  1. Saw some poachers on your video! You need a gun mount on your drone to scare 'em away. LOL
  2. It may depend on your listening preference. In my 2007 2500 PU, I listen to the radio about 80 or 90% of the time and most of that is listening to AM radio. That being the case, when I changed out the radio a few years ago, I chose a pioneer since they still were putting out radios with the best tuners for the price. I also put in several relays to bypass automatic switches such as keeping the video working when in drive or reverse.
  3. I've had the worse luck with Dell computers for the last 18 years and have given up on Dell. At least two HP laptops were lemons. I got the best deal on an ASUS FX550I and I like it a lot. It also fits right in with my other ASUS, which is a tablet with attached bluetooth keyboard (ASUS T100CHI)
  4. "the cleaning lady" is what I use to call my ex-wife as well (and I emphasize EX-)
  5. For anyone interested, here is a decent article comparing Hulu, Youtubetv, sling, Vue and Directv. It's not a benchmark comparison but a good overview Hulu Live vs. YouTube TV vs. Sling vs. Vue vs. DirecTV Now: Face-Off! https://www.tomsguide.com/us/youtube-tv-vs-cable-tv-replacements,news-24578.html
  6. What do you think of the Amazon Fire DVR? worth it? You will save enough to pay for everything in about 2 or 3 months. I have saved so much money in the last 11 years cutting the cord that I enjoy testing a few products every year.
  7. Yeah, I loaded the IPTV on both the FireStick and Firebox. Actually, come to think of it, I loaded a media player on Fire stick&box and then linked the player to the IPTV service with my login info. Once it is set up, it works great. I only searched and saved a few channels from the IPTV within the player because that is all I needed: LHN, ESPN channels, Fox channels such as FOX News, and FOX sports channels, etc. $5 a month t is well worth it to me but I could see wifey and kiddies not liking the convenience of traditional point and click tv, OTOH, the technology is moving this direction anyway. There are literally hundreds of sports channels on kodi add-on channels. You would have to go through those and save the ones you like or add more. Edited to add: like several people have said, there several reasons to cut the cord but convenience is generally not one of them. In the free market, convenience comes at a premium... and it should.
  8. Oh, I forgot to add.... Another reason I boxed up the Tivo was that I wanted it to stream/record to other TVs. At the time, each Tivo mini vox (?) required an additional service charge. That pissed me off and I boxed up the whole thing and bought a Channel Master DVR+.
  9. Yea the benefit of the ota/apps with the roamio is no monthly subscription like you need with the bolt I'll try it again but I couldnt get it to pull any channels without a subscription. It's worth the effort because the Tivo channel menu and recording is still top notch compared to others. what I dont like about Tivo and Channel Master is that both use recording coding (proprietary?) that is not readable by other devices. It would be nice to record stuff, like a game, and then take the hard drive into my office and play it while I'm working.
  10. You can get different skins/looks for fire/stick. I loaded my with kodi and then changed its default skin (look). You just need to find something you will like. There are all kinds of advice sites on the WWW
  11. I've had a Channel Master DVR+. It's been real good and its channel selection menu is comparable to Tivo. I recommend to NOT buy the one with an internal 1TB drive. I bought the CM DVR+ with the smallest hard drive (thus, cheapest model) and plugged in an external HD to the CM DVR+ I forgot to add: If you decide to get a CM DVR+, be sure and get a package that included a wifi adapter if you dont already have one. I had a third party wifi adapter and it worked perfectly. The WIFI adapter allows for more menu information to automatically download and mesh with the generic OTA menu data
  12. I post this to show how cheap I am. LOL Spectrum ISP = $65/mth including taxes for 100mb Boost cell phone - $30/mth w/unlimited text & 2gb data (I think; whatever it is, I've never come close to going over) VPN = was $4/mth; paid $150 holiday special for lifetime service for 5 devices CRTV = $5/mth ... love it. Watch it on ROKU as much as anything. IPTV = ~ $5/mth (live cable channels such as FOX News and all the ESPN channels including LHN for baseball) I even run the IPTV on my Firebox - nice With many OTA channels (50+), ROKU, Firebox (KODI), & IPTV, I have more entertainment options than I can possibly watch. The funny thing is, with all these options, I usually end up just watching a few old shows on the classic channels on OTA tv haha
  13. Kodi on FireStick will often be a little slow and sometimes buffer. I use FireStick in my office, along with my ROKU1, where it doesnt matter very much. Kodi on FireBox, with better processing, is much, MUCH better.
  14. $175 for one entertainment option hardly seems worth it. If you have no other options, you might IPTV services. I used Players Club IPTV and got all the sports channels I needed including LHN for $5 a month. Also, if you use a variable IP service (VPN) along with an IPTV service, it could easily show you being outside of Texas. I can pick which cities I want my VPN server to connect.
  15. You can attach a DVR to ROKU? Is that new for a ROKU4? I've had ROKU1 since the beginning of ROKU and I use it in my office (still works great), ROKU2 in the living room and a ROKU3 in the bedroom. It was understood a long time ago that the ROKU owners were not going to get back into the DVR business after previously owning ReplayTV (I dont think it is viable any longer). I havent tried it but the ROKU2 does have a yellow composite out video port on it; theoretically, it should be able to out composite video for recording.
  16. I have a Tivo Roamio boxed up out in the garage doing nothing. Are you able to get the Roamio to pull in channels without a subscription? Wasnt able to so when I went cold turkey, I boxed it up.
  17. If you are close to the towers, then it really doesnt matter very much. If you are far away like I am, then two rules apply: the bigger the better and the higher the better. I put a big antenna in my attic in a Killeen low spot and I get all the Austin channels to the south, all the Waco channels to the north, and sometimes the college station channels to the east (which I shouldnt be able to get with antenna pointing south. All in all, I get about 50 channels or more just with an antenna in the attic.
  18. I really like the ROKU3 remote with the headphone connection port - great for the bed room.
  19. Did that 11 years ago to TWC and LOVED every minute of it. I still use TWC/Spectrum internet service since they are the best in my area but once Grande gets here, I will drop Spectrum in a heartbeat
  20. yeah, I'm not a computer geek but I dont think I've never seen a XP - 64 bit system. It seems like overkill for a XP OS
  21. hhhmmm Interesting. The CD doesnt say 64 bit and I would think if it were 64 bit, the label would say it... but I cant say for sure. The label does say XP Pro SP2 2002. I've only recently (last 5 yrs or so) gone to 64bit with my computers so I'm almost certain that I didnt have a 64 bit computer in the early to mid 2000s. Even this tower computer was Win7 32 bit up until I put Win 10 on it. And, I only changed to Win 10 because I found the Win 7-32 had too many unnecessary limitations such as RAM limited to 4gb (maybe 8, cant remember.) and no USB 3, IIRC, Win7-64 expanded RAM to 16gb but still no usb3 which was becoming a problem. I liked Win 7 but the limitations were becoming a problem. Once I went to Win10 I could expand capabilities to what the motherboard could put out - very nice and worth the change.
  22. I'm not an electrician so this is kind of talking out my butt. I could be wrong but I've done a lot of stuff like this my whole life - but, then again, my family has some redneck blood. LOL Several things to consider. If you use the correct gauge of wire AND it is insulated, generally it does not require a conduit (tube). If the wires are not insulted (free standing), then it's a good idea to have a conduit; not just for code but it makes individual wires easier to run, esp through the horizontal studs. the most important thing is whether the gauge of wire is sufficient for distance and amperage (there are charts for this). I dont think signal cables require any conduit (tube), however, it does make them easier to run if they have a gutter or tube to follow You mentioned running something to a "cable box". Yes, HDMI is better but, IMO, not so much so as to have to rewire everything and COAX cabling is still a very good signal carrier and much easier to work with. I cut the cord 11 years ago. I just put an antenna in the attic and spliced into the existing coax cabling in the attic. I just connect my tv devices to the coax in the wall just as before - looks clean and without wires dangling around.
  23. I have two cables that came in the mail this week that I plan on running through the attic this weekend: one is a 30' HDMI cable and the other is a 30" CRT cable. In my living room, I have a shelf close to the ceiling that makes a perfect place to hide electronics that burglars would have a hard time getting to even if they knew something was up there (unlikely). Knowing the distance may be an issue, the cables were very inexpensive and I thought it would be worth the try to see if they work - I think they will. I want to hide and centralize my Simplisafe security system base and my wireless security camera base. I have to run power to the shelf through the attic (not a problem) and run the cables from the shelf through the attic to my office where I can view the devices.
  24. I've done this TWICE in the same spot!. The first time, I thought I just missed the board. I fixed the ceiling and then did it again in the same spot.... but I KNOW I stepped on the board the second time. After checking it out, I found the 2x4 was not nailed on one end and it gave way each time I stepped on it. Boy, that pissed me off.
