  1. Because the focus became what he was doing and whether he had the right to do it, instead of why he was doing it. He didn't create that misdirection. Had people just asked the deeper question "why is he kneeling," or just said "fine, kneel," this may have been lead to a much needed and meaningful discussion on race relations in this country. It is not that cut and dry. It very well could be a first amendment issue if a private sector employer violates federal laws, as well as various state or local laws designed to protect and/or promote free speech, anti-discrimination, whistle-blowing, and labor conditions (for example). Additionally, there is the question as to whether those owners and their teams lose that private sector protection when they accept money to build those stadiums from federal, state and local governments, and receive government tax-breaks. To what extent do they become government actors and stand in those shoes? It is a sliding scale and clearly the NFL felt at risk or they would have hidden behind it through summary judgment.
  2. Scattershooting. Maybe something happens or has happened to that daughter, which is linked to the investigation. I can't fathom what or how, but she may be dead or missing. They've laid the ground work that Mom is overly paranoid and overprotective about her children. Have they said how Hayes' wife died? [Edit: Cancer? If so, forget this about Mom's departure] Maybe she takes her own life when the daughter dies or goes missing. Maybe Hayes doesn't remember any of this, and his son and daughter-in-law are just telling Hayes his daughter's in California and doesn't like to come home just to keep him from remembering how/why she's gone and to keep him on an even keel.

  4. Could have just bought this for about tree-fiddy
  5. 1990 Texas 14-13. R.D. Lashar misses the game winner.
  6. Dyer Stadium. I hated that place, and Delmar wasn't much better. I liked playing at Butler Stadium out on S. Main.
  7. Not to mention vacuum his carpet, hide the autographed picture of Jimbo, and remove the plastic covers from his sofa
  8. What's your pick? My gut says "Ready Player One," but Infinity War is catching up.
  9. Clearly you believe you're entitled to your own facts. I disagree. My current opinion is you are a self-righteous twat. I actually see that.
  10. You're entitled to your amateurish scientific [lengthy] opinion. I see Tatum hitting Fuqua and the ball ricocheting backwards off Fuqua's hands. Fuck the Steelers.
  11. How in the heck do we get five pages into this thread without anyone citing the travesty of "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1980) over "Apocalypse Now," "Breaking Away," and "Norma Rae?" Also, in my "Mathis or Sinatra," "it's Presley" moment ("Diner," 1982), in 1978 I'll take "The Goodbye Girl" over both "Annie Hall" and "Star Wars," simply because of Richard Dreyfus' performance.
  12. Perhaps, but I'm the douchebag that left the WR position out entirely.
  13. Well Homer, there's not any one of those four that Allen could replace without an argument. Good luck with that Asperger's though.

  15. Drew Pearson shoving off the Viking defensive back on the 1975 Hail Mary. Should have been called for offensive pass interference. Franco Harris' "Immaculate Reception" should have been waived off for breaking the "double touch" rule.
  16. I appreciate it. Thanks. I've experienced one flash-flood while backpacking. Spent about 3-hours pacing back and forth on high ground hoping and praying that my son made it above the water as well. That's enough for one lifetime.
  17. BBQ2Bayou If you're interested in backpacking you could hit the Eagle Rock Loop in Ouachita National Forest. We are starting at the Little Missouri Falls trailhead and doing the loop this weekend. Supposed to get down to 19 on Saturday, with snow showers. Should be fun (not really, but screw it).
  18. It isn't a "copout." The Dome was always sold-out until Bud signed the deal with Nashville. The price for keeping the Oilers was keeping Bud Adams. Bob Lanier, and the Houston power brokers, including Les Alexander, were convinced that Houston would get an expansion franchise almost immediately and the majority of fans were more than willing to let Adams haul ass. It just took longer than expected.
