  1. Thinking about all the Georgia SoS stuff this morning, I don't know that the Republican party is recoverable in any working sense. They are thoroughly compromised. By supporting Trump's attacks on the media, by making the truth malleable, they have painted themselves into a corner. Raffensberger and Kemp seem to be pretty standard Republicans. They aren't RINOs, they just made the mistake of following the law while performing their duties. Look at the results. They cant clear their names with the truth, because that's no longer a thing. They could hand count every ballot in front of a camera to validate the results and MAGA would not believe their own eyes. That's why you see so many young or ambitious Rs toeing the line, because to do otherwise is political suicide. They will scream LAW AND ORDER, but ignore Trump's attacks on both, because they have conceded the high ground to him. The media attacks have been destructive and effective. Going back to Raffensberger, what can he do to combat Trump's lies? Fox, OAN, Newsmax have all told their captive audience one set of numbers and for many, that is all that will ever matter. Same thing with all the false election fraud. Even when forced to correct the Dominion story, how effective will that actually be to the overall story? When you run damaging claims 12 hours a day for weeks across all your prime time and popular timeslots, and then issue a 5 minute correction buried in daytime coverage, the truth is still the victim. Of course, they have the built in deep-state excuse to fall back on to avoid any blame for their lies. Raffensberger going on CNN to to air his grievances just reinforces the RINO/deep-state label. Its a perfect system. Working backwards from that understanding, you cant expect any R to uphold their oath of office. The truth is no longer a fixed point of reference, ergo rules and boundaries are no longer limitations that will be adhered to. This will get worse before it gets better, because they have crossed the Rubicon. Any actions from here on out will be self-preserving in nature. Trump will do anything to maintain power because its the only thing keeping him from getting hammered legally. Republicans will do anything to keep him in power because Trump tells them to. He has ensured they put him and the party over their office and the constitution.
  2. And more so if the dems can get the senate too. More passed legislation = more shit for Rs to rage about in 2024. THEY DECRIMINALIZED THE DEVILS LETTUCE! WHATS NEXT, EATING BABIES?
  3. I used to think you needed to read a Bible or attend church to be considered a Christian, but these are strange times.
  4. If you believe Urban, they could never catch AH for his weed use on a test even though they knew he was doing it. He allegedly told NFL teams as much before the draft. Went so far as blaming AH for teaching other guys on the team how to beat the testing. We have had plenty of guys get in trouble for similar things, it’s a big leap from there to murdering a guy.
  5. Clean in this context is not having any level 1/sanctionable violations. Level 2s and 3s are part of doing business.
  6. A football player drank underage, smoked weed, and got into fights? AH was a giant piece of shit after he left Florida. He was possibly a giant piece of shit while at Florida regarding the shooting, but that's never been proven AFAIK. Drinking and punching people isn't something that shows up on the NCAA radar. The point was about NCAA violations, not moralistic hindsight.
  7. That's the best part of all of this. He's a republican trying his hardest to get republican voters to vote tomorrow to save the republican majority in the senate and he's actively having to fight the republican president to do it. Its fucking bonkers.
  8. Ah yes, the guy became a murderer after leaving college violation. No program is pure, but we haven’t had a level 1 finding in 30 years. It was a point of emphasis under Foley. Urban stretched things to the limit but never had any real NCAA troubles.
  9. He may not have called a Democrat governor or SoS, but you can bet your ass he called every possible R legislator in those states trying to find an angle similar to this call. Raffensberger was already keyed up after Graham’s call, all the Lin/Powell stuff, and Trump and company crushing him publicly. If they had schmoozed him from the beginning he never records that call and keeps the republican drama in house. Trump and company cut their own throats here, and it’s glorious.
  10. https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/first-and-10-will-dan-mullen-be-coaching-florida-in-2021-its-far-from-certain/ Yea, I posted in the Gators thread that there was smoke about him and the Jets starting a few days ago. The noise is rising with articles like above. As MIB stated, there’s public friction with the school admin now stemming from getting us back on the NCAA’s radar after being clean for 30 years, plus all the fuckups in pressers. He’s a really gifted offensive mind, but his ego is going to fuck him.
  11. I thought Phil Fulmer ratted him out? He didn't attend the next year's SEC media days in Tuscaloosa because he was avoiding being served IIRC.
  12. Again, it’s a huge blind spot that assumed that we would elect qualified, stable people for the job. I doubt the first rule book at the morgue included don’t fuck the corpses either.
  13. Congress people can carry weapons into the building but are supposed to leave them in their office when going to the floor for voting. They aren’t screened on entry though, so some are likely carrying cause 2A. edit: she asked about carrying during orientation apparently. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/newly-elected-rep-boebert-asks-about-carrying-gun-capitol-grounds-n1248771
  14. Trump is the symptom, not the disease. We have dumbed down our political system to the point of it becoming unworkable. We don’t elect elder statesmen (or women) anymore, we elect idiots that couldn’t pass a citizenship test or civic class. They reflect the populace that is dumbing down as well. That’s how you elect Marjorie Taylor-Green, Tommy Tubberville, Lauren Boebert. Most don’t even have a platform beyond being against the bogeyman du jour. Loeffler and Perdue aren’t running for anything, they are running against communism, socialism, etc. The elder statesmen we do have are compromised by lobbyists and/or their efforts to maintain their grip on power. That’s a both sides problem. Pelosi and Schumer will only rock the boat so much because they are on board. They are also saddled with with the problems earlier decisions to maintain power has created. Simple majority votes, creeping executive orders, the list goes on. Congress no longer works as intended. There isn’t any compromise or working through issues. There’s obstruction and filling do or die bills with as much pork as possible. The Republicans neutered one of most significant checks on power by ignoring their duties on impeachment and lack of enforcement of congressional subpoenas. That will in turn be abused or corrected by the dems and that fix will in turn just cause more problems. This is the way. I really don’t know what’s repairable at this point. The actions each side takes are band aids around the sucking chest wound that’s killing us. We need to codify a lot of the norms we took for granted that no elected official would cross. We need to probably beef up the presidential qualifications to include the ability to verify that person isn’t/can’t be compromised. At a minimum, we should probably ensure that the person that becomes original classification authority and commander in chief of our armed forces for our country can pass a fucking clearance investigation. We need to find a way to get congress to act like congress again and do their jobs without such egregious deference to party.
  15. That’s pretty standard fare for certain clearances. Your grade school teachers can get interviewed if the investigator has any questions with no other sources to go through.
  16. GWB is probably staying quiet because he almost gave Trump and any future fascists a much easier path to a coup. In 2008, these changes in the Insurrection Act of 1807 were repealed in their entirety, reverting to the previous wording of the Insurrection Act.[16] It was originally written to limit presidential power as much as possible in the event of insurrection, rebellion, or lawlessness.
  17. When the guard is activated they are under the control of the governor/state, not the fed. They still have to comply with posse comitatus though, so they can’t be used to enforce the law. I don’t know what the rules are on homeland security, I assume they are considered a domestic entity, so they can probably be used more broadly.
  18. I doubt they begged them to, but I’m sure they passed on all the fuckery they were seeing and hearing in the hopes that someone they trusted would raise some stink about it. The people in uniform are in a supremely shitty spot about this. It’s easy to say they should just publicly denounce Trump but that’s a massive conflict with their duties and would break faith with the CiC as an office. Yes, Trump deserves that break, but the effects would last beyond him. The military is doing everything possible to stay apolitical.

    Well it’s the jets, so....
  20. I’m super excited to see all the hay the Q crazies make out of a guy named Germany being involved in the Georgia Elections.
  21. You know Trump was genuinely confused that the call wasn't working. “This shit has worked with the republicans in DC for 4 years, does this redneck just not understand what I’m asking for?”
