Asshole jumps on the elliptical one removed from mine having a phone conversation so loud that I can't concentrate on the podcast I'm listening to. Obviously too self absorbed to notice the looks I'm shooting him or that I immediately get off wipe the machine down and move to a treadmill as far away as I can get from him. Can still hear him btw.
  2. How are things on the ground @Hank_Hill?
  3. Is there a setting to make your timeline chronological? Mine is still just a mishmash of bullshit. 24 hrs ago, 2 days ago, 1 hour ago, 4 days ago. I read up thread that the algorithm was updated to make the timeline chronological so I check in every week or so but it's still the same bs. I did not see anything in settings.
  4. Interesting read. https://www.civilbeat.org/2023/08/denby-fawcett-show-respect-for-lahaina-by-restoring-its-once-lush-wetlands/
  5. We need Bluesky. Come on Dorsey, get your shit together.
  6. Thanks Twice, it was the bolt. I found another one, what might have been the original, and it tightened right up. Of course this was after I threw a hammer through the drywall in the garage and told the wife to put the bikes in the minivan and she already left town.
  7. Fuck the conspiracy theory bullshitters. Fuck every last one of them. That stirs up the rage in me.
  8. Does anyone know anything about bike racks or lock washers? I have a maybe 12+ year old Yakima hitch rack that is supposed to hold 4 bikes. I haven't used it in a long time but my long time memory of it was I never trusted it to stay in. It has a bolt that goes in through the hitch cover, a flat washer and a lock washer that hug the top of the bolt against the outside of the trailer hitch. That's it. The instructions say you can put a cotter pin on the end of the bolt or a bike lock but neither "tighten" the bolt. You can tighten it against the trailer hitch as much as you want, it just keeps spinning and spinning. It's not sturdy at all, like it is not tight in the hitch and has a lot of play in it, and I can back it out using just my fingers from the other side of the trailer hitch. This does not seem right to me. My wife is planning on going somewhere with bikes tomorrow and I can tell she doesn't seem at ease with it.
  9. Just want to say that I was expecting a certain amount of hostility from the locals, even before the disaster. I know the history of the islands and had heard that tourists were not well thought of. What I experienced was the opposite. Of course it helps if you are respectful, empathetic, charitable and courteous but the people I encountered were as sympathetic to us for our travel plights as they were to other locals. I'm like I slept in a mall man, these people lost homes, it isn't the same. But the genuine feelings of concern and safety were real and very humbling. It makes me very much want to go back and pump money into the economy when the time is right. Of course I don't have much money left after this ordeal but that is a separate issue.
  10. Why do people think it is acceptable to take their shoes off on an airplane? Are you shoes really that uncomfortable? If so get some new fucking shoes.
  11. I understand why they shut it back down. When I drove through there were a bunch of people parked on the side of the bypass overlooking town taking pictures and videos and some even venturing down below into the blast zone.
  12. Holy fuckballs. New fire in Ka'anapali across from Honua Kai and the Westin properties. People being evacuated. Reading it's 80% contained. Good God can they please catch a break?
  13. I made it. It was horrible beyond words. Stunning, even after looking at everything online and on the news.
  14. Update bc I'm sitting in a parking lot on the highway back into town. They are letting residents and hotel guests with reservations back into town you retrieve their things starting at noon. Family is on their flight Phoenix bound. Sw rebooked me at 4 but I'm not going to make it I don't think. The adventures continue. I hate to be a burden on these folks but I think getting our shit myself is probably less of one than having to have someone box everything up and ship it.
  15. Awful. We are fine. I assume those sleeping in the airport were unable to find a hotel. We've been in an Airbnb in Kihei the past two nights. The host worked with me, very compassionate. Family is on a noon flight, I am on a 2 pm. Not expecting any hiccups but who knows. The resort says they will pack up our things and ship them to us at no cost when it is safe to go back and they have power. Got some cash for my wife and I was able to add my Amex on her phone to Google Pay.
  16. I've got a business platinum on me, they set me up with a one time PIN for a cash advance. Should be good, I will also give her some CC numbers. Thanks surly. On another note remembered my car keys are in my fucking bag at the resort, as well. Booked a ride and guess we will be driving back to DTW on Sunday if I can find my spares! Oh well we are not dead or homeless. Sick to my stomach looking at pictures.
  17. Yeah we are an Android fam. She has a Galaxy. Thought about that, it does have NFC.
  18. Cash advance on the Amex you mean? My bank card and 10 other cards are back at the resort. Good to know, I can give her a couple of numbers from cards I have stored on my phone.
  19. I have a question and my brain hurts so I'm posting it here. Don't want to hijack the other thread. We are flying out tomorrow, connecting overnight in Phoenix before a Delta flight home on Saturday. They had to split us up 3 and 1. Wife will take the kids. She only has an ID. I have I think $150 cash and an Amex. Assuming we won't be able to get our stuff before then what are my options to get her some credit or a safety net for traveling until we can meet up in Phoenix. I will give her the cash obviously.
  20. That is fucking devastating. Good lord. I will post some pictures and videos at some point from our vantage. I would have never guessed in a million years that the fires we were watching from the car could have caused that kind of damage. The wind was insane and it was obvious some structures on the South end of town were going to be affected but it just did not look like the kind of blaze that was going to level the entire town. Man oh man. I even had a video of us in the car waiting for the road to open kind of making fun of our predicament. Deleted and frankly ashamed. @Hank_Hill please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you or the local community out before Friday other than just getting out of your hair ASAP. RIP to those who were lost.
  21. We good. Do not worry about us...but thank you.
  22. We had our big summer vacation last year in Captiva. I need to stop going on vacations. Sorry Hank. Got a condo in Kihei. I'm going on 40 hours without a wink of sleep. Just awful. Family at breakfast in front of us this morning at Zippy's in Kahului talking about how they lost everything including a house that has been in the family for 60 years. So sad.
  23. If Gucci were open that would mean the Pint and Cork I'm staring at would be open and I would be drinking myself to sleep instead of typing on my phone with my arms inside my t shirt. Oh well, no complaints, I didn't lose anything other than a chill night at the resort and the chance to do the R2H before we go home. Obviously I planned it for our last day.
  24. Really? We were parked pretty close to the road closure for about 3 hours and could see the fire pretty closely. It looked to me like it was pretty well contained to the south end of town and pushing towards the water. Like maybe around Shaw St and South looking at the map. I hope the rumors are not true. We are at Wailea. I ain't sleepin tonight that's for sure. Chasing lizards and cockroaches away from the kids. I heard Kihei was also evacuated.
