  1. Also (tangent incoming) but if I were developing an OL I would totally have them do boxing. The sport is all footwork, balance, angles, and punching. Exactly the skills an OL needs. It burns a bunch of calories so you can't do it too much but as an offseason conditioning thing I think it would be great.
  2. This. Goes with dual sport athletes as well. If a guy is playing soccer (Christian Jones, 285lb as a recruit) or basketball (Trevor Goosby, 280lb), they're not going to be 330 pounds. It also can help with development timelines within a class i.e. guys coming in <300 know they'll need a couple years before playing significantly. That's less important tho. I get that it's currently in vogue to shit on everything Herman did but this isn't a totally incorrect way to recruit OL. Our best two OL in the last decade were 260lb (Cosmi) and 275lb (Williams) as recruits. Ideally you recruit a mix with the caveat that last class had a glaring need for early contributors.
  3. I want to clarify for those that didn't listen that Pate did not name USC/Addison, A&M, or Texas. He was talking about things in general. His descriptions match with our understanding of things at these schools, but I don't want this board to run with his info in a way that he didn't intend.
  4. Also, it happened organically. It wasn't brokered through a collective or anything.
  5. Yep, the car deals are one year leases. https://www.on3.com/college/texas-longhorns/news/bijan-robinson-lamborghini-austin-deal-parternship-texas-longhorns-football-running-back-nil-name-image-likeness/ "Right now, we just want to have our brand associated with Bijan’s brand because it’s brand exposure for both parties. He wants to exude excellence on the field. That’s what Lamborghini’s brand is associated with: exuding excellence and top-notch standards. That’s really what we’re looking at the biggest piece of this partnership is between us.”
  6. You're right that stuff gets posted here that isn't super public, but you're really trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. All the stuff that you mention in this post is likely nothing compared to what recruits hear from other coaches/people negative recruiting Texas. Also, recruits aren't going to give any shits about the near hiring of Stoops or the hiring process lmao You also need to understand there's a ton of stuff that doesn't get posted on here. People like ctj and some of the 9.95ers exercise a lot of discretion before sharing information because they care about how it affects the program. The best example I can think of was Bru's transfer v1. The news of his intention to transfer leaked on Jan 24th but had been circulating in Texas circles for at least a couple days beforehand (at least the 22nd as that's when I learned about it). But nobody said anything because that was information that could negatively affect our chances in the recruitment -- see Helton and players cornering in his room to pressure him to stay once it did leak. Basically, just chill out and be thankful for people that share info on this board. It makes recruiting much more fun and gives us an inside look that we wouldn't have otherwise. And they're not going to share anything that they think would hurt the program, except maybe Carl, but I wasn't around much during his time lol
  7. There are millions of people that discuss the performance of the Texas head coach. Nobody on this board will say anything about Sark that these recruits don't see on twitter or hear from other coaches daily That's very different from spilling personal, private information about the recruit The two aren't similar. This isn't that hard
  8. Seems like Bama has been expecting him to flip (to Michigan State though). Not sure how long that has been the case or if they'll circle back to Williams.
  9. Worst case scenario we can find a late riser on the OL. There's always some kids that pop up their senior year eg Christian Jones. Before people come at me, Jones was the 5th OL take in '18 and he's a solid backup, the issue is not recruiting/developing a better tackle in the four cycles since. Recruiting a Christian Jones every year as your last take would be great. It doesn't seem like Flood's approach, but I still think the approach of growing an athletic OT is fine.
  10. Couple scratches for the late July weekend per Suchomel: Hicks is going to OU instead and Hill will not stop by before going on his A&M OV
  11. I wonder how the aggy bag men are doing right about now Imagine you threw in a pretty sizable chunk of change last year. You didn't drain your savings, but mid five figures is still a lot of money. You worked hard for those insurance commissions and had planned to take the family to Destin. It was well worth the sacrifice to sign the best recruiting class ever. Whoop! A couple months later, your head coach puts on a very public show to say you don't exist and your contribution did not influence the class. You didn't do it for recognition though. And who does Nick Saban think he is?? He's just scared of what we're building in aggieland. Then, your most hated rival gets hot on the trail. They get some three star that's overrated because of his name and a bunch of your targets commit to follow him. It makes no football sense. They went 5-7! You want some good news so you turn on the Billy Liucci show to hear about the upcoming pool party. He's lamenting other schools for paying recruits. You open texags, get your daily rundown of politics, and go to the football board to find the entire fanbase mad at you. "We're behind on NIL! Our BMDs better step up," they say. Admittedly, some of the comments hurt a bit. You could have been drinking bud light lime on a beach that's even nicer than Port A. It's ok. You trust Jimbo. It's getting late, but you delay your nightly routine to look over your budget and your commission benchmarks. Now that you're a manager it'll take two less years to save a bag compared to last time. Then back to the usual - yell at the kids to go to bed, wife says no, polish the aggie ring, and tuck it into the maroon covers. Goodnight. I'd imagine that kinda sucks
  12. Two things that seem somewhat in conflict to me - The common sentiment that we only have 3 quality commits. I assume that S'Maje Burrell is not among the guys they count - The recognition that they really need LBs. They say Anthony Hill is the only piece they're missing for a national championship Burrell would be the third highest rated LB that Jimbo has signed at A&M and the highest since 2020. At a position of need. But he's bread. Ok then.
  13. Suchomel is expecting two commitments this weekend (there's a somewhat confusing exchange in some comments that I read as him hinting one is Muhammad and neither are Jordan Matthews)
  14. They're also ignoring the whole part about some of these guys committing to play defense for a team without a defensive coordinator
  15. OB Warm Room I like the sourced evals on our commits. I think it makes the desire for a 5th OL pretty clear
  16. Muhammad already did a top 6 in April so hopefully he's going public
  17. OB interview with Jalen Hale TLDR he says we're top three but who knows
  18. Pretty sure Banks is just tweeting out every time a prospect decides to announce x1 Hook Em - 6/27 3:01PM - Derek Williams Jr commits at 5:51PM x2 Hook Em - 6/27 6:04PM - Billy Walton III commits at 2:01PM the next day x3 Hook Em - 6/28 3:06PM - Johntay Cook commits at 12:50PM the next day x4 Hook Em - 6/29 10:00PM - ???
  19. I'd love to see it but at some point the game theory for croots says not to join a class with too many other players at your position The following counters would be 30 and I imagine it'd be tough to add more guys past this QB 1 RB 2 WR 5 TE 2 OL 5 DL 5 LB 4 DB 6
  20. Each site has their own rankings and usually writers will use their site's rankings in their articles Most posters on here and other boards use the 247 consensus rankings. They're both five stars on there
  21. Bible verse that Cook got tattooed on his arm (around 7 minutes into his behind the scenes video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32bPUTWqHc4)
  22. "Hey Texas fans, let's get some more trophies" love it lmao
  23. Seems like there's a consensus among our commits on who to be recruiting
  24. Just want to clarify one thing for the thread - Per the Texas state law, NIL contracts can't extend beyond their time on campus. Spoilered the relevant text So any legit NIL contract will have a clause that stipulates that the contract ends if/when the player exits the athletic program. So when guys transfer or go pro, their deals will automatically end. Duration isn't a factor for some of the thoughts in this thread like repping Austin companies and transferring or needing to renegotiate terms once they're in the NFL.
