  1. I must be having a mid life crisis. I just bought two novelty t-shirts online.
  2. Splash pad is 3 miles from my house. We have been there numerous times to get ice cream. Gotta love Merica.
  3. I was thinking about this yesterday and wondering why in the hell I thought Dallas was going to win this series in retrospect.
  4. They give you a mini cast iron griddle now. Still, I think their corporate overlords would be wise to pull the chicken off of the menu. Chicken sushi should not be a thing.
  5. I think this is sweep prevention motivation tonight. 100% imo this ends in 5 as a Gentleman's sweep.
  6. Agreed. I always thought if you wanted to throw up from eating gross undercooked food you could just go across the street to Trudy's. At least there you could get a Mexican Martini.
  7. Yeah I was not impressed. My son liked his bourbon steak that he barely seared on each side. The chicken, though...I was wishing I brought my Thermapen. I think I cooked it for 22 minutes before I felt ok about serving it to my daughter. I have shook my head in wonderment that U.R. Cooks was able to stay in business without e coli outbreaks back when I lived in Austin. Melting Pot sees your raw beef cross contamination stations, raises to raw chicken and says hold my beer.
  8. I agreed to go to this place today at my daughter's request. Last day of 5th grade, sure. Never been. Not much of a cheese or chocolate guy. But holy fuckballs. This place will give you raw chicken, and let you cook it yourself at your table, with a general guide offered up only if asked that you should probably cook it for at least 3.5 minutes per side. What could possibly go wrong?
  9. Yep 35-5. Bless You Boys. I misread your other post, thought you were saying you were 14 in 85-86. Anyway, yeah those were good times sports-wise when we were kids.
  10. I'm a few years younger than you, but I don't remember the 85-86 season. I think I came into NBA consciousness in 86-87. I was a MLB kid and the hometown team won the WS when I was 7 in 84 so I was hooked. I remember in 86-87 everyone getting worked up about not being able to get over the hump with the Celtics and so I started paying attention. And then it seemed like they were going to, and then Vinnie collided with AD, and then there's a steal by Bird happened and then everyone and everything became about beating Boston. That's why 87-88 is an easy sell for me. You also have some good points about 92. I certainly understand why he wasn't but I think the kid in me is still pissed that Isiah was left off. By merit he definitely deserved a spot.
  11. Fair, especially for the State of Texas. Other notable happenings: No MJ Finals went 7 Penny and C Webb are rookies Robinson scored 71 on the last day of the season to win scoring title Isiah tears his Achilles and if forced to retire Mutombo and the Nuggets first 8 to beat a 1 I'd still be partial to 87-88 but solid take.
  12. I recently finished a book, When the Game was War by Rich Cohen. Good book, I recommend it if you're a fan of the NBA. He posits that 87-88 was the greatest season in NBA history because it was more or less the confluence of 4 dynasties, and how their stories and rivalries were intertwined. He tells the story centered around Bird, Magic, Isiah and Jordan. It's a pretty compelling argument imo but even more compelling are some of the stories. I found the history and, I guess, tone, of some of the stories spot on. He talks about the respect and friendship that developed with Magic and Larry, he talks about how and why Magic and Zeke's relationship soured and he's real about stuff without sugarcoating it. Anyway, he said that when he surveyed people, some of the other seasons that got mentioned more than once or twice were the Last Dance year, the '08 Celtics beating the Lakers, and the 2016 72-9, 3-1 season. What say you?
  13. If you stay in Kaanapali, or Napili or Kapalua, you are going to have to drive on the bypass overlooking Lahaina every time you do an excursion away from where you are staying. That is pretty depressing, at least to me. The Honoapilani Highway that goes around the North end of the island is not really navigable as a way to travel to Kahului and other parts of the island. I would look at Kihei and Wailea personally. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C8Ad8cayrw3/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
  14. I had Mavs in 7. I now think this is a Gentleman's sweep. Be happy to be wrong.
  15. Game 2 should be in Dallas' favor in terms of adjustments. Defensively (Mavs), ok, they are playing better. Defensively (Boston) is doing exactly what they did in Game 1 and the Mavs just don't have an answer. I guess Kyrie isn't as unguardable as everyone thought he was. He's certainly not as unguardable as 77. Dude is amazing. But I think he's learning that he needs to play Defense if he wants to win a ring.
  16. Oh, and here is a great tip for flying there cheap. Wait for an elevated sign up bonus on the Chase Sapphire Reserve card (75k points). Sign up, meet the spending limit, send a referral to your SO, get the points for that referral, and then have them meet the spending limit. You can easily find SW flights from PHX, LA or other WC cities in the 30k rapid rewards miles range on southwest.com and you can transfer your points over from Chase. Easy peasy.
  17. If you insist on seeing the Arizona, do not spend more than one night in Honolululu/Waikiki. You will hate it. Also visit the memorial early as the trade winds pick up in the PM and sometimes they shut down the ferry that takes you out there. Best bet might be to book your return flight through HNL later in the day and book an inter island flight from wherever you're spending your week into Honolulu that morning. They're cheap, like $50.
  18. Mulch is cheaper than post oak, it's on sale for $2/bag at Lowe's. Cooked 4 butts on the WSMs and eventually pulled those into the oven and started my 6 racks of spares before moving them to the trailer. Sold out of brisket (6), butts, hot dogs (140), it's pop not soda (120), chips (90), and bottled water (140). Had one rack of ribs left over that the wife is going to auction on FB. It was a good night for the PTO but bittersweet for me as it is our last year at the Elementary School. I guess I'll have to see if the HS will take me in for football concessions as my oldest starts there in the fall. Maaaan those briskets were on point. Maybe the best I've ever done. I'll have to see if one of the guys got a picture of a slice of the fatty. My buddy who lives in Austin flew in who frequents Interstellar and Stiles Switch, and even he was raving.
  19. Absolutely. I listen to JJ's pods damn near daily at the gym. He regularly talks about how much he enjoys coaching his boys. They are like 7 and 9. He is a smart enough cat to know he won't get that time back. He also has been talking a lot lately about the grind of travel he has been dealing with in the playoffs while also running his company. It is surprising to me that he wants to get thrown into the coaching grinder for 2-3 years to get bossed around by LeBron. He doesn't come across as your typical meathead competitor. Just my .02 having listened to him talk about some of this stuff. It will be interesting to see how it transpires if he does the job. Not much of a Laker fan but hard to root against him which is something 2004 me would be punching 2024 me in the dick for even considering.
  20. It's been said before, but I cannot understand why JJ would do this. He has a great thing going and he gets to coach his kids.
  21. It makes ice with little beaded patterns. You can't eat the beads or the glue but it looks really cool for the IG.
  22. We remodeled, including the kitchen. Cool new LG fridge that does regular ice and craft ice. We use the shit out of the ice. Regular ice is almost always empty by the end of the night. Sometimes we have to tap into the craft ice. My wife preps lunches for the kids. She often fills my 5th grade daughter's Stanley (yes, stupid absurd ridiculous trend but whatever) with ice and water at night and puts it in the fridge overnight. I take my daughter to school, wife is already gone. The ice is melted, of course. I struggled trying to communicate this to my wife tonight. How do you do so without it being considered a personal insult? I had to send 3 texts b2b2b, each one more wordy and deprecating. She probably will still ask me tomorrow why I'm mad at her.
  23. I'm old enough to remember Isiah and Joe.
  24. What do people use to wash their vehicles at home to avoid paint swirls? I've never been a wash at home guy and I don't really want to become one but I hate those paint swirls. If my vehicle had swirls when I acquired it, am I already screwed and it doesn't matter how I wash it? I've also scratched it twice. I'm so annoyed. The first time was my kid trying to help me take the hard top off. The second was today at the power wash cleaning out the bbq pit. The damn hose had a puncture in it so the nozzle swung unexpectedly and made a nice 10-12" scratch on my passenger door. Both are just deep enough that the scratch remover polish I have fades them but doesn't remove them. I can't quite get a fingernail in either. Suggestions?
