  1. Prayers for entire Ehlinger family from a Sooner. Watched both Sam and Jake’s entire Westlake careers and I’m just devastated to hear the news.
  2. Balmorhea High Dive: Pecos cantaloupe slices blended Tequila Spring water (Ozarka not Balmorhea water you heretics) Ice Garnish with chile salt
  3. Page 45 gold. A lot of really good recipes in this book. Keeper.
  4. For the tenderfoot, urban, skinny jeans-wearers who need a dose of biscuit technology:
  5. My childhood in a box: Yes. I was poor but didn’t know it at the time.
  6. Finest chili gravy in the free world. Alas poor Dart Bowl enchiladas. I knew him...
  7. Dammit to hell. Only place in town that had legit good green chile for burgers. Old Austin is just about gone. I’m about ready to say adios to Austin too.
  8. Yep. LAX is a damn zoo. However, if you rent a car (especially since new Uber LAX pickup is so f’ed up), there is an absolutely bad ass Greek restaurant called Aliki’s Greek Taverna directly across the street from Hertz at the SE corner of Airport and Westchester. It right in front of super sketchy looking motel but restaurant is separate family owned business that is awesome.
  9. I can’t remember the names but Sacramento has some excellent options that I’ve tried in visits this year. Terminal B (Southwest) is really nice. San Diego has several good bars with local drafts. Phoenix has multiple good spots and one of the better connection cities for short layover. Some serious talent I’ve noticed on my visits this year as well. Newark and Kansas City suck ass.
  10. Feral cats are the worst, quail and songbird eating SOBs ever. Reminds me of the time we had a lease in northwest Texas and a feral cat pissed in my buddy’s truck. We were rolling back in from the deer stands on the make when we saw the cat trot off from under his truck. My buddy slams on the brakes and lays his 300 win mag across the rest. Fluffy disappeared in a red cloud.
  11. #3 for freshly ground chiles or reconstituted. Massive upgrade over store bought chili powder. Also, the Lynn Hejtmancik recipe is my go-to as well. I use the Better Than Bouillon beef and chicken broth and add two bans of Original Rotel are my only changes.
  12. Just returned from business trip to OC/SD last week and tried a spot in Newport Beach called Bear Flag Seafood Company that was great. They had fresh yellowtail and Opah on menu Thursday night that was tip top. Marine Room is a cool bar in Laguna Beach and a great place to hike is Top of the World Park in the hills over Laguna. If there’s snow on the San Gabriels in January, that spot’s view is unsurpassed.
  13. No 5*. Just a good place to pop an Axis doe. I’ve seen some of the craigslist posts but some of the ones I’ve seen look like one of those 100 acre pens where they’ve got a mix of malnourished animals. The craigslist ads I saw didn’t inspire confidence. Looking for something out by Menard, Junction, etc.. that has wild, healthy animals - probably post season Jan-Feb. timeframe, so plenty of time to look around. Everybody I’ve talked with raves about how good Axis taste, so the fat bastard in me is intrigued.
  14. Anyone have some info. on an axis hunt day lease? I hunt up by Abilene (hence nada Axis) but want to try some Axis meat this year.
  15. Damn. I’m sorry I missed these this year. Both in the food court? I think I did drink $60 worth of fair tickets of beer, so I’ve got that going for me. Look.....Ceedee just scored again...
  16. Both of these restaurants in the Crucecita downtown area of Huatulco are fan-dam-tastic: Alfredo’s - coastal Mexican and mescal. Alfredo’s El Jefe Shrimp dish is one of the meals I’ve ever had. Giordano’s - literally next door to Alfredo’s. Incredible Italian food. Ton of Italian expats living in Huatulco and this is the spot where they eat.
  17. I’ve heard great things about both Loreto and Mag Bay. I’m so damn jealous...looking forward to pics though.
  18. For beaches, Huatulco is awesome. Archaeology museum (Bocana del Rio Copalita )is first class there as well and connects the areas ruins with larger Oaxaca sites.
  19. Not much better than an OU home game in the Rose Bowl 🌹:
  20. Boy have I had a few of those over the years. Ever since I switched to .257 and high shoulder shot, I’ve sure got a lot less prickly pear spines in my clothes.
  21. Totally agree. I’m also big fan of high shoulder shot. I shoot a .257 Weatherby, and ever deer I’ve shot with this round high shoulder drops in their tracks.
  22. Alicia’s is so awesome. Damn I wish I could have some of their green chile enchiladas today.
  23. From a Sooner - RIP El Ced. Great player. Losing Mike Gaddis and Cedric Benson in the same week is beyond shocking and more than a little weird to lose the best, ever #32s from both programs. Prayers for the Benson family.
  24. Just saw that earlier. Looks like it was just north of the Grandview stairs.
  25. I had a great meal at Nepenthe back in April. Tough to beat the surroundings and view from that place. One of my favorite breakfast places in the world, Em Le in Carmel, closed a year or so ago due to dispute with their landlord. I’ve heard they reopened under another name ... ask around and order one of their Eggs Benedict plates with crumbled sausage.
