  1. I'll say it again, but this is a situation where almost everyone is wrong. Not sure what the path out of it is, but I hope we find something.
  2. The Rodeo’s PAC is Energize the Expo. Not telling who the other group is.
  3. We have, and will continue to be, long term financial supporters of the Rodeo. Doesn’t make this ballot prop a good idea.
  4. D-League is also not leaving Cedar Park Center. My vote's going to depend on whether they get vocal on City of Austin prop B. It's a terrible proposition. As of now, the Chamber is neutral on Travis County A partially because of that threat.

Lotta tequila involved in this week’s podcast. https://austinanthem.org/media/
  7. We can’t have both because the current HOT rate is 17%, which is the maximum allowable by law. The agreement on the TPID is predicated on the tax rate going down by 2% after the current convention center expansion is paid off, bringing it down to 15%. Hotels have agreed to add a 2% tax for the TPID after that, bringing the rate back up to 17%. The 2% can be used for a wide variety of tourism purposes. If the county comes in and takes that 2% first though passage of prop A, the hotels are not going to subject themselves to an additional 2%, which would make the total rate of 19% the highest in the state.

Cut a Heart Walk promo on the way to the stadium groundbreaking. I’ve never been so motivated to nail something on the first take so I wasn’t late to the event.
  9. Common wisdom is that voting for this would kill the TPID deal between the city and downtown hotels, which would create a Mexican American cultural district and additional funds for homelessness solutions. Wish they had a better plan b/c I’m not sure what we are voting for. Expo Center definitely needs improvements, but I’ve also heard talk about using the money to build a large music venue on the property, which wouldn’t make any sense.
  10. I believe you mean county commissioner and not council member.

They said at the M&G last week that they were going to start selling premium club seats around the first of the year and that they hoped to have it all wrapped up by June.

Hopefully it was for something good and not a police sketch.

That flat surface is where the supporters stand is going to be. Will pretty much be my home 18 months from now.
  14. Wait, is the Governor saying that the ordinance repeal is making homeless people poop more? Because the act of pooping in public remains illegal.
  15. Yeah. This. They announced previously that particular location was going to be shut down. Well before the Governor decided to make a political statement today.
  16. Adrian has been pretty strong. Happy to not have the Simon Mignolet experience right now.
  17. Do we talk land development code stuff here or in the City Council thread? Either way, this is my new favorite Twitter account. https://twitter.com/ATXNIMBYHOMES
  18. Fun fact - Pro wrestler Dr Death Steve Williams died of throat cancer in 2009 at the age of 49.
  19. There are four sides to this story - homeless advocates, APD, Matt Mackowiak and Council. I’m sure that none of them are being completely up front.
  20. What's the problem with this one? Either the Mayor's not being truthful about direction to APD, APD's not being truthful about what they can/can't enforce, or people are making up stories about what they've been "told" by APD. Seems like this encourages folks to help find the truth.
  21. Didn't you go to high school with Edwin Waller? I mean, technically 183 wasn't a freeway when I moved here, so I should have said they've been there for at least the last decade or so.
  22. Those people at 183/Braker have been there for as long as I’ve lived in Austin.
