  1. This post may not go over well right now, but from what I've seen, the data you're asking for will paint Herman in a good light. Improvement in a coach's second year is typically an indicator of success. I'm not sure of any analysis that looks at improvement in year 2 followed by regression in year three. Also, Herman still has almost a quarter of his third season left (including a bowl) so it's a bit premature to really quantify it. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/77720-college-football-whats-with-the-second-year-coaching-success I suppose that this NYT article would interest you, but I don't think anybody expected a national title this year, and it's drawing the cutoff at four years. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/03/sports/ncaafootball/hire-a-coach-wait-three-years-huskies-chris-petersen.html I think you're going to have a hard time finding data that supports your view, but if you tinker enough maybe you'll find something. I also think that the worst things about Herman aren't represented in the data so this is the wrong approach to take anyways.
  2. I think the first half of this video is worth watching for everybody. It talks about how Belichik is using Cover 0 on the NFL's best defense and the principles he follows when blitzing. Todd should watch it at the very least. Like satya is pointing out here, the issue isn't just the blitz calls, it's how they're coached. The calls are predictable, which means the offense sees it coming and makes the proper protection adjustments so that there are available blockers. But then our LBs and DBs are just running straight in to those blockers because they haven't been coached to properly time and space themselves. I was unsure of my position on Orlando until the K-State game. Even though KSU and ISU have been our two best defensive performances, they're the games that have sunk my opinion of Orlando. Our guys are playing better individually, but Orlando is still putting them in really bad positions even with a bye week to fix himself.
  3. Sorry I did not realize you were an LSU fan. It's in your name but it didn't register that there would be non-Texas fans in this thread. I still don't really understand the comment. With Mack we ended up in purgatory because of his accomplishments and the goodwill he had built up. Herman does not have enough of either to coast for 5 years. I think he'll either win big or the team will implode dramatically. Our program has had extreme highs and extreme lows every year under Herman so far. Eventually one of those two will win out. And it's not looking good. I think Malzahn is a more apt comparison than Mack. And sorry I didn't mean to take a shot at LSU. Y'all are hot right now and probably have a great future but there are still lots of questions this off season. I have no idea how it will play out but you'll be one of the most interesting teams in the country this offseason
  4. Pretty sure the next few years will be the same for both of us bud
  5. Washington and Naivar's units have at least shown a ton of improvement over the course of the season. Good DB play and stout run D by the DL are the only things holding this defense together. For me there are three tiers of coaches right now: Fire: Orlando, Warehime, Mehringer, Meekins Can see both sides but I don't personally have a strong opinion: Washington, Naivar, Herman, Drayton, Giles Keep: Hand, Beck
  6. The WR class this year is stacked. Duvernay has no chance to go in the first round. He and Collin are both Day 3 guys. Duvernay has a small chance to go late on Day 2 but I don't think it's likely given how many other great WRs there are.
  7. Plus, if you look past P5 wins to G5 wins, La Tech (8-1) has more wins than UTSA (4-5) and Texas State (3-6) combined That really doesn't mean anything at all but it's a fun fact
  8. On the one hand, you might be right that one of our top guys makes a play on the ball that Owens gave up. On the other, maybe don't put your raw true freshman box safety in 1 on 1 coverage on a game-deciding play.
  9. There's no way LSU would take Achane and Evans right? I don't know if they're on Achane as a RB or WR
  10. Horny can coach, just not on the field. There are videos of players going to QC assistants during their off-time and breaking down film and talking about technique. He might be able to sit in on position group meetings as well but I'm not sure about that. A substantial portion of teaching occurs off the field. E: I should add that I don't know whether Horny is our main ST guy, but it's certainly possible for a QC guy to handle a lot of responsibilities for something like that.
  11. So this randomly popped up on my timeline. These edits are so terrible. Then I saw Demas's and realized they didn't even edit the body. It's literally just faces poorly shopped into on to the same background.
  12. He says that Collins already used his Texas OV but aren't we saving that for Kansas?
  13. This is right. That's why there's like 10 pro bowl QBs every year.
  14. The entire thing was about wins at home so I don't see how those are relevant
  15. I actually think Elko is really good. Their defense will fall off a cliff if he leaves. Just look at the roster he's had to work with the last two years.
  16. If Elko really is checked out and it's affecting his recruiting, I bet Jimbo is pissed. He'd never stand for a coach that quits on his team and leaves behind a mess when they leave.
  17. Each recruiting class has a limit of 25 scholarship signees. Walkons don't count towards that and early enrollees can be counted back towards the previous year. I honestly have no idea where our counter is at, but Luke now counts as a part of our 2018 class. I really don't think it matters moving forward. It will only become an issue if we're trying to sign like 28 or 29 guys in a class but it's unlikely that will ever be the case.
  18. Eagles to X, Smith in the slot, Duvernay to Z has always seems like the most obvious answer to me. Eagles won't be as good as Collin in the short game, but he'll be better than Epps. Duvernay is better in the slot than at Z, but I don't think the difference between he and Eagles at Z is as large as the stats would indicate. Some of that is Sam's progression over the last year. Eagles at X is the biggest question mark, but IIRC he did spend his freshman season there so he should know the position. Eagles/Smith/Duvernay gets your three best receivers on the field.
  19. Haven't seen a Milroe update but here's on from OB Take, for instance, last week … Milroe was pulled in the second quarter because Tompkins thumped Clear Creek 70-21, but his stat line was pretty ridiculous. Milroe finished his night 4-of-4 passing for 94 yards and 1 touchdown. On the ground, he carried three times for 128 yards and he scored on ALL THREE CARRIES. That’ll work.On the year, Milroe has completed 77 percent of his passes for 774 yards with 8 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He has rushed for 158 yards and 3 scores on just 10 carries.
  20. I'll follow up with the stats. Count (per snap). I threw in Lil'Jordan's stats for fun. Devin Duvernay: 210 snaps. 39 catches (.186) / 377 yards (1.800) / 9.7 ypc / 4 TD (.019) Jake Smith: 58 snaps. 13 catches (.224) / 150 yards (2.586) / 11.5 ypc (but muh explosive plays) / 4TD (.069) Lil'Jordan Humphrey: 846 snaps. 86 catches (.102) / 1176 yards (1.390) / 13.7 ypc / 9 TD (.011) Of course this isn't to say Smith is better than either DevDuv or LJH, but the dude is already producing at an elite level.
  21. I just want to point out that Jake Smith is by far our most productive receiver on a per snap basis. Catches, yards, TDs, any metric you want to use. Plus Herman's offenses always have great production from slot players. I don't see any reason to question his ability to replace Duvernay next year.
  22. I want to be in on page 1 of the Chris Brown fan club. He's a top 5 player of the first four weeks. He can play any Safety or LB spot in our scheme at a high level.
