  1. Rooney Mara herself is a proven actress and has been in many great films - off the top of my head I'm thinking The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Carol, and Nightmare Alley. She may not have the name recognition of some of the others, but she's far from untested. Not sure how spoilery this is but just in case: Overall, it was heartbreaking and extremely well-acted. I just finished it an hour ago and need more time to organize all my thoughts. I wouldn't name it Best Picture, but it should win Adapted Screenplay by a landslide.
  2. Yes, exactly. I think I'm talking myself into liking it more and more, lol.
  3. I think EEAAO will win Best Picture, but Banshees was slightly better. For Actor, I haven't seen The Whale because I wasn't interested enough to see it in a theater and I'm not paying $20 to stream it just because Aronofsky thinks all movies should be watched in theaters. I keep reading that people don't like the movie but like Fraser's performance (which is how I feel about Austin Butler in Elvis), and that it is a portrait of a fat person as imagined by thin people. At this point I'll probably pick Butler as the winner, since his performance really was great and biopics do well at the Oscars, but it's probably neck-and-neck between those two. Michelle Yeo will win Actress for all the reasons everyone else has said, and also Cate Blanchett already has two acting Oscars. I thought she was great in Tar, though, even though the movie itself was meh and So who's going to jump out of the audience and slap Jimmy Kimmel? Matt Damon? I kind of expect that to turn into an Oscars bit from here on out.
  4. NAMBLA is real. There was a South Park episode where Cartman accidentally joins it, and apparently membership has dwindled over the years, but it is an actual organization.
  5. 1. Pub trivia team name this week was "Cocaine Bear Stare" 2. Saw it tonight and it was exactly how I figured 95 minutes of a movie called Cocaine Bear would go. Much like Bullet Train in terms of violence/cursing/ridiculous. It was a great time if you go in knowing what you're getting.

I'll take Millennial Bullshit for $200 Link (I know it's from the UK, but still.)
  7. Ours was restored yesterday without any texts about crews. I had checked the outage map around midnight and the status hadn't changed from when I first reported it days earlier. The only text I got was when they restored power.
  8. His nickname now is "Up and Coming Woodsman", right?
  9. AISD said they'll let us know about school tomorrow by 3:30 pm today. Said that 20 schools are currently without power and besides that, many of the routes people take to school are impassible because of debris.
  10. Shit-ton of sirens went by just now near Parmer/Mopac. It's gonna be a long day for emergency workers.
  11. I know this episode is supposed to make us think about our need for connection with other people and how our love for them makes us better, but my kids were running around screaming like banshees earlier and I kept thinking "Bill got four whole years."
  12. Just finished Fleishman is in Trouble, a limited series streaming on Hulu. It was mostly funny, but as someone who had severe PPD, I had a very visceral reaction to episode 9 (Me Time) and, to a slightly lesser extent, the last episode. It has a great cast - Lizzy Caplan, Claire Danes, and Jesse Eisenberg, to name a few.
  13. You wish you'd show up in my erotic friend fiction. That is one of our differences.
  14. She seems so high in that interview. Love her in Russian Doll and Poker Face is on my list. Her voice has gotten much more raspy in the last couple of decades.
  15. Ha, I didn't even think about that.
  16. Reminds me of that line from the X-Files when Clyde Bruckman tells Mulder "There are worse ways to go, but I can't think of a more undignified one than autoerotic asphyxiation." I don't know, getting shot by your dog is up there.

Love Wheel also has a 3-legged shop dog named Joe. So, cherry on top.

Nope, his guitar is with my brother. That's my guitar. I call her Lucinda.

When my grandpa died in 2018, I got his 1952-ish Sears-Roebuck radio/phonograph. It hadn't been functional in ages, but my mom and dad fixed up the exterior so we could at least display it. My husband and I had always wanted to get back into vinyl, so a few months ago we finally got around to making it functional as a record player - kind of. My brother had always wanted the internal turntable to display at his place, so we removed it, cleaned it up, and got rid of the ancient, decaying wiring. We put a new turntable in the shelf where the old one had been, and added some powered speakers. Nothing really expensive or fancy, but now we can play records out of the refurbished device. It's pretty cool. Thanks, Pawpaw.
