  1. Is this Sam with a sock account? User name does not check out
  2. track? I thought this was the football recruiting thread
  3. agree... there was a story I heard one time about a guy name Chris, his mother and a limo...
  4. could be wrong. Unless I misunderstood it, that is what Dan Patrick said in his interview with Simms in the link above
  5. Being in the NFL for 9 years probably put the college fan base experience in perspective... but it doesnt excuse it whether it was Simms or Gilbert
  6. Agree... but it doesnt matter with how the player was treated. I put a lot of that on MB and Phil Simms. Phil could have squashed most of the bad perceptions by managing the situation better. Austin is not miami, NY or Tennessee. Showing up in a limo was a bad move and put a bad taste in people's mouths and then rumors of guarantees to play. I think this not only hurt Chris but also fan perceptions with GG later on.
  7. He's a Dixie Chicken recruit. quite the fatty I hear
  8. The Longhorn fanbase was quite deplorable at the time. It was embarrassing. Simms was a good young man and didnt deserve how he was treated
  9. I know that. But if he wants to play in the NFL, he needs to work on his skill set. He can try to be then next Goodwin but the odds are against it. Think of all the football players that ran track and you will find a long list of gridiron disappointments until they gave up track.
  10. yep... and, that's why I wont feel for him when he doesnt play as I havent every year.
  11. 1) the roster limit is rolling. It can rise throughout the year. It only needs to be 85 in the beginning of Sept. 2) There is no "rigid" 25 scholarship limit. Teams can go past 25 to get to 85. It was meant to curb the oversigning problem (signing players beyond the 85 limit every year and weeding them out by Sept)
  12. I think he needs to not run track this year and concentrate on his football skill set. It's very hard to compete in another sport during spring and summer and then expect compete against equal or better talent in Sept. Running fast doesnt mean squat unless you have the ball in your hands or you end up tackling someone
  13. yep. Actual class evaluation shouldnt be in February, it should be in Sept to see which recruits qualify and make it on the roster.
  14. The game itself was in transition in the 70s and 80s. The OL on option teams tended to much lighter than power or passing teams. OL in a wishbone offense were expected to block, scrape and run to the third level if possible. In the 1977 game against ND, ND looked like an NFL roster compared to the size of the UT linemen.... or at least that's what I thought at the time.
  15. Is that written in french or californian or something?
  16. It's hard to compare generations for several obvious reasons. When I was a kid, Jim Brown was the Earl Campbell or Ricky Williams of his day. Personally, I think Earl had the greatest combo of power, speed and athleticism that I've seen in one back in my lifetime. I remember Lam Jones running track in high school and the state finals of the mile relay ('76?) is one of the greatest high school events I've ever seen. Then a couple of years later, the football team was having 100 yd races at the stadium, only one person beat Earl and that was Lam Jones - and it wasnt by much - but to see that big body stay with a world class sprinter was amazing, IMO
  17. yeah, In one of my Longhorn books there's a story of one of Darrell Royal's coaches (IIRC, it was Mike Campbell) sitting with Earl in a motel room. They wanted to hide Earl from that cheatin' scumbag switzer until signing day. LOL There is absolutely no tellin' what all switzer would have offered Earl to go to okiehoma.
  18. agree. My top three of all time are Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, and Bo Jackson.
  19. agree. If I had to pic a national newspaper it would probably be the WSJ or Business News Daily. I get more news online and in my inbox than I can possibly read every day
  20. Due to military disabilities and being on the computer WAY too much, I ballooned up to 260 lbs. I then had what the doctors said was a massive heart attack and had two stints put in. I didnt think my diet was that bad but something needed to change. I made several major changes to my diet: 1) I cut night shade plants including beans out of my diet almost completely, however, having fries once a week at a restaurant isnt going to hurt much. This sucks because I really like mexican/TXmex food. LOL I also love roasted peanuts in a shell - gone 2) Cut out almost all white plants and grains, white flour from grains, white rice, etc. 3) I'm trying to cut out ALL products that have soy in it and, believe it or not, that is hard to do; it's in virtually everything that is packaged. 4) Went out and bought quite a few different healthy drink alternatives such as: super greens, super beats, Atkins protein shakes that I cut w/almond milk, etc. I also substituted Almond milk for cow milk unless it is raw milk but I dont have the opportunity to get raw milk on a regular basis. I found that as long as I have something with flavor, I dont crave diet Dr Pepper (the aspartame gives me a headache anyway). I'm also finding that these drinks are ways to add nutrients that men over age 35 should supplement such as creatine Anyway, my goal is to get down to 200 lbs and this morning I weighed in at 228 and I'm not hungry one bit
