  1. Haha you put $ instead of S that's really clever
  2. Everybody knows this was a dumb post, but I like how you made it after that ESPN blurb on the Brock bros that had a quote from Blake saying exactly why they're visiting so many schools and that there's even a quote about how the kids may not want to be taking so many visits.
  3. I have a hard time calling any of them whiffs since I'd define that as recruitments like where the staff did something negative to mess it up. But I'd say that all but Richardson are him just getting out-recruited. That's not to say he recruited those guys poorly. He could have done well, but someone else did better. Like I said I think Naivar is a good coach and recruiter--I believe he was Broughton's area recruiter--but I also think he may have been overrated after 2018. But obviously I want to wait and see how these 2020 guys shake out.
  4. Kimber, Rogers, Lindberg, CTjr, etc. aren't guys that are worth really panicking over if they go elsewhere. However, if they all go elsewhere, it's reasonable to be concerned. I posted this 2 weeks ago. Since then, we officially lost Ransom and Rogers and we might lose a guy that I didn't even mention because he was considered a lock. In the 2019 and 2020 cycles Naivar is batting a combined .250 on guys we heavily pursued. (missed on Cine, Williams, Richardson, Catalon, Ransom, Washington; landed Adimora, Owens). Plus the two guys he landed were looking at Boise State and Baylor. Not exactly highly contested recruitments. Now he's stepping up to the plate for Alford, CTjr, and Thompson. Honestly though it doesn't matter how many guys you miss as long as you land some of them. If Naivar goes 2/3 then he's fine. I don't want to put the cart ahead of the horse here because I still think we land CTjr--it just makes way too much sense--but I also don't get why there was an entire page crucifying satya for voicing concerns. Actually I do get it. Dallas and negative recruiting aren't really issues in my mind, but the fact he's a bit concerned is fine.
  5. Orlando's ability to quickly install his defenses at all his stops is a good point I hadn't considered. 2017's defense was elite but had a tendency to gave up some big plays. We don't have the same talent at LB as that defense, so our ceiling is lower, but it's definitely still a positive sign. Lately I've been starting to think that Coburn might be the most important non-Sam player on the team next year. If he steps up and starts to command consistent double teams, I think that gives Orlando more freedom to play around with personnel. Put another way: I think Coburn could be the key to having a defense with Overshown/Brown on the field rather than Dele. I'm interested to hear if others agree/disagree.
  6. UH gave up 70 to Army. They'll need a lot more than 40. I'm not counting on them to even keep it close.
  7. Wow, his dad needs to back off. Let the kid go where he wants. I hate when parents get involved in the kids recruitment, unless their last name starts with B or R. Otherwise let the kid make their own choice.
  8. It’ll be interesting to see if we get back in with Eaton. IIRC we were pretty strong favorites back when we offered
  9. The one thing I thought was missing from Bowman's hudl was tackling, but he mentioned in an interview with Suchomel that he's moving from corner to safety this season and he's glad he'll be able to play downhill more often and improve his tackling. I love it when kids have an understanding of things they need to improve on. Also his hudl song choice was a classic so I'm giving him bonus points for that.
  10. The real newest narrative is that they’re scheduling FCS schools in order to supposed lower tier football. They make us sound like charity. Whatever would the FCS schools do without the generous and altruistic Texas A&M Aggies?
  11. I knew their run game was bad, I just didn’t realize it was that bad. Also it’s kinda sad that ours improved so much last year and still ranked behind theirs. Part of that was the use of the QB run in short downs and our general ball control style, but still. As for rankings, in my mind JT Daniels wasn’t a good QB on paper. Even though he was highly ranked, a reclassified true freshman screams team weakness. That’s where I’m coming from.
  12. “The Trojans were a better team in paper than LSU” is the part that I disagree with pretty staunchly. As for rushing offenses, they’re pretty similar so an argument could be made there. I looked up their rankings and LSU was a lot worse than I thought. LSU ranked 81st last year in rushing S&P+. USC was 78. We were 98 though so that’s depressing. I know LSU signed two really good backs last year that are supposed to be instant upgrades at the position.
  13. Sorry, must’ve missed it among all the other important discussions /s
  14. Looks like a DT from Willie Tyler's JUCO visited yesterday
  15. His mom told OB they want to decide soon, before his fall practices start. Maybe this weekend.
  16. This might be common knowledge at this point, but the Super Bowl was a perfect example of the impact that this can have. The Pats D waited until the McVay's mic in Goff's helmet cut off with 15 seconds left on the play clock to get set in their defense. Without McVay to help him, Goff was pretty bad and the Rams offense put up 3 points.
  17. I'm sorry but this USC example is awful. Specifically the part about saying they were a better team on paper than LSU. USC sucked last year. It's like comparing our 2016 team to a NY6 bowl winner that year. Talent "on paper" doesn't matter. As Texas fans we should know that better than anybody. Discussion of the upcoming season should be based around the skill levels of the players in 2019, not how they were rated as freshmen. And it's pretty obvious that LSU in 2019 will be significantly better than USC in 2018. Comparing them in that way is pretty disingenuous and I think you know that. I think using USC as a data point of how our defense performs against pro-style offenses is fine, and the rushing yardage is an interesting point. My opinion is that our defense can play the run well, but they don't always do so. USC, UGA, OU2 were elite run defense performances, but the defense didn't perform like that consistently. Maybe they will against LSU, but I don't think that's a given. Coburn could really raise the ceiling of our defense, but replacing Omenihu is going to be tough and Mac is a total question mark. Wheeler was bad but at least we knew he could be ok against USC, UGA, LSU, etc. We can't say that about Adeoye or whoever else wins the spot yet.
  18. This might be one of my favorite takes I've seen on Surly
  19. Ingram/Whittington is a much better depth chart for a JUCO than most other major programs. OU got Stevenson despite Brooks/Sermon being firmly entrenched as starters and being much more productive than Ingram/Whitt. Plus Marcus Majors in the same class and another 4* sophomore. Of course OU recruits skill position guys much more effectively than Drayton and has shown they can have multiple 1k rushers in a season, but my point is just that it can be done. As much as we love Ingram/Whitt, a RB room that consists of 2 guys with 700 total yards between them and no current RBs committed is a better opportunity for JUCOs than most other major programs.
  20. What's the JUCO RB outlook like this year? There's only one ranked on 247 and it's a 3* to Memphis. JUCOs seem to pop up late in the cycle so maybe that's a route we can explore. Maybe someone like Rhamondre Stevenson will pop up. I'd be kind of ok with Jordan/Richardson and a high floor JUCO. It'd be dissappointing but it wouldn't
  21. Hell no. What the fuck is going on in this page? Evans is a top 10 player in the country. He'd be our best RB in like a decade the second he got on campus. Do y'all really think our locker room and coaching staff are so fragile that Evans would hurt us? But he'd be fine anywhere else?
