  1. Yeah, this exactly. Not sure what the other guy's point was.
  2. While this petition has a vague exemption for ACL and Trail of Lights, it’s definitely aimed at stopping the creation of such entertainment events in the future that would compete with COTA. Which is the real purpose of this petition - not the soccer stadium. ” Part 5. This ordinance shall apply to any sale, lease, conveyance, mortgage, or other alienation of any City-owned land that is or will be used as a sports stadium, sports facility, sports arena, and/or entertainment stadium, entertainment facility or entertainment arena regardless of the effective date of the sale, lease, conveyance, mortgage, or other alienation, except that this ordinance shall not apply to periodic events, such as the Austin City Limits Music Festival or the Trail of Lights, that have been held since prior to January 1, 2018.”

If you want in early on being part of the supporter arts, Austin Anthem is having our first volunteer organization meeting today from 2-4 on the rooftop at Whole Foods downtown.

Hagbard probably has the best answer here, but in short, it's because "That's what MLS needs it to be."

I'm willing to bet money that those people are wrong. There may be local investors, but PSV will be involved.

McKalla and Austin FC are happening no later than 2021. 2020 depends on a temporary solution. Construction begins as soon as the deal on the stadium is signed with the city, which will be by the end of the year. RFPs have gone out for construction-related services. COTA was funding an anti-stadium petition by out of town anti-semites and anti-trans people. They came clean about it on Friday, then renounced the group on Monday after the money was spent. Group claims to have suspended petition efforts but is really funneling them through another group. Last week, Anthony Precourt had a couple beers in a pub near the stadium site and CM Leslie Pool was in Columbus hanging with Save the Crew. Both show their commitments to their respective cities. Think that about covers it.

Sean Kelly, director of Save the Crew documentary, who spent a lot of time in Austin filming City Council over the summer (and interviewed a bunch of us) is also in the photo.

  9. What’s the benefit to burning your relationship with the entire soccer community? This move turned off any pro-MLS folks that were willing to buy tickets because they love soccer that much, and also made multiple groups who were pro-both team become #BoycottTheBold yesterday.
  10. The spin on Adler's phrase from the MLS notice is the douchiest part of the whole thing.
  11. Also, there’s no way they build anything resembling that rendering.
  12. Wait. I was on the Bond Election Advisory Task Force. What are you talking about?
  13. Absolutely. Though, there's a pretty big overlap between the pro-soccer crowd and the anti-NIMBY crowd on Council. So maybe follow it if you hate NIMBYs. Except for District 9.
  14. 100% this. If you think Austin died when they closed the Armadillo and don't appreciate how many more options we have today in terms of entertainment, food, culture and activity, then ANC is exactly the place for you.
  15. Had the chance to introduce Adler on stage last night at a Chamber event. He was crisp, clear and to the point. I wish Campaign Adler and Mayor Adler were the same person sometimes.

Probably the same as IndyAustin’s. Every responsible voter should just take their chart and flip it upside down.

  19. So, um, the GIF thread was the tried and true way to get my wife going for sexy time, so if I could just get access to that, everything would be cool. Spending my days arguing about soccer and NIMBYism doesn't seem to be a great way to build the rep count.
  20. I will also disagree with the basic premise that a citizen can only talk to two members, which started this twisted logic. People who show up, present reasoned arguments and are willing to be part of a solution can have influence with more than that.
  21. Groundbreaking coming next week. I’m sure IndyAustin will be out collecting sigs from the half dozen or so who show up.
  22. Feels like there should have been an election on this, but considering that “victory” would be hanging out with ANC types, I’m willing to let this one slide.
  23. Yeah, that might be the most nonsensical political argument I’ve ever read.
  24. See, they're gonna be Austin's team, because the players will mostly be random people off the streets of Austin.
