  1. Assuming Bijan is in, I'd take that.
  2. Playing a 250lb BLB at rover--a position that requires sideline-to-sideline speed and the ability to navigate through traffic and attack holes created by the DL/Mac--sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. It didn't work last year but hey I guess we can run it back. If you meant to put him at Mac (kind of seems that way if you're listing him with Overshown), then that's something I've though about too. Byron Vaughns as well--at least he ran track in HS. But it takes an elite talent like Malik to be able to switch between ILB/OLB so I think it's unfair to expect that out of guys. Ossai didn't come off the field against UGA because they run a pro style offense. That's the exception, not the norm in the Big 12. He'll play most/all snaps against LSU and maybe WVU/KU/Tech. The rest of the season it'll depend on matchups and situations. Also the other wildcard I forgot to mention is Jacoby Jones. A lineup of Jones/Coburn/Roach probably has the highest ceiling at DL next year. But he and Coburn shouldn't be counted on as impact players next year.
  3. I agree with your second and third paragraphs. I generally agree with the first, that we'll be ok on the line. Graham/Wilbon/Roach is a fine but uninspiring lineup (kind of depends on what you expect from Roach which I don't want to get in to again). Ossai is a difference maker as a pass rusher, but we don't know how much he'll actually be on the field. It's unfortunate that he plays what is probably the least important position on the team. He'll likely come off in dime packages that aren't pass heavy situations. In 3rd and long or when we're protecting a lead I expect we'll see some lineups that move Roach to DT and put Ossai at DE. I don't know if he can hold up there in standard downs though. The new hires at WVU/KU/Tech might make the BLB position more relevant but for now it's all just a big question mark.
  4. Lotta hubris in the last page The defense was frustrating to watch last year and I think that's clouding some people's judgment. Those frustrating moments stand out and people just assume we can fix those problems while ignoring the stuff the defense did right. Boyd was boom or bust (mostly bust) in coverage, but he was really good against the run and playing screen passes. People (myself included) are optimistic about Cook as a coverage corner, but how will he do on the couple of sweeps and screens he'll face each game? Omenihu wasn't just a great player, he was also really clutch. If we end up in a Baylor situation next year, who do we trust to get pressure and force a bad throw on the final down? Just because a bunch of these new guys were highly ranked recruits doesn't mean anything. Even in great recruiting classes, only half of a class (usually less) will become quality starters. The numbers game is not on our side here. At least a couple of the guys y'all are mentioning are going to disappoint. That's the nature of sports and being human. It think it's safe to expect improvement at a couple of spots (Hager, BLB, S), but improvement at any other positions shouldn't be taken for granted. The take that Shark/Ossai is better than Wheeler/Johnson is the perfect example of a desperate attempt to justify an end result. Ossai doesn't even play ILB. It's a nonsense comparison. It's like saying CB will be better because of Overshown. Just not an honest evaluation of the situation. I feel like a lot of fans are falling victim to confirmation bias in regards to their belief that the defense will improve. Plus, the elephant in the room is that several our defense's poor performances were not the players' faults. We had a couple poor game plans and the staff put players in bad positions several times as well. Roach, Hager, and Locke all played out of position (which admittedly was out of necessity). Now we've got McCulloch at rover and Foster at NB. Again it's kind of necessary, but while both players are talented, I think it's fair to question whether those are their best positions. Great players might not have great performances if they are playing a position they're not best suited for. Plus, in both 2017 and 2018, it took TO and the staff several games to figure out our best lineups and maximize our talent. That was working with upperclassmen that had game tape to review. Now we have a lot of sophomores, several of which haven't even played meaningful D1 snaps. I hate how dismissive some people are being about our defensive concerns. I think we should expect growing pains next year. I'm guessing the defense will probably be about the same as this year. A couple of really good performances, a couple really bad performances.
  5. Why would a reporter even write that? If you think something is 99% not true then you're just purposely spreading misinformation.
  6. Exactly. Herman, being the nice guy he is, was yelling at Gundy and not his players. That's what Gundy asked for. He's a man, he's 40.
  7. 247 says McClellan has already taken his OU OV. That makes this a lot more interesting to me.
  8. In case it's behind a paywall. Spiegelman is the Texas and Louisiana regional guy.
  9. For the OU game specifically, we had several drives in the 4th that were killed by penalties. Off the top of my head I believe it was 3 drives in a row that had long penalties tacked on, at least one of which directly negated a first down. It's hard to score or even just kill clock when that happens. Despite the defensive shortcomings, the offense made strides at protecting leads last year (see TCU, ISU, USC). Not to say it was great at it, but it was better. As our run game goes from bad (2017) -> average (2018) -> hopefully good (2019), we should be able to close out games more effectively.
  10. The point is that we've gone from saying that all three were locks at various points during their recruitments to saying 'let's wait and see what happens, they're not gone yet' for our all of our top DL targets. Even if we manage to land 1 or 2 of them it's pretty clear that a certain position coach sucks at half of his job
  11. Princely told Suchomel tonight that A&M is his leader. We're his #2 with OU/LSU after that. He's taking an UOV for the pool party and officials in the fall.
  12. Is this going to be a thing moving forward? Asking every Texas player that chooses another school to say why they didn't choose us? Whatever gets clicks I guess
  13. Is he the one that has a cousin in the northeast that plays CB? Or was that Latrell Neville?
  14. I just saw that Davis is 6'. He plays much taller than that. Watching his film I was thinking X but his height explains why people are putting him at Z.
  15. Huh, guess that answer's the question from the other day
  16. Ah yeah my bad
  17. Am I crazy or does it say edited in the bottom left and no longer say bad hands in the post? https://imgur.com/S0l8RjR
  18. You said bad hands before editing your comment after getting called on it
  19. Lol that last one is on Sam. Sure, LJH and Collin make that catch but it should be pretty obvious that they are very different players than Duvernay and balls should be thrown to them differently. It would have been a spectacular catch if he had made it. Not making a spectacular catch ≠ bad hands.
  20. In the McGowan reddit thread there was some discussion about who OU's remaining silents were. People seem to think 2 of the 5 were McGowan and Major Burns, who then committed to LSU. That leaves 3 remaining. They think one of them is a defensive player, maybe Antonio Doyle.
  21. Yeah but Duvernay won the catch challenge in one of Collin Johnson's vlogs. Checkmate, katfid. On a serious note, it doesn't suprise me that Duvernay had a couple drops over the course of 14 games. That doesn't qualify him as having bad hands though. Especially considering his position means a lot of his opportunities are 25+ yards down field. A couple other guys (like LJH) had bigger drop issues than Dev Duv but I wouldn't say anybody on the team had bad hands. E: Actually I want to change the last sentence. None of the guys that were consistently in the rotation last year had bad hands.
  22. Duvernay bad hands? Didn't he finish the year with 0 drops? I do agree on the overthrow part. Sam owes him like 300 yards and 3 TDs.
  23. JJ Hester again told Suchomel that we're his leader. He said he's also considering UGA and Michigan.
  24. He told Rivals about a week ago that SMU and Texas were his top schools. I don't think I can take SMU seriously for top recruits though, even when they have connections like with Stone.
