  1. While we're at it can we throw some of those pet streaming cams in the dorm to check in on them? We could modify the ones that dispense treats to dispense bags
  2. @RGBIII you've got an extra 10k if you hit your goals Given a goal of 50 people at 50/month + 150 at 25/month + 150 at 10/month That's a total of 2500 + 3750 + 1500 = 7,750/month or 93,000/year Minus 10k in expenses leaves 83k to distribute to the players or just under 12 grand each
  3. Part of NIL is having a contract with the player. The university compliance department reviews the contract before time to make sure it doesn't violate any laws. So that shouldn't be an issue
  4. this is what belongs on the billboard
  5. so easy to make I couldn't not do it https://gfycat.com/offbeatforsakencommabutterfly (I don't know why this won't embed. Just has our logo on his robe)
  6. The color thing is dumb af... they literally provide the exact color and much more in the brand book. Helped a friend order a new tailgating tent (not from UT) two weeks ago with the correct burnt orange. We used the color codes for shirts in college, also not directly from UT. So if compliance is getting antsy about players using it for NIL deals, that's a big yikes My take based on my personal/professional experience with compliance/regulatory boards is that there are two types of people: One that understands the purpose of the rules they enforce and work with you in a collaborative effort to find solutions that both enable your work and protect vulnerable populations; and a second type that just reads their rulebook and slows everything down to no one's benefit, except their own as they create needless work to justify their existence. Based on the perception of our AD we've probably got a lot more of the second type than the first
  7. Should've given Stan Drayton the S&C and recruiting coordinator jobs as well tbh (I generally agree with golfclap's point tho)
  8. Oh hey a surly tangent that I'm qualified for. FWIW I have a master's in clinical research and work managing a couple federal healthcare research projects The 20th century was like the wild west for research. There was a huge surge in interest but minimal regulation. The Tuskogee syphilis study was probably the most fucked up one in the US, but some of the other biggies were the monster study (1939), project mk-ultra (1953-73; yes it's real, no they didn't invent mind control), and the infamous stanford prison experiments (1971). And none of that even comes close to the fucked-upness of the Nazi human experiments or Japanese Unit 731 during WW2. Of course, there was also a lot of good, ethical research that revolutionized medicine and broadened the scope of human knowledge. Watson and Crick famously discovered the DNA double helix structure in 1953 (shoutout Rosalind Franklin), and the field of psychology basically went from Freud's horny fever dreams to the respectable field we know today due to the focus on studying the mind during this time. Importantly, all the terrible stuff led to a ton of regulation and a focus on ethics. The Nuremberg trials led to the establishment of the Nuremberg Code in 1948. It advocated voluntary participation, informed consent, avoiding harm, and ensuring quality. You might be thinking 'no shit,' but it's a big deal. In the US, congress responded to the Tuskogee syphilis study by passing the National Research Act of 1974, which would result in the Belmont Report (1979) that still guides research ethics today. You'll notice all the stuff above happened before that point. None of it would be approved today. Hell, it takes a month for my review board to approve an eight word change to our protocol. Modern research in the US is well regulated and very conscious of its ethical concerns. It's also an important part of our power on the global stage, but that's a different conversation. Bonus fun fact: when a researcher is awarded a grant, they don't make any money from it.
  9. Sark runs a lot of max protect, so that should help our OL provide time for some long developing routes. Though I’m a bit skeptical how it’ll work with our lack of WR talent and the Big 12 preference to drop 7/8.
  10. I'd look at Owens as Overshown's replacement. He'll need a year to learn the position. Would be cool to seem them together though. They'd be an even more athletic combo than Malik + Gary Johnson, which coincidentally was the last time both starters at the position were good.
  11. This logic is right but the flip side is that you can't count on a player to do things that they haven't done before. I took the bait for the 2019 defense and got burned (but not as much as our DBs did ayoo) Agree with points 1 and 2. The quality of our staff is really the basis of any and all optimism for next year imo But the cap on my excitement is OU and ISU. OU has gone all in on next year and is primed for a title run. Iowa State returns a ton and is a legit top ten team, talent be damned. Sure we could contend for the conference and both games are winnable but I think it's wrong to rank us higher than either of them
  12. I agree that this isn't a rebuild but we have some holes on the roster and we need a lot of things to break right for 10 wins The OL has talent but 3/5 of our starters next year will be juniors or younger. We've talked ad nauseam about the benefits of letting OL sit and cook for several years so let's not ignore that now. The good news is that Flood and Bijan will make them look average at worst Our WRs not named Whittington, Omeire, Moore, or Smith don't deserve any hype. Seriously, no one else has been a net positive on the field. And those four guys all have major questions about them. Even if our WR and TE rooms overperform, they're still going to be a significant step down from Bama last year. I've been watching a lot of Sark film and he's a very good playcaller, but his skill talent was the reason Bama was an elite offense last year. I also have some questions about how some of his principles will match up against Big 12 defenses, though I do think he'll adapt quickly if some parts of his offense aren't working I don't quite get all the hype for our DBs. Jamison had a good stretch last year but we lost our best DB to the draft and will have two new starters at safety. I love Gideon's recruiting so far but he and Joseph are going to be a big step down from Jimmy Lake and PK's defense puts a lot of pressure on his safeties. Run D will be stout but our pass D is going to have some ups and downs. Jamison/Thompson/Dunn/Crawford should be a good rotation but reports of them looking elite don't mean much when they're facing our WRs. My take is that this roster has a base of 8 wins with each positive development adding another win i.e. Omeire and Wiley are the real deal and we're at 9, BJ Foster remembers how to play D and Jerrin Thompson exceeds expectations gets us to 10, Flood gets the line coached up to be the best in a decade and we're at 11, we figure out the nickel spot and our corners match the 2017 team and we're at 12, etc.
  13. Ketch/OB practice notes for the weekend
  14. The only reason I posted it was for the comment about it being a one QB class. I’d rather give the context than misquote like what often happens. Trust me, I spare the board from a lot of OB stuff but if there’s a useful anecdote I’ll share
  15. OB also did percentages for 2022 targets and Ketch did a rundown of his top 15 2023 prospects Lotta garbage in there but one thing interesting is that Maalik apparently told them it will only be a 1 QB class unless there's a transfer before the season.
  16. In the PK thread. It's 2100. Always take that over.
  17. FWIW Michigan fans like Linguist so far. They landed a 5* CB recently and seemed to think he was a big reason why. Maybe the problem at A&M wasn't Linguist and Joseph, but some other common factor...
  18. Wait so was there anything about Ernest Cooper? Not gonna lie, I forgot it was Ernest IV and had mixed the two up since other people mentioned his name
  19. OB article on Malik Agbo It seems like every 9.95er really likes Agbo's personality. IIRC he's the one that went to pylon 7v7 and ran some routes at TE for fun. Couple other OB notes: Feel good about Bryce Anderson. Think the Cali WR is a strong USC lean. Maalik just gives us a prayer. We have a better shot with Hudson than people realize.
  20. I won't stand for Collin Johnson slander Collin Johnson but healthier would be a good goal, but Omeire's not off to a great start there
