I also use an elliptical regularly, as I simply cannot run without f'ing up knees and back (have never been able to). I also do weights and bodyweight stuff, but the joints in a 60yo are not the same as when I was 25 for sure. I highly recommend the Norwegian 4x4 protocol (insert standard disclaimer about checking with doctor before starting an exercise program). I used to do Tabatas on the thing and they made me feel like dying. But didn't really move the needle in terms of fitness compared to the Norwegian, at least for me. And it's not like I haven't been active consistently for my whole adult life, so not starting from nothing. The Norwegian 4x4 workouts are much less "I feel like I'm dying", but yet according to my Apple Watch, my VO2Max has steadily improved since I began them 8 months ago. You only need to do this about once a week to see results, and it "scales" for any fitness level. I.e., you do the workout at the highest intensity you can sustain for the 4 minute periods. So, at the start this will be lower than it will as you improve. And the improvement started pretty quickly for me. Other days I do more normal "Zone 2" work on the elliptical, or walk. Of course, YMMV.
  2. Nebraska breaking out the all red pajamas, but in a game that should be a win (don't do well historically in alternates). Do not like.
  3. I hope his health outcome is good, but “genuinely good guy”? Not based on some of the things I read, particularly how he treated the players on the team when he arrived, his throwing players that HE brought in under the bus at various times, etc. He’s good at giving the “what a great person I am” press conferences and statements at times. I don’t buy it. Still doesn’t mean I hope he dies or anything remotely close to that.
  4. My daughter went there and enjoyed it a lot. After a couple years of applying, she got into Vet school (LSU). She would have liked to go to CSU vet school, but they actually changed the prereq requirements after she was already there and almost graduated, so she would have had to take additional courses for even a chance. Given the odds of getting in at all, she decided against that. That was pretty much the most frustrating thing for her there. Working with advisors who knew her goal was vet school, and this happened. And no grandfathering or anything to help avoid it.
  5. Nebraska asked to reschedule due to planned stadium renovations. An extra home game was intended to make up for lost revenue due to reduced seating capacity. The series was originally slated for 2016-2017, but Tennessee requested similar rescheduling to allow them to participate in the Battle at Bristol against Virginia Tech in 2016, a high-profile game held at Bristol Motor Speedway. Nebraska accommodated. In this case, Tennessee would not agree to moving the games so the series was cancelled. That makes Tennessee the bitch in my book.
  6. Man, put them eggs on the pancakes, break those yolks and let them run all over, mmmmmmm.
  7. My daughter went to an IB high school. No discernable difference in opportunities it provided, from what we could see.
  8. "No" is "less", but "less" isn't necessarily "no".
  9. Followup, we really enjoyed it. MUCH better than an ocean cruise in our opinions. We are mid-late 50's, and were in the younger half of passengers. Although, there were a few younger than us, with the youngest couple in their 30's. That was never an issue at all. We found a few couples that we enjoyed spending time with, eating meals with, etc. Food was great, drinks were good (if not great), and all inclusive. We have booked a Christmas Market cruise (Danube river, Budapest-Munich) with them in December 2024.
  10. My son was a swimmer for Bowman at ASU. Part of Bowman’s second class at ASU. Prior to and even during/after his time at ASU, my son was a huge fan of UT swimming and Eddie Reese in particular. Would have been his first choice destination, but admittedly he wasn’t a big enough recruit for UT, and even getting onto the ASU team (non-scholarship) sort of surprised us. Let’s just say that after our experience, we are not fans of Bowman’s “style” and how he deals with people. When we went on the visit, he told us that my son is now “one of HIS guys, and he will always take care of him and treat him right.” As Bowman recruited at a higher and higher level, my son ended up “cut without being cut” from the team going into his senior year. Not the courage to actually cut him, but just sort of treat him poorly and try and make him quit (I know, not that uncommon, lots of coaches are assholes like that). My son is not a quitter, and kept working his ass off to contribute. He (and we as parents) could handle him being cut as long as it was done in a respectful and honest way; that’s just life sometimes. The way it actually happened made it even worse than what would be a difficult thing no matter what (among other things, accusing my son of not taking care of an injured shoulder summer after junior year when in fact the trainers on the team denied him that treatment when he repeatedly requested it, then just saying “oops, guess I was given wrong information”.) From what my kid tells me based on what he’s learned from friends in the swimming world, pretty much the opposite of Reese in most ways (he does know swimming, and obviously made ASU much better). He’s not sure this style will work as well at a place like UT that isn’t looking for a huge turnaround. I guess time will tell. I can tell you we are not rooting for his success because of our experience.

A client of my brother (who owns a gym) had a knee replacement called a "Jiffy Knee". Avoids cutting through a lot of the muscles and tendons of a "traditional" replacement (the pic attached is him, you can see the incision is more to the side than the ones I'm used to seeing). He was walking with a cane and almost no apparent pain the day after the surgery. Played golf two weeks later. He was a former CEO for an insurance company you've heard of, so I tend to think this wasn't some fly-by-night experimental surgery. If I ever need a knee replaced, I know I'll at least look into it.
  13. Team chopped up bacon here.
  14. Loved that game.
