms of speed. Moncreif was a bad signing, actually terrible when you consider that he's shown he's finished during the preseason and yet they still kept him.  Gonna be a rough season but as long as Mason proves he can hang, the steelers should have a bright future after letting Colbert and Tomlin walk this winter.

There is a zero % chance they fire tomlin this off season. He probably should be. He’s undoubtedly underachieved with great teams. The signature of the mike tomlin era is a good team playing down to bad teams and losing games they shouldn’t.  But the Steelers haven’t fire a coach in 50 years and tomlin’s win % is second only to Belichick among active coaches.

80's and 90's were horrendous at QB for Stillers fans.. Brister, O'Donnell, Kent Graham, Mike Tomszak, Kordell, Maddox..Yikes.  I think Mason will do fine, however I expect the defense to continue to allow big plays to happen during crucial parts of the game.

And now that the team knows they won’t be putting up 35 points a week this year they immediately trade a first round pick for Minkah Fitzpatrick to try and shut down a little bit of those gaping holes in the defensive backfield.
