  1. Billy Embody (on3 LSU) had updated on McKinley and Mack yesterday for those interested in a non-Texas pov
  2. Your story and these screenshots (spoilered below) are probably different recruits but it cracks me up because there's two scenarios: A) They're both Livingstone and the texags version is just so off base. And they think getting rid of Mashack will fix the problem B) They're different recruits and they somehow manage to screw up lots of visits in entirely different ways Side note - I'm working on my PhD in a field adjacent to organization theory. Would there be any interest in a write up on organizational culture with a focus on sports? Like what culture actually means, how to establish it, maintain it, etc. An example that stuck out to me recently was Kibble's commitment interview with IT where he said that what drew him to Texas is how committed the players were to working during his visit. That's a big deal - culture is established for prospective members of any organization before they join e.g., during job interviews (or in this case during an OV). Are croots seeing a culture of work or weed?
  3. Wells is saying the player is committing today but going public in the next few days So I guess nothing today
  4. hmm yes I wonder where that notion comes from
  5. ATHs we've taken since 2018: Jelani McDonald, X'avion Brice, Savion Red, Ja'Tavion Sanders, Juan Davis, Kelvontay Dixon, Jaden Hullaby, Bru McCoy, Jordan Whittington, Michael Williams 1 All-American, 1 good contributor, 2 guys contributing at other schools, 1 bust, and some young guys with the jury still out. Not too different than the rest of our recruits in the same time period.
  6. Subtitle says one good, one bad ETA: TFB says it is probably a decision date for this weekend. And that although they've long felt comfortable about JJR, that has changed and they now think Texas may need a hail mary to win the recruitment. If that's the case, props to Gideon/TJ for keeping Myles Davis and Josh Lair as options.
  7. Nahlin says JJR isn't announcing tonight
  8. What? That's someone sharing Nahlin's post on the LSU board. He was throwing shade at Ketch
  9. fwiw the slow people he's referring to are OB. Ketch (allegedly, I wouldn't know) said on a stream that 60% doesn't mean anything, it's a coin flip, not a real prediction, w/e
  10. Langi wrote an article about it on IT before the visit This is part of the larger issue with using the NFL draft to grade ranking. There are a ton of variables that affect draft prospects that are not at all relevant to a high schools football player's ability, however you define that. School, head coach, position, position coach, S&C, etc. Somewhat related, I think a lot of the shifting variables in CFB right now increase the importance of evaluation compared to recruiting.
  11. Looks like that's the fong prediction for Weston Davis. You can see OT 15 and TX 35 at the top, which is where Davis is ranked.
  12. I think concerns about TE are a little overblown. Yes it will suck to lose JT and not have someone of his caliber, but an elite TE isn't really necessary to have a great offense. Let's not forget that Sark's 2020 bama offense was incredible with Miller Forristall and Jahleel Billingsley as his top two options.
  13. Gerry has said Calhoun is a tackle, fwiw.
  14. a quarter of the posts are just people talking about how much fun the thread is
  15. I think we agree here. I'm saying Simmons is great but not at the expense of the rest of the roster. I know the other guys I mentioned are at other positions. That's why their individual value is lower but collectively it could be higher. Von is great but the point is he was a super bowl MVP and eventually still let go because of the contract he wanted. And Simmons, no matter how highly ranked, still has like a 33% chance of busting in college. He isn't a known quantity in the same way an NFL vet is. More generally, equifinality reigns. A place like Texas shouldn't get locked into a position of "oh we have to do X in order to succeed." There are many paths to a championship available to us. Let's not overextend ourselves on a single one. That's how you end up in aggy's situation.
  16. I don't necessarily disagree with you, but one of the guys you mentioned (Von Miller) also shows that even the most valuable players can't always be retained because resources are finite. Otherwise he wouldn't be in Buffalo. I think it makes perfect sense to not overspend on Simmons if it allows for us to grab other priorities like McKinley, Robinson, etc. We don't know any of the actual numbers on this board so we can't really make informed opinions, tbh.
  17. So, just for follow up, this class is about the best case realistic scenario currently, minus Simmons and the high end OOS guys we're after. 21 commits with a 279.54 rating. So we're really not too far off. Just closing on the guys we look good for would be a really good start. Top five is usually 290+, top 3 is usually 300+. There's probably around five spots left in the class. Definitely some for OL, probably another IDL and WR, then BPAs. So, our best path to a top 3-5 would be Simmons, the OL, and maybe pulling off a random five star or taking some extra guys. Add Simmons and Mormon Johnny = 290.57. Add Daniel Calhoun and Brandon Baker = 301.20. Hearing they're confident about OL is a good sign. Oh and by the way UGA's class is already at an absurd 278.85 with 17 commits.
  18. It didn't quite reach the mythical status that the aggies have assigned to theirs, but it was the kickoff point for the 2018 class coming together and it was hyped as our big event the next couple years. The hype (for us) was really about all the prospects that are coming in for it though. Every school is going to have some kind of thing to do for their big OV weekends and pool parties are easy enough to do. So I guess the 'pool party' itself wasn't as prevalent in our dialogue but it was just a big recruiting weekend. There are some between our 18/19/20 and their 22/23/24: 18/22: Some momentum in spring, big weekend comes together and kicks off a ton off momentum (Sterns flip/bags of cash), everyone happy 19/23: Less enthusiasm (coming off 7-5/8-4) but still fixable, pool party is a chance to recover momentum 20/24: we had the sugar bowl to sell but still couldn't make headway, they're coming off 5-7
  19. We did the same thing with success back in 18/19. It was on campus at greg, not an apartment complex, but it's not that weird. The way they talk about it is weird though.
  20. IIRC his junior year was a spring league with only 6 games due to COVID and his senior year was normal. His team and competition were all kind of a wash. Didn't play much as a sophomore. He's been in training/camps/etc forever but doesn't have as many reps as most. I think he committed before even being a varsity starter.
  21. Also, there's still value in having some OKGs in the class. There are a lot of theories out there on the causes and consequences of turnover (e.g., transfers and graduates). I'll spare the details but the names will give you the gist of it: person-organization fit, organizational commitment, leader-member exchange, etc. Culture is kind of a boogey man in sports, but it's a very real thing. And having some guys that are more likely to stick around at a high turnover position that's usually filled with divas can't hurt. I don't know if Livingstone is that guy, but IIRC he was a Texas fan growing up so that's at least a start.
  22. woah woah let's noot forget Marcus Washington and Kennedy Lewis
  23. The position numbers add up to 26 but I just listed the top targets I could think of. DL especially is a crap shoot right now
  24. made some edits with strikethrough and italics And of course we'll probably find a couple kids that rise their senior year
  25. Ah yes, that game and comeback was super fun until Nick fucking Rose shanked the tying PAT Heard's performance was an unfortunate casualty of my repression of that game. Was.
