  1. I had the same problem with my daughter a few years ago. Men's rooms are generally disgusting and I did not feel comfortable taking her in there. Instead we would just use the ladies room. Much cleaner. No one really seemed to care because I think they figured I was just being a good dad. Until they saw the camcorder.

  2. It's very temporary. I think you just put one of the college Deans in there or something until the committee has found the new permanent President. That's the key hire. You just need someone in there now who will keep their mouth shut.

  3. My 3rd grader is currently writing his narrative paper on RDR2. He watches me play occasionally with the volume down when I'm sure the mission is going to be relatively safe. Told him numerous times this was not a subject for school but I guess he ignored. When I discovered the paper (due tomorrow) last night I had a fit and told him he could either rewrite it from scratch about a new subject or edit it heavily to remove all references to gun violence. He went with Option 2. Little fucker won't spare any details. He has a chapter alone on the Object Wheel. Now he's drawing maps and landscapes. I just want him to go to bed.

Dude - never hang around the pharmacy; it's like being in the ER. Tons of sick people are there waiting to get their scrips filled.
You might as well go on an ebola tour, or a norovirus cruise.
Hope you didn't kill those kids

I only took the one with me. If I had to only keep one it would be the girl anyway. Plus he's covered, he got the shot, as well.

lol he started to freak out and had last minute ragrets, mini panic I don't want to do this anymore, no no no etc and I got him to turn his head and he's still freaking out about how he doesn't want to get the shot while the needle is in him and he doesn't even realize it.

  5. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread but just in case not I want to let any potential contractors know that I'm ready. I am awaiting your call to fly to Hollywood and murder the person who keeps green lighting the Discover Cash Back Cash match people commercial with the Asian girls. I do not blame the girls. Or Asia. But I want to kill every single person involved with this ad. I mean I've already admitted to my crimes here. I'm willing to go to jail for the rest of my life and have my children raised by The Simpsons and Bunk'd. It's fine. As long as we can get rid of those commercials.

  6. I'm not sure anyone really cares but for the sake of posterity, some follow up. New BoT chairperson Dianne Byrum actually created a Twitter account and tweeted today to clap back at Engler's dumbass comments. Even though she was the 'insider' (i.e. not what a sane person would want) candidate in the 2 person race for Board chair, I guess this is at least slightly encouraging.

The real question here is what to do with Engler. He's on his way out as they find a new President for sure. I'm of the mindset that it doesn't make any sense to fire him in the meantime. He's a nuisance but a temporary one and I fear a ship with no captain even more than a ship with a pig for a captain. If this were Congress I would probably be saying the opposite but Engler is for real on borrowed time. His job was to get the settlement done and ensure MSU didn't lose State funding. Job done.

Anyway, here's Byrum's tweet. I do like Denhollander's response. She's pretty awesome. Maybe she could be interim President.

  7. We went to Walgreens. I took the boy because you have to be 7 or older and my daughter is 6. It was about a 50 minute ordeal round trip, it's probably a half mile from home. 1 pharmacist and 1 assistant. Lots of people coming and going. Drive thru. We had to wait quite a bit after we got to the counter and got rang up. And damn, people visiting the pharmacy and by and large impatient as fuck and rude as fuck. Now I just need to cross my fingers for 2 weeks.

Everytime I think MSU's interim president can't say something more stupid, this guy comes through.

"You’ve got people, they are hanging on and this has been … there are a lot of people who are touched by this, survivors who haven’t been in the spotlight," Engler told The News Friday. "In some ways, they have been able to deal with this better than the ones who’ve been in the spotlight who are still enjoying that moment at times, you know, the awards and recognition. And it’s ending. It’s almost done.”

MSU trustee: Engler's comments on Nassar victims 'ill advised

Yep. Absurd and ridiculous statement. There is some sentiment from some MSU alums that I know (not this one, or Wally I don't think) that some of the victims are enjoying the spotlight. The Rivals board in particular is pretty disgusting. But that said, if you're Engler - even if you are  a fucking pig and think this way - how about you just SHUT THE FUCK UP and say something nice to not make yourself and your school continue to look like shit? Fucking asshole.

To boot, 3 new members of the Board of Trustees were sworn in this month (3 women, all Democrats, one a former sexual assault victim so you think they might get it). They voted on Wednesday for who the new Chair of the Board would be. It was Mossallam (very pro victim and anti Engler) vs. Dianne Byrum. She supported Mossallam in calling for Engler's ouster but she's the "old school" candidate, supported by asshole Joel Ferguson, Engler and Engler's puppet on the board Melanie Foster.

Nope, the vote went Byrum's way. One of the new trustees backed Byrum and a guy who was in Mossallam's corner had to flip because in the event of a deadlock, the previous Vice Chair becomes the new Chair. That was Joel Ferguson.

Fucking clown show continues. I hope the new President is some extreme feminist or some shit just to counteract all of the dumbassery. I don't even care if she hates sports. Time for the Board and the President to stop embarrassing me and the rest of our alums.

  9. Detroit is beautiful any time of year but late Summer especially. You could do a pedal pub. They are supposed to be rolling out tiki pedal pubs on the river this summer. If you don't have enough in your party it wouldn't be hard to pick up a couple of homeless people to join you. Let me know if you want more tips.

don't overthink it.  you'll be on a tourist high on the visit.  as such, everything you see will be the coolest shit ever, everything will automatically taste better, the air will feel 10 degrees cooler, everyone will look less fat and way more attractive, etc.

breakfast, there are tons of breakfast places.  there are too many good breakfast taco places to list.  a good place for breakfast/brunch is z tejas off west sixth down in clarksville area.  i know it's fallen out of favor with the younger crowed but i've never had a bad meal there.  the brunch menu is fantastic.  plus they make great mimosas (hard not to do) and bloody marys.

lunch, bbq.  you want to stay close to dtown.  that's the allure of being a tourist in austin.  as such, hit up micklethwait.  it's damn near as good as franklins without the stupid fucking wait.  or la bbq, but expect some wait.

dinner, yelp is your friend.  we have high dollar, small plates places to good down home places like hoovers cooking.  just depends on what you want.  you can get tapas in any city but i'm a fan of barlata.  most things they do well, some things they don't.  the stuffed squid in squid ink is to die for.  and i recommend hoovers.  it's won't be high on anyone's list but it's a good down home food place that is a staple in austin.

or drive out to the oasis and watch the sunset.  food is meh, drinks are good, view is fantastic.

paddle board town lake.  that's a great way to spend a few hours.  rent from Texas Rowing Center.  it usually has better cleaner water in that area.  plus with the east or southeast wind, it's a great place to paddle against the wind towards dtown to start and then slowly drift back with the wind on your way back to the dock.  do the paddling up front and enjoy the ride back.  plus texas rowing center has copious amounts of free parking.

walk town lake in the morning.  do the 3 mile loop between mopac and lamar pedestrian bridge.  you can exercise it (run or brisk walk) or leisurely stroll it with cup of coffee in hand.  good eye candy.

    see the capitol building.

These seem like good recs. I've got a buddy heading down there for Spring Break with his wife and their 5th grade daughter. Few days in Austin and then a few in SA. He's got the Franklin pre-order ordering window already on his calendar so that's his top agenda item.

I've suggested The Oasis/Travis/the other place adjacent, Barton Springs (I haven't been there in 20 years - still cool?), Mt. Bonnell, capitol, bats (I've never done this but I know it's a thing). I've suggested Salt Lick for ambiance/experience not food on his way to SA. Anything else? Valentina's for breakfast maybe if they need more meat.

What about SA? I haven't been there in 20 years and it was pretty much party on the Riverwalk.
