Trixie figured out how to go down the steps to the basement and up the steps to the upstairs today. This is going to pose additional challenges but damn if it wasn't cute. Also the rescue sent all of the litter mates a group text and she is definitely the runt. Her two brothers are 38 and 45 lbs at about 14 weeks, her sister was at 30 2 weeks ago. We have a vet appointment in the AM but I'm guessing Trix is around 30 lbs. These are some big pups. Hopefully going to have a playdate soon. -
Brother you missed an entire era on shaggy... At any rate did it turn out as good with the juicy flat as your usual product? I didn't tallow back in those days but I didn't have flats that looked like yours and sometimes I ponder whether it was the high heat.

Ober. Yeah the place I have stayed at a few times is just down the road from there and the gondola goes directly over the property. -
Yeah I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, and I know it's not for everybody, but something about Disney just leaves me feeling good, and I know it is like that for my kids and wife, too. I'm sure it's the propaganda. 😂 But damn if it doesn't work. The customer experience is superb, as well.

I would look at the West side of Gatlinburg up Ski Mountain road. Really cool up there and bears galore. Plus you can easily hit the bypass without going into town to get around traffic and go into Pigeon Forge and back. Also if you are willing to drive an hour or so, there is ww rafting near the NC border. -

Not sure what your kid is like or what you have planned but Asheville is more adult/hipster/bar/foodie scene. If you're planning on spending most of your time on the trails that doesn't really matter I guess. If your 12 year old likes 12 year old stuff you may want to look at a cabin above Gatlinburg. Still plenty of hiking and outdoorsy stuff in the area plus go carts, mountain coasters, pizza joints, etc. -
I was there yesterday for a couple of hours. Beautiful place. We ate a late breakfast at a place called the Greeter's Corner near the beach. Decent American overpriced breakfast. I also saw the most ridiculous insane overreacting case of road rage right next to me at a light I have ever witnessed. The sort of road rage that in many places probably ends in a shooting. It was mind blowing to see someone lose their absolute mind over something so minor and petty. I'm sure it wasn't indicative of the area but it is sticking with me pretty hard 36 hours later. Anyway here's a pic or two I took off the pretty stuff.

Had a great day at Disneyland yesterday. Thanks a bunch @mdmost and @CooterBrown. Great advice. Very different vibes vs Orlando. Bummed again that we didn't get to see HM even with the overlay but we really liked seeing some of the different versions of the rides and I think we all liked seeing new to us stuff, too, even if it was as silly as the Pinocchio ride. I felt like Peter Pan and Space Mountain were definitely shorter than their counterparts at MK. We liked the DL version of Pirates better, and I felt like it was longer. The queue definitely not as cool but I thought the boats at waist level in the queue and going around the restaurant were cool. Oh and I love LOVED the Nemo submarine. I didn't know they had kept 20000 leagues going in DL. It was really nostalgic for me, I hadn't ridden it in 25 years and it was a favorite of mine when I was a kid. Rope drop strategy was great except those of us who headed straight to Space were rejected as it wasn't operational yet for some reason. We hit the Matterhorn and then back to Space which just opened, then there was already a 45 min wait for Indy so we skipped and then did Big Thunder. Forgot to hit pirates and went to Fantasyland and knocked out damn near everything there by 11. Rode some more stuff, got lucky with a LL timeslot for Indy as it was already booking out to 10:30 around 2:30. The boy and I stayed until about 3, the girls wanted to watch the parade and he wanted to go to the gym. Gym and tacos from a random local place and then we meet back up with them around 6. Holy hell they don't mess around with security at Disneyland. Checkpoints just to get into Downtown Disney (no ticket required) and those guards were checking every pocket of every bag and stroller. I've been to a Superbowl and I've never seen screenings that tight. Anyway after we got through we criss crossed the park with LL reservations until about 9:30 when my son tapped out because the girls wanted to watch the fireworks. We walked back and my daughter was determined to stay until close and my wife was kind enough to oblige since I was whipped. 2 nights prior I got a flat tire running over something on the 405 in the rental so that was fun, and on Saturday we had to drive to San Bernardino to see my crazy BIL. Friday we did all the LA tourist stuff which was a blast (other than the flat). Today we drove to Laguna/Newport beaches and then flew back to Phoenix this evening. Back to Detroit on Wednesday. Obligatory 'seems like it was just yesterday' (it really does) '

Good to hear you are battling. I haven't had any transformational experience with it but out of curiosity have you tried CBD? I have heard people claim that it has helped their pet for seizures/epilepsy. Don't take my word for it please, definitely talk to your vets. -
Just saw a rumor as I'm sitting on my 2.5+ hour delayed Delta flight that they may be opening the HM early at Disneyland with a virtual queue and holiday overlay. The rumored date would be this Friday. We will be there Sunday. Might I actually get lucky on something for once?

@Hefeweizen good luck man. That's a tough situation. When that happened with my Malamute in the early 00s it was a brain tumor. We tried radiation and it didn't work. When I saw it happen a couple of years ago with the St. Bernard we sit (husband was out of town so wife and I had to go help) they just couldn't get them to stop and ultimately she had to make the call. Sorry I don't have better stories for you. Fingers crossed. @TOR did you figure out the food issues? When you switched you did it gradual right? -
TNT says they're matching the offer!

I'm sure those hikes were cool but you ain't livin unless you catch OJ's Bronco at the crime museum or make your way through the Mysterious Mansion. -
I gotta disagree with you there, Bill. I'm not a tenders guy at all but they are pretty delicious every time I have them. And last time I was there with my teenage son and nephews we went through 38 pieces of Texas Toast. I didn't get 1 even though guess who footed the bill.

Perfect! Thank you again. If you ever come to Michigan I'm buying you a beer. Or 4. I just hope my jinx powers aren't so strong that I awaken the earthquake gods or something. My past two summer trips have been Captiva right before Ian and Maui last year which still gives me nightmares and survivor's guilt.

Great info md. You need to start blogging. This sealed it for me, we aren't going to park hop. Kids agree, as well. They are older now 15 and 11 but we have always done the Orlando in the middle of summer thing and I think everyone is looking forward to a less stressful, less humid visit. I also assume we can leave and come back in the evening if we want to get lunch outside the park? Any tips on food scene? I miscalculated the number of full days I have in town. We have to see my bro in law one day, DL another, that leaves one full day and half of two flight days to see the touristy crap. I was thinking on the full day we try to cram in Hollywood sign hike/Observatory, Walk of Shame, and Santa Monica. Does that seem reasonable? I've heard we don't want to spend much time in Hollywood but it's worth seeing.

Awesome info, invaluable. Thank you again sincerely. So every ride is not available on Genie +? Am I understanding that correctly? I haven't been to the parks since fast pass. And no Genie + for Peter Pan's flight? That is major nostalgia for us and we will definitely want to hit it up. You think Alice will have a longer line than PP? I am kind of thinking maybe we just chill and slow play DL rather than park hop. Is there a "night time spectacular" type of show or parade at DL?
-
@mdmost I'm starting to get some anxiety because I haven't had any time to plan. Park day is going to be 26th, 27th or 28th. Leaning towards the 28th as the crowd calendars seem to indicate that would be the lightest. We will get there for rope drop, and I will happily purchase the lightning lanes. I'm undecided on park hopper. Looking at your list, here are the attractions at DL I think we will want to hit. Any advice on what to prioritize? You still think we can get through all of this and park hop to CA? Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye (uses same ride system as DINOSAUR at AK) Snow White's Enchanted Wish Pinocchio's Daring Journey Mister Toad's Wild Ride Alice in Wonderland Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage The Matterhorn (note this uses the same ride system as Space Mountain at MK) Space Mountain (same theme but completely different ride) Enchanted Tiki Room - longer show Pirates of the Caribbean - longer with more show scenes Big Thunder Mountain - some additional effects and scenery Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters - removable laser blasters make it a little better Peter Pan's Flight - technically some minor differences Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway - The queue is very different and cool - may be new to you and is worth it if so.

Chiming in on the weather in my corner of the Great Lakes (SE MI). Winters are indeed getting milder, seemingly. I love having 4 seasons, and there is nothing better than summer and fall imo in this type of weather leading into Thanksgiving and the Holidays. It just feels right. I don't mind winter, even. January. it's fun sometimes. February starts to suck because there's not a whole lot going on. But what really sucks imo is March and April. The weather doesn't turn the corner here until May consistently. It is really annoying to have 60 and 70 degree days in early-mid March and some sun, thinking Spring is here and then you get another 6 weeks of gloom and days in the low 40s. Politically I would like to hope we are in the clear and should remain solidly blue but we shall see come November. All of that said, having spent quite a bit of time there, I would take this weather 100% of the time over Phoenix/Scottsdale. My 15 year old on the other hand is already angling to try to attend ASU. To each their own, I suppose.
