  1. My wife taught elementary for 20 years. She couldn't discipline or even touch a student. She had a 3rd grader who would get up in class, knock things off other kids desk and walk on the tables. All she could do was say "please set down". She would call the office and it would take 10-15 minutes for the assigned "discipline" person to arrive, while the student behaved this way. Then they would take him to the office, give him candy to calm him down and send him back. The real problem are spineless administrators and bullying parents. Teachers are forbidden to film the kids acting up so parents continually harass districts with threats because "my child wouldn't act that way. It's the teachers fault." Then the teacher gets written up. So by the time they get to high school they think they are bullet proof and to some extent they are.
  2. Yeah but I hear all kinds of stories about guys just like the one you know. Rooms/houses full of guns. The guy I took my ccl class from lived in an old double wide and had several more on his property. I think he had 8 gun safes on his property and probably had several hundred thousand $$$ in guns. He probably had some buried too. He carried 3 guns on his person at all times, even while he was in his house. And he had at least 5 rifles in his vehicle. He definitely liked guns.
  3. I knew a guy who had well over 1000 firearms. He had so many, he bricked in a 40' container and put a safe door on the front. Years ago when AR prices went nuts I ask him about selling some of his. He said he had at least 28 of them. When I told him if he sold them he could clear $70K he told me he was going to wait until they were outlawed and sell them before the ban went into effect because they would be worth more. For someone so gun smart, he was a dumbass. And I think the gun hoarding scenario is more common than most people think. I know a few people who have a LOT of guns and like you said, most people keep it quiet for security purposes.
  4. It could be argued that this woman had more influence on Rock and Roll as much as any musician in history but most people don't even know who she is. And the R&R HOF didn't even acknowledge her existence until 2017. Bunch of dumbasses.......
  5. And to save everyone a trip to Atlanta, it's all fake and appears to be an OF page. https://mandynews.com/fact-checking-new-glow-baptist-church/
  6. But wait...........There's more! https://www.ghpage.com/baptist-church-no-dress-code-advertise-seductively-dressed-women/265582/
  7. It takes a lot of power to knock someone this big out, man or woman. If you really want to take them down, stomp on their instep/toes. One good foot stomp and they aren't going anywhere. Especially if they're wearing flip flops.
  8. The Google's is trying to keep Texags down! Except when it's not. Delusion at it's finest. https://texags.com/forums/5/topics/3358895/1
  9. Pretty sure it was somewhere around the spot of or just east of the convention center.

    Getting old sucks

Lol! Free T is at 6.6. I suspected that might be it. My Dr is pretty conservative and I just want to have the right conversation with him. Thanks

    Getting old sucks

Since we seem to lay it all out here..........Anyone have problems with Testosterone? In my 60's and have a lot of the symptoms of low T. But I had it tested and I was way on the upper end of my age group, close to 800. But LH & FSH were high and free T was at the very bottom of the chart. I'm waiting for a consultation with my doc. Looking on Google just brings up a lot of dubious site and sales ads. I did try Google Scholar, which limits your searches to medical research papers. Tons of legitimate information from doctors and research facilities but most of it's in the form of medical files and doesn't translate to us non medical types very well.

    Getting old sucks

FYI I have several family members that work in insurance. A lot of the hearing aid suppliers pad the bill/scam people into overpaying for them. A lot of hearing aids are covered but fees related to them might not. They tell me of $2400 "fitting fees" which are basically "we'll help you pick one" fees that are not covered by insurance and you're stuck paying it.
  13. Forever and ever.......Whenever my wife pulled this I would remind her of my family motto. "I see your guilt and raise you indifference". If I do something wrong I'll own up and fix it. But when she used to pull up crap from years ago, I'd tell her to get over it because I'm past it. She can feel free to wallow in her own misery if it made her feel better but I'm not participating. And we're hitting 40 years this year.
  14. I understand your perspective too. My mom died when I was 14 after fighting cancer for a year. It was a very rough time in my life. I had an 8th grade teacher that ragged me because I was acting out somewhat and didn't seem to care about what I was going through. I eventually complete lost it in class one day and stood up and told him I was going to drag his ass in the hall and beat him down. I was really big kid, 6'1 290 lbs. I don't know if I could have beat a full grown man but I was willing to try. Luckily he remained calm and talked me off the ledge. And he never reported me either. As much as his continual actions/thought still piss me off today, I appreciate the fact that he remained calm and handled it the way he did.
  15. The sticking point is whether the school district would do anything. My wife taught 3rd grade for years. One year, she had a student that would get up in the middle of class and start throwing everyone's papers off their desk on the floor. He would walk across tables, slam lockers and get in other students faces yelling at them. She was not allowed to stop him because the principle was terrified that the parent was going to file a complaint with the district and cause mass headaches. All she could do was sit at her desk and say please stop. If he didn't, she had to call the office while the kid continued to act this way, until a counselor appeared to take him away. Then they would go to the office, give him candy and try to tell him why he was acting improperly. It went on for almost 5 months of the school year before they finally removed him from her class. I went to elementary school in the 60's. Sister Mary Gotti would have slapped him into next year and then thrown him out of school. I'm sure there's a happy medium but I know that a lot of schools will never completely discipline a problem student.
  16. I didn't start drinking or smoking until I was a junior in HS but when I did I made up for lost opportunities. Senior year I was unofficially voted Most Likely to be an Alcoholic. We drank/smoked at every dance, sporting events and even during school. Every Friday we would skip and go drink beer in the park down the street. We volunteered to work in a Headstart program and we would cut out early to go shoot pool and drink. We told our teachers we had been drinking at school and during events and not one of them ever turned us in. This is how wild the 70's were: At the last dance of my senior year a friend of mine and I sat in the school parking lot drinking Wild Turkey and beer. It was pouring rain and we didn't hear/see the Fort Worth cop/hired security come up to the car. He knocked on the window and we rolled it down enough to talk to him. He told us we couldn't sit in the car in the parking lot to go inside. He had to see us drinking. We went inside but kept sneaking out to drink more. On our last trip out I saw that my buddy had one of those Radio Shack hardhats with a spinning red light on top. So I put it one and we found the two cops standing in another lot. I turned the light on and we ran circles around them making siren noises. When we stopped we said " What are you boys doing in the parking lot? We think you been drinkin' and we're going to need to see some id's." It's at this point you would expect we should be handcuffed. Instead one of the cops said "Uh, I must have left me id at home, you're not going to arrest us are you?" We all started laughing and we went back inside. I still don't know how I made it through life without going to jail. And the buddy is a UT alum and though I haven't seen him in 30 years, I wouldn't be surprised that he reads this on Surly.

    Gym Pet Peeves

Just to clear things up........yes user name noted, and I'm old so Planet Fitness. After working out today I went to take a shower and noticed an awful smell coming from the shower. Before I stepped in, I took a close and saw brown flecks all over the place. Someone had waffle stomped in it. I told closest employee I could find and he put an out of order sign on it until he could clean it up. I mentioned it at the front desk as I was leaving and the woman said that someone had did the same thing on the women's side last week. WTH is wrong with people. You can do the Waffle Stomp Quickstep all you want at home but don't do it at the health club.
  18. Lol. "I can hit her at this point, right?"
  19. It's probably a carryover from when people didn't have cell phones or email addresses. You had to drop them off or mail them in. The only way of communicating back with an applicant was by mail or phone. I'd bet everyone uses a resume template and the address is another box to fill in.

    Vinyl

I was fortunate enough to save all my old vinyl from the 70's up. I saved all my stereo stuff but gave it to my son when he moved out. Since then I've been picking up vintage equipment when I see it. I bought this Kenwood unit at a antique store last week fir $120. It was $975 when it was made in 1972-73. And everything works perfect. The volume control pot is broken but it still works. I've got it hooked up to some 80's Bose 501 speakers. One day I'll figure out how to hook the quad stuff up. 🤔
  21. Clyde High Schools song used to be Wild Irish Rose. Don't know what the words were, but that was the melody.
  22. Nope. But a lot of guys keep the weight manageable until their mid 30's. I just laugh at older guys (I am one and know better) who think they're badass until reality punches them in the face. And I know there are older guys you don't want to screw with but they are far outnumbered by guys like the guy in the video.
