  1. You should be prepared for a lot of threes for two reasons: 1) SDSU pushes tempo so there will likely be more possessions 2) SDSU's pedestrian-level defense is built around packing in the paint even at the expense of allowing open threes. There are 7 teams in all of D-I who allow a larger percentage of attempted threes than the Jackrabbits. If Jase and/or Ramey are on tonight, they could crack 30. The question is if Texas allows Daum and/or Jenkins to do the same.
  2. Unless he's got eligibility left to play the 4, no thank you.
  3. I already have a tweet blaming Chip Brown in my drafts.
  4. If he goes anywhere, it's the NBA.
  5. I spoke to someone who covers Wake and he doesn't think the buyout figure Goodman reported last year is correct, he thought Manning's agent leaked that number as a way of relieving some of the pressure on his client's job status. Nobody knows what the actual guaranteed money is on Manning's deal because Wake is a private school and never released the contract details, so there's a good chance it's substantially lower than that report. Wake fans have been thirsty as hell for Shaka, and the numbers make some sense in theory. Beyond that, there will be a number of spots that open up in the coming days as schools start to fire their coaches. All it takes is one of them to make it happen; maybe nobody does, but it still seems like the most plausible path. My suspicion - and I'm speculating here, I don't know this for certain - is that it was quietly made clear to Shaka and his agent that his tenure here is closing sooner than later and it's in their best interest to find him another spot ASAP. So he *could* return, but neither side is working towards him staying in Austin. We'll know soon enough if this is legit or if I'm off-base. If I'm wrong, I'll own it.
  6. If what I'm hearing is correct, Shaka will not get fired this year. The powers that be on both the sports and non-sports sides of UT aren't interesting in paying the whole guarantee this year, which they'd be on the hook for if they can him. They will be super-supportive of him finding another landing spot though, which would offset a portion of the guarantee. There's some merit to the notion Shaka is interested in finding a new spot as well, his agent isn't sitting on his hands right now.
  7. They lost to Chaminade in Hawaii and Houston in the CBI.
  8. Chaminade was probably the worst Texas loss of my lifetime.
  9. Put this another way: everybody is saying basically the same thing. Wells, Davis, myself, whoever else are pretty much all saying "Shaka is back if he doesn't find another landing spot". The difference is that I think it's more likely to happen than some of the others do.
  10. This is the 21st century, sir; we give all of our cheerleaders an equal opportunity to coach the team.
  11. They're taking shots at every bubble team. They did the same to NC State yesterday, if memory serves.
  12. Buzz will *probably be coaching in Texas this fall, the question is if it's in Austin or College Station. The Aggies are so hot for him they're basically grinding on a rotting fence post outside Blacksburg right now. *I should caveat that, maybe the Aggies fuck this up.
  13. Konate is medically cleared to play today lolllll
  14. What I think is happening is separate from what I'd want to happen, but what I'm hearing is that all a run does this year is change the market rate for Shaka elsewhere. Maybe if they make a FF then the math changes to the point CDC would keep him around, but that's a bridge I don't imagine we'll have to cross. Bear in mind I started hearing rumblings before the TCU game was even over, so I think this has been gearing up for longer than we knew.
  15. Imagine how many more teams would be willing to take on his salary if he took this team to the Elite Eight. There's incentive for both sides of the Shaka debate to want this team to make a run.
  16. Drew is still at Baylor because coaches across the country hate him with the fire of a thousand suns. I have yet to run across another D-I coach who is as universally disliked as Drew and it's the reason most ADs don't really consider him for gigs. Bill Self and Barnes would love to lock him in a trunk and drive the car into a lake, just to name two. Marshall - while an asshole - is still at Wichita State because the Koch Brothers (yes, those Koch brothers) fund him like he's coaching Kansas. All he has to do is play footsie with another school like Alabama and the Kochs kick in some more cash. Also, Beard is interested in the Texas job. Whether he takes it if/when it comes available is up in the air - others have astutely noted the financial barriers, to name one issue - but he's quietly made it known he's up for the interview. This surprised me when I learned of it because of his deep roots in Lubbock, but it seems to be true from what I've gathered.
  17. All Jennifer Connelly is Jennifer in her prime.
  18. This is correct as I understand it now.
  19. Yep. 37.6% in '90 34.1% this year
  20. Pete Davidson is making out with Kate Beckinsale in public, so anything is possible.
  21. The Wake angle makes a lot of theoretical sense because getting Shaka for a reduced contract helps Texas make the numbers work and helps Wake deal with their buyout numbers. Say Wake decides to pay Shaka $2m/year, that's $2m/year Texas won't have to pay him but he's still getting $3m/year of the remaining Texas guarantee. That also means Wake is getting a $3m/year coach for $2m/year, meaning they get $1m/year freed up to offset Manning's buyout. It's mutually beneficial, from a numbers standpoint.
  22. Just to quantify how much the game has changed: The 1990 Elite Eight Penders squad shot 652 threes in 33 games, which was 19.76 per game and 27.45% of their total shots. This Texas squad has taken 774 threes through 31 games, which is 24.97 per game and 43.2% of their total shots.
  23. Their current basketball coach is a data point in the opposite direction, they've very specifically waited until his buyout was lower to make a move on him.
  24. He's #1 on their list as of now.
  25. If it were football, maybe. The donors don't want to spend that kind of cash for any of the other sports.
