  1. yep. Catalon's relationship started when Morris was at SMU. Broughton doesnt have that background with Morris
  2. EJ can troll the fan base MUCH better than Roach.
  3. yeah, I tried to go back and delete most of what I posted but this site locks you out after a short time. I posted way too much jibber-jabber in that post that nobody should care about.
  4. I dont know. Wife uses it. The security was I guess my email I received. It could be any number of things but, yeah, most likely email phishing.
  5. I've never had netflix... Q: does netflix lock you out after a certain amount of tries using the password? Q: Also, does netflix use a secondary code to verify the login?
  6. not at all. Who has time for that nonsense? I dont even go to hacking sites any more; it's just not interesting. BTW, I'm not a hacker but it was interesting to keep up on what was going on. Plenty of tech sites nowadays so no need to risk it any longer
  7. You might be surprised how few things you web search that requires an in-depth search and it's just as easy searching on something like duckduckgo that doesnt track your search history for whatever reason. It's not right or wrong but "convenience" explains and justifies a lot of stuff whether shopping, buying cars, functions and operations on the computer, etc etc. and people are willing to pay more for convenience - and nothing wrong with that. An extra step here or there with computer operations can save a LOT of problems but it's not AS convenient so they'd rather not... and I get it. I rebuilt my mother's computer a couple of times, my sister's computer, my daughters computer, on and on and on and with doing so I organized it so it would prevent 90% of the problems that led to the situation to begin with. Although it was an extra step or two, it's not convenient, they end up going back to their old habits and everything happens all over again in 6 mnths or a year; like clock work, you want convenience, you pay for it in one way or another. The biggest benefit for convenience is saving time... but if it doesnt save more time, is it really a convenience?
  8. nope, not bing either. 90% of the time duckduckgo. Then maybe 8% dogpile on a private browser, VPN, or TOR; then google only when I dont find what I need, which is rare
  9. why do you "have to go whole hog google"? I dont google practically anything, including web searches.
  10. haha couldnt have said it better
  11. yeah, looks nice but that's not a murphy bed. Takes up too much room for me
  12. When my youngest daughter moved out, I then had a bed room that I could use as a hobby room. I then bought a used murphy bed that I could stand up in the corner out of the way (between two book cases) and roll out (the headboard has 4 wheels on it so it can be rolled around while stood up) during the RARE times that someone wants to sleep over. I LOVE it and it is perfect for my needs! I dont have a tv in the hobby room so sometimes we roll the murphy bed into the living room so they can stay up and watch tv as well.
  13. I've had two HPs over the years but it may have been so long now that it might not be relevant. HP sucked me in with all kinds of external capabilities but they all ended up dying rather quickly... so what's the point of all that potential if the core components cant handle it. I dont even look at HPs any more and even their printers, which is what they were know best for in the '90s.
  14. Home or Pro? I think it depends. I dont think it matters for most people. I think both my tablet and laptop are home editions but my main computer (tower) is always pro edition. An easy search and you can compare the difference between the two. For me, there are a few things I like about the pro version: additional administrative functions; I also like remote desktop where I can remote connect the tablet and laptop to the main computer; I also like Bitlocker that encrypts a couple of drives, etc
  15. If that is the direction you have decided, then you can use this Manufacturer refurbished one with 1 yr warranty for $700 as a comparison: Dell XPS 13 9365 13.3 inch Notebook PC i7-7Y75 Intel Core i7 7th Gen. 16GB RAM 512GB SSD Windows 10 Pro
  16. Was a huge Dell guy for a long time because that is what the army used. The problem became after I retired and realized when my Dell crapped out, I couldnt just go turn it into IT guy and get a new one. I still have an old latitude that works and I use it to run legacy programs and keep my scanners hooked up to it. The last few years I've migrated towards ASUS products and have been very satisfied. It first started with my tower computer when I needed to replaced the motherboard and chose an ASUS mobo and loved it. When I upgraded a couple of years ago, I put another ASUS intel I7 mobo in it and love it even more. Overclocking is easy if necessary. I run around 5-10% above the 3.6gb speed baseline so around 4gb speed but could go much higher. At that point I also needed a new laptop so I got an ASUS FX550 and LOVE it for around $400 new on ebay. It still runs like new and perfect for working around the house or going to meetings. The laptop was still a little heavy and bulky to just grab and go in order to have something at the coffee shop/restaurant so I tested my luck again and I bought a 10" ASUS CHI100 - perfect. After a couple of years, it still runs great and tablet battery is still good for all day usage. It is screen activated so you can use the tablet by itself if you prefer. I dont like poking with my finger on the screen to type and prefer a keyboard and the CHI100 comes with a blue-tooth keyboard. With a $10 leather tablet cover that accepts the bluetooth keyboard and the tablet and covers the screen at the same time - perfect - and wa-la, a 10" laptop that is perfect for taking with me wherever I go. I will say, however, after a couple of years the bluetooth keyboard has been laggy lately, the battery may be going out, and I probably need to replace it. except for the old Dell laptop, they all run with windows 10. I've never owned an apple product and doubt I ever will. I've always thought they were over priced for what you get but that may just be me and my comfort zone.
  17. I have prescription sunglasses; several different types. The latest pair automatically shades and filters and they work ok walking around and in & out of stores but none of them work very well for driving. The TACFLIP glasses are great for driving; just flip the lens up to read something inside the car or the car dash whenever necessary.
  18. [edited: what I originally posted is really a different topic so I edited it] .
  19. That's actually a pretty good idea. The phone would need to be water proof: yes, it will end up in the toilet or the pool, or left out in the rain or in a back pack left out in the rain. It will also need to be ruggedized like an old flip phone to protect the screen. a flip phone with parental controls including email, internet, social media, text or whatnot should be turned on or off by the administrator (parents) and he default should be "off". And, ruggedizing the phone could come in different degrees of ruggedness. My grandsons have a tablet that looks like it was formed out of a bumper car - haha - and the little barbarians still broke the screen. I'm surprised no one has brought this up yet but one of the biggest benefits to a mongrel having a phone is geo-tracking. IMO, any ruggedized phone should have geo-tracking capability and limited accessible history data. And, this phone is for the wife but even more so for the kids LOL you millennials dont have to throw your frapachinos, it's just a joke
  20. You say something that is not true or you dont believe.... but I'm the one that is a "waste of time". smh typical millennial reasoning
  21. yep, most young guys today are not looking for advice, even if they ask for it, they want affirmations. This is how women act: even if they ask a direct question, they really dont want you to give them advice or even to necessarily fix it, they just want you to listen and affirm their feelings. I generally dont like sitcoms today because they are generally politically correct metro-sexual nonsense... but there was a sitcom (and I dont remember which one) where a guy in the show figured this out and every time he talked to a woman, he would periodically say "I hear what you are saying" or "how does that make you feel?" and the women in the show fell in love with him. hahaha it was hilarious because it had some truth to it. Age 16 sounds reasonable if it's controlled. If the car (that they are paying for) breaks down or involved in a wreck, then they can call somebody for help, and dont be surprised later if it wasnt you that they called. LOL
  22. ok. and? My elementary school was 4 miles away in Buda. We took the bus most of the time but we also road bike to school. We continued walking or riding bikes to Buda all summer.
  23. We didnt have "social communications" before cell phones? How did humanity survive beyond the stone age, much less the 20th century? I would say that these devices are actually retarding social communications. Holy cow! we had to wait ALL night before we could go to school so we could socially communicate face to face - oh! the humanity of it all! I would say most of the time NOT having immediate access for a response is probably the wisest. just admit it; you were badgered into getting a smart phone and now have to rationalize it. haha If you have to put parental protections on a flip phone (which I would imagine is possible nowadays with service provider), then you've got bigger issues. If you didnt have individual wireless phones but, instead, had a single home phone, you would not put up with that phone ringing constantly or being monopolized 24/7 for juvenile jibber-jabber Also, old phones are more rugged. I just noticed my new LG smart phone has a crack on the glass and I hardly ever use it! I dont wear it around the house or yard and I usually forget it when I jump in one of the vehicles. If a kid can prove they can take care of and be trusted with an old style phone for a few years, then I would think about getting them a smart phone but they would have to prove they can be trusted with one - DONT take their word for it.
