  1. Also let's look at some other big men at 22 (Bamba last year):

    • Mo Bamba - 8.0 PTS, 5.8 TRB, 1.4 BLK in 15.8 min
    • Rudy Gobert - 8.4 PTS, 9.5 TRB, 2.3 BLK in 26.3 min
    • Tyson Chandler - 8.0 PTS, 9.7 TRB, 1.8 BLK in 27.4 min
    • Ben Wallace - 3.1 PTS, 4.8 TRB, 1.1 BLK in 16.8 min (age 23)
    • Deandre Jordan - 7.1 PTS, 7.2 TRB, 1.8 BLK in 25.6 min
    • Chris Kaman - 9.1 PTS, 6.7 TRB, 1.1 BLK in 25.9 min
    • Marc Gasol - 11.9 PTS, 7.4 TRB, 1.1 BLK in 30.7 min (age 24)

Mo had comparable stats to all of these guys playing HALF the minutes.  Everyone is going to be shocked at his "development" this year, when the reality is that he just hasn't been getting enough minutes to show what he can do.

Don't be surprised when he leads the NBA in blocks in the next year or two.

  2. People are way too quick to call Bamba a bust.  Getting a great player at the #6 pick isn't actually very common.  If he ever makes an All-Star game, he will be one of only 3 players picked 6th in the draft to accomplish that feat in the last 20 years.

I still think he has a very good shot at landing on some All-Defense teams or possibly even earning DPoY.

    Here are other 6 picks:

    • 2019 Jarrett Culver – Minnesota - Meh so far
    • 2018 Mohamed Bamba – Orlando - Meh so far
    • 2017 Jonathan Isaac - Meh so far
    • 2016 Buddy Hield – New Orleans - Average starter on bad team
    • 2015 Willie Cauley-Stein – Sacramento - Career role player
    • 2014 Marcus Smart – Boston - 2x All-Defense. Solid contributor
    • 2013 Nerlens Noel – New Orleans - Career role player
    • 2012 Damian Lillard – Portland Trail - All NBA, Future HOF
    • 2011 Jan Vesely – Washington - Bust. Out of 3 years
    • 2010 Ekpe Udoh – Golden State - End of bench player
    • 2009 Jonny Flynn – Minnesota - Bust. Out of NBA in 3 years
    • 2008 Danilo Gallinari – New York - Solid starter for many years
    • 2007 Yi Jianlian – Milwaukee - Bust. Out of NBA in 5 years
    • 2006 Brandon Roy – Minnesota - All-NBA
    • 2005 Martell Webster – Portland - Career role player
    • 2004 Josh Childress – Atlanta - Career role player
    • 2003 Chris Kaman – L.A. Clippers - 1x All-Star, solid contributor
    • 2002 Dajuan Wagner – Cleveland - Bust. Out in 4 years
    • 2001 Shane Battier – Memphis - 2x All-Defense. Solid contributor
    • 2000 DerMarr Johnson – Atlanta - Career role player

  3. I'm curious what history will say about LeBron in future years.  I think he will likely be viewed similarly to Kareem.

By all metrics Kareem is one of the 3-4 best players of all time.  But... he just wasn't as popular as some of the other players we have had.  Magic was waaaaay more popular than Kareem, even though Kareem has the better resume.  Bird was also enormously popular.  They were both more exciting and had more personality.

For most of LeBron's career, he hasn't been the most popular player in the NBA.  Kobe had that title for the early part of LeBron's career.  Then Curry snatched it away. LeBron just seems to insist on himself.  He comes off as too calculating and manipulative.  And people will point to his roster meddling, "The Decision" and his need to assemble super teams.  All of this rubs people the wrong way.

Someone mentioned it earlier, and I agree that his longevity is his biggest positive.  This is also similar to Kareem.   Larry Bird only played 13 seasons due to starting late and dealing with injury.  With only 13 seasons, LeBron retires after his 2nd season back at Cleveland and finishes with 3 titles, same as Bird.  In that case he goes down as a top 10 player but not someone making a case to be the GOAT.

Maybe we should be using 6 year peak to better compare across the eras and not give modern players all the extra stats.

  5. Maybe this is covered above. If so, apologies.

How will season tickets work in the new arena?  Will existing season ticket holders (at the Erwin Center) get a chance to pick their new seats according to some process that has already been communicated?  I assume they will use the new stadium to extract more money out of season ticket holders in some fashion.

How bad did it hit you?  Did the vaccine help limit your sympoms?

It gradually progressed from feeling like allergies to light flu-like symptoms.  Then for a few days I was almost well, before it got worse again for a few more days.  Apparently this is pretty common.

I continued to work remotely the whole time. Never got a fever or really lost smell or taste.  Not too bad all things considered.  I would be quite surprised if the vaccine didn't help me at all.  But who knows.

  7. FWIW, I'm pretty sure I got Covid at the UT-Louisiana game.  My guess is it was the HUGE crowds trying to get to the upper deck, with 10K+ people breathing in the same air going up the escalators.  If I were constructing a way for 10K people to all breathe the exact same air, that might be it.  Like a Covid assembly line.

Fully vaxxed with Moderna back in March.  Nobody else in my family got it despite sleeping with my wife for several days and riding in the car with the whole family.  Initial at-home test was negative followed by positive test a few days later.

  8. Of course the Nets could win without Kyrie. Because if they traded Kyrie they would get something good in return.

The Nets could win a title with any of these lineups:

    • Damian Lillard + James Harden + Joe Harris + Kevin Durant + L. Aldridge
    • Ben Simmons + James Harden + Joe Harris + Kevin Durant + L. Aldridge
    • De'Aaron Fox + James Harden + Joe Harris + Kevin Durant + Tristan Thompson
    • Patty Mills + James Harden + Joe Harris + Kevin Durant + Nikoli Vucevic
    • James Harden + Joe Harris + TJ Warren + Kevin Durant + Myles Turner
    • James Harden + Paul George + Joe Harris + Kevin Durant + L. Aldridge
    • James Harden + Joe Harris + Brandon Ingram + Kevin Durant + L. Aldridge

Not that any of the above trades are strategic in any way, but the salaries fit.

  9. Makes me sad that someone on a Texas board wouldn’t know who Lee Travino is. State of Texas sports legend.  Dude is hysterical and probably the best golf hustler of all time.

He is 5’7 though so probably correct regarding his hoops skillz.

  10. Late to the party on the college rankings, but give me ASU over Texas.  Using various online rankings they have:

Barry Bonds - #3 MLB all time

*Phil Mickelson - #7 PGA all time

*James Harden - #32 NBA all time

Reggie Jackson - #38 MLB all time

    (vs)

*Kevin Durant - #13 NBA all time

Roger Clemons - #15 MLB all time

Earl Campbell - #58 NFL all time

*Jordan Spieth - #31 PGA all time

Ben Crenshaw - #39 PGA all time

    Rankings are subjective obviously.

  11. I appreciate this is a Texas Covid forum, but curious y’all’s thoughts on the numbers in Israel. They were the earliest and most thoroughly vaccinated nation by far and are now spiking big time.  Deaths have been relatively low but are now starting to pick up as well.  Makes me think we could be in for a very rough fall with kids going back to school.

  12. Full disclosure, I was also not high. Don't think it would have helped as I would have just gone to sleep.

Also full disclosure, I seem to be in the minority in my love for King Arthur Legend of the Sword.  And perhaps that was my problem. I had no idea what I was getting myself into with this movie. I thought I was going to be seeing something more like The Witcher and, you know, less boring.

  13. This movie is in the running for worst movie I have ever seen. So incredibly boring. Pointless slow scene after slow scene. And confusing on top of it all. I’m baffled by the IMDB rating. I think it is a case of people trolling others by rating it highly so they share the misery. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

  14. If Jrue Holiday had played his whole career for the Lakers he would be one of the most popular players in the NBA. He is really freaking good.

Lillard needs to quit pouting out there. Bringing the negative energy.
