Probably true. But I don’t think OKC is giving up those assets for disgruntled or underperforming players. They will end up with a player or two that is currently being “built around”. IMO.

Sac ain’t trading Sabonis
Sabonis becomes a free agent at the end of next season. If they think they are going to lose him, I can see them taking a good offer. And OKC has the ability to put together some incredible offers.
Let's say OKC offered Sacramento Chet Holmgren, the 2024 Clippers unprotected pick and the 2025 Clippers/Houston/OKC pick. Sacramento would be insane to turn that down.
-
Siakam would be a great fit.
I would also see what it would take to get Sabonis. That dude is basically Jokic light. And then pair him with a cheaper rim protector (again, like Bamba). Although I guess they have Holmgren who will play that role.
-
I think it is incredibly unlikely, but if I was OKC, I would try to mend fences with Durant and bring him back for a redemption tour. It could also help rehab his image (though I'm sure he doesn't care much about that). Even though the Nets are doing well right now, I think their ownership would entertain some offers given the drama of the last few years.
Then I would use another chunk of the picks to go get DeAndre Ayton or Myles Turner.
For this year, they could throw a few picks at Orlando to bring in Bamba to help at center and take some of the load off of Chet Holmgren in the future. James Wiseman might also be an option.
This has the potential to be a title team:
- PG - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
- SG - Josh Giddey
- SF - Kevin Durant
- PF - Myles Turner
- C - Chet Holmgren

Back on OKC... here is a summary of their future draft picks for those who have lost count. Future picks are my reasonable best guess:
- 2023 - 9 - Best 1st rounder between OKC and Clippers
- 2023 - 37 - Best 2nd rounder between OKC and Wizards
- 2023 - 50 - Best 2nd rounder between Miami and Dallas
- 2024 - 5 - via Houston 1-4 protected
- 2024 - 8 - via Clippers unprotected
- 2024 - 13 - OKC own pick
- 2024 - 14 - via Utah 1-10 protected
- 2024 - 45 - Worst 2nd rounder between Charlotte and Minnesota
- 2025 - 6 - Best 1st rounder between Clippers, Houston (1-10 protected) and OKC
- 2025 - 20 - via Miami (1-14 protected)
- 2025 - 22 - via Philly (1-6 protected)
- 2025 - 48 - via Atlanta (31-40 protected)
- 2025 - 52 - Best 2nd rounder between Boston and Memphis
- 2025 - 54 - via Philly
- 2026 - 7 - via Houston 1-4 protected
- 2026 - 8 - via Clippers unprotected
- 2026 - 20 - OKC own pick
- 2026 - 45 - Best 2nd rounder between Dallas, Philly, OKC
- 2027 - 24 - OKC own pick
- 2027 - 25 - via Denver 1-5 protected
As it stands, OKC could have as many as 9-10 lottery picks over the next 5 years! Plus a ton of 2nd round picks.... 20 picks in total.
There is no way that they can even use all of these picks, so I would expect them to be active in bundling them up to go higher in the draft, or in trades to get some better players.

Houston is tanking so expertly that people can’t tell if they are trying to lose games or if they are just terrible.

Terry has to figure out a way to get Hunter going again. Hydrate him up, play him 35 minutes and tell the other players to get him 30+ points. Don’t care if he has to put up 40 shots to get there and we lose the game.
This team can possibly get to the Sweet 16 without him, but no way we go farther than that. He needs to play like the best player on the team - and he is capable of it.
-
That’s pretty funny

I've played some pickup games like the ACU game. Where the other team is shorter and less athletic, but cares WAY more than you. So they destroy you on the glass, out hustle you on defense and ultimately win. It is annoying.

Haven't read the thread, but have you considered a small grill like this? I think it looks more subtle and classy than the full sized grill.

Up until the end, I wanted Shaka to succeed at Texas. Early in his time here, we lost sooooo many close games by just a few points. And we were recruiting well. It seemed like we had a CHANCE to turn the corner.
The team that lost to Abilene was actually a really good, well constructed team. They finished 9th in the final AP poll, and were as high as 4th for multiple weeks. I thought it had the potential to make a deep run in the tourney - maybe even to the Final Four. I mean, we had TEN top-100 HS players on the roster. Matt Coleman was a boss. We had solid interior play with Jericho Sims, Kai Jones, Greg Brown, Hepa, Cunningham, Hamm, etc. And our guards were all experienced. It is just beyond comprehension that this team lost to ACU.

I don’t think the guy should get the job permanently either but this song and dance after every game depending on the result is tiring.
If this team has a GREAT year in the Big 12, they are still in line to lose like 5 more games. There are two active coaches in the Big 12 who have above .500 records in conference play the last 3 years.
I couldn't agree more. Even if Beard was still coaching the team, I wouldn't have gone into that game with confidence AT ALL.
-
I don’t take a ton from this game. ISU is good and it is hard to ever beat them at home. The Big 12 is a bloodbath.
Also, turns out K-State wasn’t a horrible loss and we were all freaking out after that one.

Guess his back got hurt one of the 10 times he undercut our players.

We might be the least physical team in the Big 12.

Somebody remind me how I can watch this without ESPN+. Via PM if necessary.

Meh. We could be 1-4 or 2-3 in conference.
In previous years, I have no doubt we would be 1-4 or 2-3. I'm mainly encouraged that we are still finding ways to win even though we aren't playing that great.
It will be interesting to see what happens the rest of the season. Every day this is more Terry's team. As the schedule keeps getting harder we will see what they are all made of. They won't be able to let teams like Kansas get out to big leads.
-
My closing lineup would be Hunter, Carr, Rice, Allen and then whoever is playing better between Disu and Bishop. If you have to go big then I would sit Allen before any of the guards. They all shoot 80%+ from the line and can all handle the ball at a pretty elite level.
-
I like this team much better than last year’s team. Rice is more clutch than anyone on that team. Carr is playing better off the ball. Disu is better. The freshmen are supremely athletic and fun to watch. The team is finding ways to win.
Those damn Shaka teams would have like 10 losses by <5 points. This team is winning those games.
Hunter is the difference in the team being good or being special. I think he will pull it together.

Most of the key players in this team are seniors. This is a win or bust season and wanting to keep the team intact is not a reason to keep Terry. The team isn't going to be intact.
Beard was building a culture where we could essentially reload every year. With him not around to do the reloading the next couple years might be rough, especially if we screw up this hire. Can Terry do that, even if he cuts down the nets in April?
I'm just spit-balling here, but I think Terry might be able to leverage winning a National Title into some decent recruits and transfers. Of course, he isn't going to win a title, so it is moot.

Or they could have... you know... used one of their two remaining timeouts where they could have designed a play to put the ball in LeBron's hands.

For me offering Chet Holmgren in any deal is the equivalent of multiple unprotected firsts. He was just the #2 overall player. Honestly I don’t think I would trade him straight up for Gobert when you factor in age and salary.
Who knows what a pick becomes. Maybe a great player. Maybe a #22 throw away.
I agree generally that OKC should stay the course. But they are looking like they are ahead of schedule and they have way more picks than they can ever use. I would sprinkle a few picks to get some players NOW, while keeping the bulk of the war chest for the future.
